I have been screwing around with him all morning. Making him explain over and over again how to scratch off the silver stuff on the back of the gift cards and if he would accept Applebees gift cards instead.7 points

Despite having purchased way too many of these over the past weeks, today is the first time I opened a set and got to see them in person. I found some surprises. My favorites: 1 - Tiger Woman - just so sassy 2 - Wacky Witch - she wins for best accessories: broom, cat, hat and skirt... and just for being a classic Halloween staple character 3 - Spectre is cool for his tattered clothes, and glow-in-the-dark head 4 - Fly Guy is cooler than I had thought... his head / eyes are red/transparent... striking in bright light. 5 - Banshee is alright... most interesting is her translucent hair... other than that, I'm not too crazy about her 6 - Frankenrocker surprised me... I think he looks better than the Frankenstein that comes with 10228... better, brighter colors; more interesting clothes. 7 - I would think Plant Guy would be popular in the same way that Piggy Guy, Unicorn Girl, Hot Dog Guy are popular... his unique "costume". But it's really all about the head piece... the rest of him is just "meh"... also, the colors just don't "do it" for me. 8 - Spider Lady is unique... in a pinch, she could substitute for the Vampiress in 10228, but the 10228 character has much better "Morticia Addams-style" hair. I don't like Spider Lady's 'doo. ... if I were a casual minifig collector (and I'm not)... the kind of collector that didn't have to have every single one,... then I just might like to buy these first eight, for their uniqueness. 9 - Cheerleader - not that great for me... I don't like her dull hair color... but I imagine she could be of special interest in schools like MSU (green & white). ... and all the rest are just so-so for me for one reason or another. Just my $.02.3 points

When I was writing our book, it forced me to look at ALL of the themes. The sets discussed on this site are obvious choices and low hanging fruit, but there are dozens of high quality, under the radar themes and sets that will be solid to strong collectibles in the future...and will not be remade.3 points

True, but on the same token, you can also say it's all about your profit margin/remaining stock after you flipped a bunch. Currently, i'm sitting on a bunch of free complete sets thanks to all those "i got to have it right now" collectors. So, if I wanted to I could give these out as halloween candy, and just walk away…... At the current prices, the buy in after fees/shipping costs would have to be almost half of retail to consider it a flip worth doing. I'm cautiously optimistic prices will go back up, but not this year.2 points

Been moving the $1.49 SW magnets (blow out from LEGO Shop at Home ) in sets of 7 at close to $5/ea. I pad my shipping, so I will be close to 300% after fees. I bought over 100, I wish I had 300 more.2 points

Yeah, Slimer became a permanent 'house guest' of the Ghostbusters in the cartoon and he could talk somewhat. Oh yeah, and slimed Peter a lot. Ha. Stay Puft showed up six times I think between the Sandman episode (as part of a kid's dream), when Spengler's uncle let him loose from the containment unit after ranting how the whole ghost thing was "ridiculous nonsense", at the end of the story when the Ghostbusters temporarily were "Crimebusters" he walks into view then winks at the audience, when a paranormal convention came to town and he was going to be the guest of honor, then my favorite when "The Big Guy" fights Murray the Mantis, and finally for a Stay Puft Marshmallows commercial they let him out to film it which inadvertently let a real nasty Phantom they previously captured escape. Okay, so I watched the cartoon with a passion.2 points

In the 10188 thread, Ed Mack said: "...I think it's time for people to look at the hundreds of other potential sets out there as collectibles instead of the same few dozen. LEGO can't keep them all in production." I don't know if he was talking about sets like 70723 Thunder Raider... but I am... What is up with this set? I picked up about 5 at the end of 2014 for about $20 ea. Sold them all before June at ~$40 each (shipped). I figured it would take a while to see bigger appreciation on this set... may as well flip 'em quick and invest in something better. Now I see them going for >$45 on ebay (shipped) and $57 Amzn Prime... what the what? You mean if I had held onto those for just a few more months, I'd be looking at 115% profit in 10 months (w/ FBA)? But I'm not here to reminisce and moan... I want know what is it about these sets that make them so special? I recall lots of BP'ers moaning about "stupid Ninjago"... the worst thing in their portfolio... especially this particular series ... the "Nindroid" era... everybody hated it. Now... just about anything that is not on the store shelves anymore is going up... just looking at Amazon prices: 70500 Kai's Fire Mech $21.99 70721 Kai's Fighter $31.95 70727 X-1 Charger $43.95 70722 Overborg Attack $34.73 70720 Hover Hunter $12.98 (... how much were these on clearance at LEGO Shop at Home? I passed.) The bigger sets from this series are also moving up... just not as fast... Is it time to buy those dented up 70728 Battle for Ninjago City I still see on the shelves ... even at $82+ tax on Thursday?2 points

As with all JW sets, check your seals and weigh/check for suspicious activity. I've run across more than one JW set with the dinosaurs suspiciously absent and replaced with army men. One person went so far as to stuff the box with dollar store toy dinosaurs...I appreciated their effort in maintaining the theme.2 points

went looking at a target for sealed cases today. the clerk didnt find any even though it shows in stockroom. instead he brought me a complete sealed display case of series 7 in a shipper. im thinkin what?!?! took it to service desk to get the price adjusted to 2.99, because im a cheap bastard. instead i got them for $2 each and 5% redcard. moral of the story is check your local stockrooms. you may find gold. barcodes on them still scanned as series 14.2 points

This is so true. I make a substantial amount of my profit each year on sets that are rarely if ever discussed here. I still buy and sell the big ones too, but there are far higher margins to be made on smaller sets.1 point

Yes, we need to all start buying/hoarding the short lived themes that no one wanted - that will end well.1 point

Go clean out all the Tiger Woman. $7-$8USD on ebay at the moment. I sold a batch of 15 to someone in Hong Kong, not sure why they want so many in one shot.1 point

FWIW - I actually wish every Lego set came with the punch holes as it would be significantly harder for scammers to pull of a "remove the minfigs/return the set" scam.1 point

That's great news!! I was to late into lego collecting to get all of the Harry Potter sets, but was able to get all of the last series x2, all of the castles and my favorite hungarian horn tail, MISB!! Will get all of the Harry Potter sets X2 this next go around as well. Love to watch the movies with my boys around Christmas1 point

Are those all of the figs? I would expect more for a lot that size. If it’s just a sample and assuming condition is good. Personally I’d go for it. There is a least one series 1 CMF, Dummy and enough later series CMF’s to suggest there will be a reasonable amount in the lot. Gladiator, Tribal chief, Aztec Warrior. There is a Snape, probably from Snape's Class as the Sand Green Roof Piece 6 x 6 x 3 Peaked is one of the lots. A Robin, he looks an older one so could be interesting, but difficult to tell from the pics. Probably some western sets as I can see a Plant, Tree 6 x 6 Hollow Stump and a Palisade Wall 1X6X6 Ship Hull parts and looks to be pirate figs parts in there. I'd guess at Brickbeard's Bounty. The red wagon plate is from either Holiday train, Santa Fe, Freight and Crane (4565) or stand alone. The three trains all have value, but you could be unlucky and it’s standalone with no real value. Only risk for me would be condition and amount of non-lego and other junk in the lot.1 point

If the box were not beat up I personally would think about buying it. But with an abused box I would rather pay 50 dollars (half retail).1 point

Don't do it. You have to read the books to get the real HP experience. The movies don't come close to doing it justice.1 point
