  6. Would it be fair to say "It's my opinion that most JW sets are being purchased by resellers?" Because they are. And no, I don't have "hard" evidence, but Timmy's Grandma doesn't make Lego go "poof" from online retailers in a matter of minutes at random hours of the day. That takes a coordinated effort from dedicated people who see $$$. If there's going to be a bubble, resellers are adding the air. I'd like to think Lego is too big for the bubble, and across the board, I think it is. Certain sets, lines, etc. will experience micro bubbles though--and this line is one. RE was selling for over $100 on Amazon not too long ago. Yesterday, the buy box was around $85. I'm not arguing profit margin of $5, but the margin has "popped" some. And yes, I know how long it is until Christmas. Just food for thought. "Be willing to be different." - Warren Buffett

  7. I made an announcement last week that you might not have seen that I have to basically completely rewrite everything based on changes in the data we get, so it's a work in progress. It will be straightened out over the next day or two. I have to change a ton of stuff. I do not know what you mean by the same for the Classified what "do not see any surplus anymore" means. It's a crap load of work I need to do and do it in stages. The new template for the price guide is a work in progress too that I was basically forced to make live early before getting it the way I want. Google has been barking at me for weeks because those other pages are not mobile friendly at all, etc, etc. Just give me a few more days to try and catch up. I wish I had all day to work on it, but now I need to switch gears and go to the office and work on totally different garbage.

  8. Hey Folks! So as you all know Dimensions came out with the Portal 2 level pack. I have long been a huge Portal fan and love the games. The writing/humour/gameplay is beyond anything else I've played. There was an Ideas project that ended up not making it into a final product: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/18258 which i was really rooting for. So when the Dimensions set came out i decided i would try to replicate this design so i could properly display the awesome Chell minifig. I also intend to make a GlaDOS that will hang in the top of a detolf (tops of detolfs have a hole) without all the support brackets used in the Ideas design. Below is the progress I've made so far and i will continue to update as i make more progress and when it's all finished and displayed. I am awaiting parts to round it out a bit plus the parts for GlaDOS, and have taken a few creative liberties from the original Ideas set. There are no instructions for this available (that i saw) so it's all done by eye and tedious part counting. I have not made it modular like the original Ideas design intended, and the back side is abnormally ugly right now that i may eventually cover up with plates. Problems I've encountered (aside from the old: "Dammit, i swore i ordered enough of these pieces!"): - The sentry turret from the Dimensions set is way too big, i'll need to make a few micro ones which i have yet to get parts for. - Getting customs stickers to fit on LEGO bricks is hard (i went with stickers instead of brickbuilding the chamber sign). - Couldn't find a "swamp" like colour to simulate the gross water found in test chambers. - Not sure how to come at making the portals themselves, i may just not include them. - GlaDOS is a very odd design, I've gone with a different one than the Ideas design and the parts are on the way. - Not sure how to connect the floor pieces with the 2 walls, however i may not even need to for display purposes. A bit of the modular nature of the set. However nowhere near as modular as the designer's model. The back needs some serious work haha, plates of all sizes and colours! but they were just from my personal stash until i figured out what i needed. And finally this is the top of the walls that i am waiting for tiles pieces to arrive to cover up the Technic bits, and a few more of the Technic squares to replace some basic bricks on the right side to make it more flush. Updates will come as i get more pieces in the mail Thanks for looking!

  11. I just finished an interesting interview with LEGO Artist Paul Wellington, who is probably best known for his large "Brickville" and "Brick City" microscale scenes. I was more interested in his intricate small-scale LEGO models of real buildings like the National Congress of Brazil (as featured in my book The LEGO Architect), and his most recent microscale model of Unity Temple by architect Frank Lloyd Wright.NATIONAL CONGRESS OF BRAZILBrasilia, Brazil, 1964, Oscar Niemeyer.LEGO Model by Paul Wellington."The scale of the National Congress of Brazil [LEGO] model is solely based on the sides of the towers, which use 1×8 tiles. I wanted to maximize the number of windows (trans-light blue plates) therefore the tiles could only be connected in one place."UNITY TEMPLEOak Park, Illinois, 1908, Frank Lloyd Wright.LEGO Model by Paul Wellington."Unity Temple was conceived by utilizing 2×2 medium stone gray bricks as the corners of the building. Next I imagined creating the columns out of 1×1 bricks with handles. Everything after that essentially fell into place."I asked Paul to tell me how he works within the limited selection of LEGO Elements. He explained: "For the most part I don’t have a problem with the selection of LEGO, just deciding what to build. I like to come up with new uses for pieces, as I rather focus on what LEGO does have rather than don’t. Some of my favorite and most commonly used pieces include headlight bricks, cheese slopes (1x1x2/3 slopes) and brackets. Using just these three parts alone I can create numerous designs from LEGO." Paul's dream elements include: 1×1 Grille Tile, 1×1 Plate with door rail, Wedge Tiles, 1×1 Brick with 2 Adjacent Knobs, and the 1×5 Brick (not pictured).I also asked Paul which new elements he most wishes would be added to the LEGO System. He had a nice list of ideas, which I drew out to share here.Learn more about Paul, how he uses 3D Modeling software to make amazing rendered images of his models, his Brickville / Brick City projects and more by reading the whole interview at:http://brickarchitect.com/2015/paul-wellington/Sincerely,---Tom

  18. Understood. I just think the number of "investors only" on this site would suprise you. There seem to be a large percentage here who care nothing for lego bricks as toys and view them strictly as a commodity. I could be wrong but those types of members are the most vocal in the forums so that is what I am basing this comment of off.

  19. How in the world could you know that percentage, out of curiosity?

  21. Let's just put this out there... You can kiss it. You are one of the biggest problems on this site as you argue with everyone and backtrack on statement after statement. People here are fed up with you and your bull spit so if you don't like it, you get can get lost. Yes I said that. No I don't like you. I try to be patient but you are being an a**hole to mods and especially to other members. If you want we can arrange for your posts to go through an approval process. Despite what you think this isn't a democracy and Jeff and Ed ask us (the mall cops) to keep up with the threads and right the ship from time to time. If it was up to me if have banned your ass a long time ago for the way you "speak" to everyone here.

  22. Hey fellow Brickpickers! I'm a huge fan of the "Building LEGO" part of this forum and topics I frequently visit and stay up to date to are the MOC Highlights, Rebuilding the Classics, etc. As for me I am still more of a humble builder but ever since I restarted this hobby I felt this urge to create something on my own or modify LEGO Sets. What this forum always lacked (for me at least) has been a thread where people share their own creations and modifications. Until now these things ended up in the topic "What did you build today" or in other random threads. I'd like to invite you all to share your humble, awesome, small, big, crazy, etc. creations and modifications :-) I'll start with something - rather humble if I compare it to all these madly awesome MOCs I've seen - that I have build recently. This is my take on "Toxikita's Toxic Meltdown" (http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/70163_Toxikita's_Toxic_Meltdown). At first I wanted to build a lab for a zombie scene with some star wars minifigs, but I ended up with this ;-) (I guess I could still just put some star wars minifigs in there ^.^). Hope you like it and share your own creations soon! This is a general overview of the built. As you can see I tried to put some lab stuff into it and it is made up of two sections. One for regular research and another one for more dangerous research projects. Normally these two sections would be safely devided but somebody broke the glass and opend the door... Toxikita and her henchmen met some resistance when they forced their way into the facililty. Now they can do as they please while they keep the researchers and guards under control. Some detail of the lab equpiment:

  27. It typically takes quite a while. Months even. ESB, Sydney Opera House, Farnsworth House and Fallingwater lingered for MONTHS even after the US site showed them as retired in the last wave. Heck, people are still finding Rockefeller Center, Guggenheim, and others in the wild. So until they're out of stock in the US online sites, people probably won't even raise an eyebrow.

  29. Where did you fidn that picture? Awesome minifigs, although I don't like the slimerversion and I'm not sure about Janine... she is the version from the first movie but her hairpiece looks odd and only looking at the picture in large allowed me to see that it's her and not some random guy. Well I hope you're wrong because I still hold some of them that I bought post EOL ;-) I guess there'll always be collectors for the original modulars though. But that has been my exact thought when I heard about the GBHQ for the first time. They look different enough though.

  34. I too think PS is on its way out. Currently it's back in stock with an order limit of 2 (while PC, PR and DO normally have an order limit of 5). Could well be the last production run to keep it around till end of the year and then finally retire. The next candidate to retire in my opinion is definitely the PC. It is the least favoured modular, after Market Street. See the poll here: http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/822-modulars-general-conversation/?page=1 It's a corner building which is a function the Brick Bank can take over after PC retires. And it's the cheapest Advanced Modular building while the trend for these buildings is an upwards price movement. But I don't expect PC to retire before October/November 2016.

  38. I hope that this set will be included in Black Friday discount list of lego store, as was last year - therefore I am not buying it during 2xVIP points and waiting for better discounts. This set is extremly overpriced and slow seller, so for me is big candidate for black friday sales...

  40. did you really compare Greg to Paul Blart? He was a pretty active member before a mod and speaks pretty much the same. He just calls it out the way he see's it. Now he has some magical dust to delete some crap that does get annoying. But he ain't no Paul Blart. That guy has a cool segway...
