  1. Throw back Thursday! One year ago today I made my smartest move as a brickvestor: First thing in the morning, I bought my first Town Hall on double VIP, just hours before they went out of stock. I love to reminisce when I was right, so just for fun… some other comments from that day…(all comments edited and taken out of context)… Bricketycricket: Backordered at LEGO Shop at Home. You may now commence EOL speculation and unwarranted panic Trekgate502: I think it is heading towards EOL land based on multiple comments BUT that is purely highly unwarranted speculation. Of course where mscheaf and I have the fork discussion going on the haunted house, I won't stick a fork in this one. VBG Mscheaf: Yeah, if I get worried about this set retiring I will just go to the Lego store and pick up a few of the 2 dozen I saw there next to the Town Hall display model. Neosphinx: Still plenty of stock Clxmouth: OOS at TRU. They had em a couple hours ago. …reports of OOS on other sites continued to come in… speculation tilted both ways… more comments seemed to lean towards, “this set isn’t going EOL yet… just the stupid herd creating artificial demand, and ensuring another big production run…” And then on Oct 2… Ed Mack: Very soon, this will be the busiest thread on the site. … then things really started to roll. Ahhh… good times… glad I was here to be a part of it. I was able to pick up several more over the next few weeks. The "dance" that ensued seemed quite orderly and easy to navigate, compared to what's going on these days. Probably never happen again quite that way.

First modular MOC attempt began as ice cream shop but ran out of pink bricks so started working on other floors with blue. now i'm out of blue and waiting for more blue to arrive and will finish off the ice cream palace with another pink floor my daughter has promised i turn into a nail salon in exchange for eminent domain consuming her boxed up city park cafe I just can't deal with a pink ground floor and everything else blue. waiting for more Grilles to make a blue base.

  3. Found 22 more today across 3 different Walmarts. I just had to take a few photos before I sent out more for FBA. Total holding as of today: 76 Christmas Tree of Raptor Escapes!

  4. Fine, I'll play. 250 pounds of bulk with Emerald Night, QAR, BP, Shuttle Expedition, every Indiana Jones Set, plus 50 or so other sets. Oh, almost forgot, a 90% complete Grand Carousel. $50.

  5. i finished the build review. just need to get the pictures ready. here is a sneak peak of the motorized Wall-E i built. hiding the PF cables was the main challenge. another obstacle was the torque generated by the 2 PF 8883 M-Motors. the "Cross Axle 4M" that connects the 8883 and track assembly tends to get separated (that side stops moving). update: yeah, the dog wouldn't leave Wall-E alone and demanded a cameo.

  6. I think I got you beat on the 10030 front. From CL back in 2011, some guy was selling a star destroyer and falcon for $15. I was lucky that I was the first to call him. Based on the ad (I saved a pdf of it for fun), I thought it was going to be 6211 and 10179, but it turned out to be 10030 and 4504. I didn't complain though! haha 10030 was missing about $60 in parts and 4504 was only half there so I put it in my parts bin. Best CL find ever! Runner up would be loose 10181 from CL for $100. Edit: I just realized that I posted this already back in June 2014. Sorry, but I just love retelling this story.

  7. i come to find out that both coupons on page 1 are actually 20% (with card). here is a way to maximize your truth this month: scan most expensive items first (in this case 49.99 and 44.99), scan bricktober, scan card, scan 20%, scan 15%(20%), scan $5/25. as long as your items are $75+ before tax and coupons, POS will ring BT up free. discounts are applied in different order (see exhibit a), but follow the scanning order above to get the most benefit. rewards and GCs are not taken into consideration.

  13. Saw some Lego sets marked down at Kmart 25% - 30% off. They were sale prices, so surprise points worked on them just fine. Some were in the clearance section (but without the yellow clearance stickers) and others were in the regular Lego aisle and not marked, but scanned with the sale price. I've been using surprise/reward points to pick these up heavily discounted. 41028: Emma's Lifeguard Post $7.24 60012: Coast Guard 4x4 & Diving Boat $13.94 31021: Furry Creatures $13.94 41008: Heartlake City Pool $30.09

  15. Here's one of those wacky "had to be there" things. I am at Target, picking up online orders for Non-LEGO related stuff - and a guy walks out of the back with a slightly beaten up but sealed Atlantis 8061 - Gateway of the Squid set. Someone else had left it for him to do something with. I told him I'd take it if it was cheap enough, he scanned it and it came up $14. Sold. How often do people stumble on 5 year old sets at these stores?! Crazy.

  16. I met this guy at the mall...and told him that I want 375 Yellow Castle. He just brought it to me, for free. All I had to do was be "good" for the year. What a joke. I totally was bad a couple of times. I Miss that guy...what a sucker, totally ripped him for some other free stuff too. Loser.

  22. Not really a compliant. But sometimes. I spent the first ten years of my career in IT support, on helpdesks and then managing helpdesks and sometimes it takes every ounce of that experience to help people buy. I’ve just spend an hour walking an Italian Lady, who clearly had no clue on how to use eBay or computers in general, through the buying process, via GSP, using google translate. But yah £8 profit…

  27. I didn't try the 3 coupons on 2 items approach, but I did the 20% + $5 with no problem. Got 2 Louvres plus the the Bricktober set for $92.68 before tax. I'm happy with today's TRUTHiness.

  30. of course now the way to do that is 1. buy the delorean LEGO 21103 2. Go back in time 3. buy whole lot of "Aquanauts" and "Darth Vader" 4. instead of landing in 2015 go to 2030 sell them for 20X or 30X. buy **** load of whatever is cheaper gold, platinum or uranium 5. Come back in 2015 and enjoy life with the new found wealth

  36. I think FB would be more likely to take a hit since they are both fire stations but ultimately GBHQ is a different scale and will not fit in a modular lineup without alot of modding. It opens up like the Haunted House hinge style so it would be best to have it as a standalone anyway. The only set GBHQ is going to kill is Ecto-1. I am sitting on my TH for another few years

  37. Just bought the Starter Pack, BTF level pack, and Wonder Woman Fun Pack (which now sounds slightly strange) for the kiddos last night after 2x VIP started. The game itself seems to be getting some good press - apparently, the game utilizes the pad and figures for more than just activating a character in the game. As I read, the location you place these figs on the pad (there are three sections), and the timing of placement become part of the gameplay puzzles. Every review I read of this game also said Dimensions was the best/most enjoyable of all Lego games with its mashup story lines and humor typical of the Lego/Tt games. So, I bit the bullet - with 2x VIP, I get 10% back to spend on Lego for me. Sounds like a win-win...

  38. Those look like Australian prices. $269.99 is the Pet Shop LEGO Shop at Home price Ewok Village likely on layby at Target from a 20% off sale
    1 point
  39. My local LEGO store had a 'Retiring Soon' sign in front of their Ewok Village sets (see the Ewok Village thread) and they were gone in about a week. Pet Shop being close to retirement is still speculative, but based on it having been out for so long. Modulars are popular around Christmas, though. If the plans were to retire it soon, maybe it would not reappear on shelves after the holidays. BTW, where are you and what currency are you dealing with? If US dollars, that Ewok Village price is inflated 20% over MSRP, but that Pet Shop price is outrageous for a $149 set. I'd sell you one of mine for that price.

  40. So you found one picture taken somewhere in the world of a pickup truck with tons of after market modifications and an obvious emissions issue ...and that relates to VW selling 500,000 new cars after cheating on standardized emissions tests how? But yeah, Obama's fault I guess...

  41. Got a 10030 for $100 on CL earlier this year. Seller was a Marine, who had bought it from a other Marine. The guy I bought it from had never build it - he was into Technic. He had tons of Technic he was selling too. He just wanted to get his $100 back. It was all there except for maybe 100 pieces. It was clear that one small section didn't make it into the tub. But otherwise it's fantastic.

  44. In my opinion it´s a bit too soon to buy in for long term investment and certainly not at more than 30% off - before Xmas there will be better deals and this set should be around for at least two years, if not more. Even a quick flip at Xmas is not likely to be worth more than 170 and then after commissions you are back to where you started.....

  45. $10 off on a $30 set ? It's sweet. The taller version is sweet too, but the window/door is too big IMO It would have been better to hide the top and bottom window of this door, to have just a skylight. TOK: Next step: build this MOC and crush it with your bare hands ^^
