  1. New code for $10 off of $50. Sounds like it works on Lego but haven't tested: NewArrival16 Just tested on new Star Wars Lego and it seems to work so we are good to go! Not sure when it expires though.

  3. My son and I spent the last couple of months Bricklinking a Super Star Destroyer (missed it when it was available). We just got the last parts yesterday, which was a baggy of 22 blue hinges that I ordered in the wrong color. We split it up over 10 different orders, both to keep the incremental cost reasonable (a bit each pay-check), and because many parts were not available from the same vendors in the quantities needed for this guy. All-in-all, I spent about $380 on the ship itself (no mini-figs or stickers). I substituted 3 piece types. The first is the infamous yellow Technic 5x5 right-angles (subbed it for black ones), the second is the large quantity of light and dark-grey 1x2 plates with 1 stud (had to sub it for the kind that has a slight groove along the bottom), and the third is a transparent blue piece that has the Emperors face on it (just the regular transparent blue piece for now). I've also picked up Admiral Piett ($20) because we have to have at least one guy on the bridge when we put it together. I'll get the rest of the mini-figs over the next few of weeks. This was really enjoyable for the 2 of us, and we spent last weekend taking inventory of all the orders to make sure we have everything we need. Our "master plan" was to hold it for Thanksgiving vacation to assemble. I don't think we're going to make it.

  8. Resurrecting this thread. I was going to post this in the What you building from bulk thread, but then realized that it's mostly stuff I'm looking to do on Bricklink, not from bulk, that I want to talk about. I realize my list is getting out of control at the moment. This is what's on my current Bricklink "want" list. I'm starting to put together orders now: 10188 Death Star - need to finish out about 100 pieces, from a Goodwill pick up that was missing a couple hundred pieces 10211 Grand Emporium - eBay purchase that was missing about 200 pieces 10224 Town Hall - decided I'm going to try to BL this instead of cracking open my inventory for resell 10680 Juniors Garbage Truck - I just want the dumpster 20010 Republic Gunship - Polybag is too expensive 20019 Slave 1 - Polybag is too expensive 4488 Millenium Falcon - Polybag is too expensive 5004590 Batpod - I didn't win one, and I'm not buying one 5526 Skyline - Too expensive NIB 60073 Service Truck - I just want the port-a-potty 75010 B-Wing - I don't want the planet, just need the ship 7778 Midi Millenium Falcon - eBay purchase that was missing just a couple of parts SDCC Batmobile - rather BL it than buy it SDCC Superman - rather BL it than buy it SDCC Ultron - rather BL it than buy it Tatooine Mini Build - rather BL it than buy it Dagobah Mini Build - rather BL it than buy it *Whew!* I should probably slow down a bit.

  10. I sometimes stop to collect my thoughts - those can be pretty worthless.

  11. In the literal sense you technically are a collector. You can collect for value/rarity, etc, but you can also collect without a care about value. Sure I do care about the value of some of my things, but it's not the biggest motivator either. I technically 'collect' Blu-ray movies, but I don't do it for monetary reasons. I do it to own the movies and such. I have other stuff I've collected over the years that have no value whatsoever, but I still keep them because they hold meaning to me other than value. So yes, I do still consider myself a collector and a huge fan of Lego. I'm not trying to start a huge war about it, but it's just different definitions to fit different people's needs is all. So yes we do disagree, but we are both right.

If you're still holding while so few are available in the market place and at the prices they are selling for, I just don't feel sorry for you. I wonder how many sellers had/have yanked their Star Wars inventory from BL, eBay, etc, waiting to see what hype the movie generates.

  13. Also, as others have noted, if you honestly have held onto this for over 12 years trying to squeeze ever last drop, then that's your own fault. At one point, with inflation and every other measure out there, you will start to lose money anyways as it plateaus out in value. There are exceptions of course, but 12+ years to hold on for possibly an extra couple hundred is silly, when there are plenty of sets even now that can net you more than that value in shorter time.

  21. Simply list as New in Sealed Bags instead of New in Box. NIB implies that the box is still sealed. Like zskid00 said, you're opening up yourself to a SNAD case even if you show that the box is opened by listing NIB. With sealed bags, you'll get 90+% of NIB simply because someone buying to build isn't going to care if the box is opened as long as they know it's complete and pieces are still new.

  23. My wife's grandfather recently passed away, and we acquired this old pinball machine from his estate. It's called Gold Rush. Produced by Bally in 1966. It accepts dimes and has a built in "bonus" game built into the back glass. I am not an expert on pinball machines, but was hoping to gain a little insight into its value and how to go about cleaning it up. It appears to be all original. It does work, but not perfectly. For something that is 50 years old and has probably never been cleaned or cared for properly I should expect that. I did a little research but couldn't find much on the internet other than there were only 1750 of these made and were produced for New York and Wisconsin. This makes sense because we live in Green Bay. Can anyone shed some light on my newly acquired family heirloom? Thank you.

  26. 20% off plus $10 off would be a colossal fire sale in CAD with this exchange rate. The last time there was a 20% off, I hammered the Avengers tower hard and made about $15USD each on those after ebay fees and shipping. Just do the in store pickup. The cashier at Lansdowne Mall in Richmond B.C. asked me what the heck am I doing with 25 sets of these. I have a suspicioun people will be punching in orders for the monsters minifigs this time if it shows up online. 3.99x15 = $60 - $10 = $50 $50x1.12 (BC tax) = $56 Convert back to USD is around 2.75 a pack after taxes. The cheapest I got the minifigs was in Oregon stacking GCs and 5% red card at target, and it was 2.80USD a pack. And I had to go to the store lining up and the cashier had to scan this and that. So what you really want to see now is the CAD dropping to 72 cents. Then you clean every lego set that is on sale with the code. Minifigures can be used as fillers.

  29. Built 21303 - Wall-E last night. This was done on my live stream on Twitch. Great build with some interesting techniques. I see what people mean about the floppy head tho. Now that it is actually available in stores, I'm curious to see the difference.

  30. It's showing up... The forum software takes a moment sometimes to display the "summary box" of the thread you're link to in a post. You just copy & paste the URL with or without the parts added to the end. For example your post has the following URL: http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/13646-bricklink-discussion-questions-answers/?do=findComment&comment=500771If you want to link to a specific comment, you paste the URL. If you want to link to the thread (and let the forum decide where the user ought to end up) you can remove everything after the question mark (?) and it'll decide for you.

  31. So when is that 10179 remake coming already??? I want one and just cant bring my self to spend 5k.... heck if they are doing a 4600 piece GBHQ I want a UCS falcon with at least 6000....

  32. If this rumor proves true it is definitely a slippery slope for LEGO, but keep in mind the UCS Snowspeeder came out over a decade ago. How many investors are still holding inventory of this one compared to how many fans missed out and would buy a new version at retail? I say bring on remakes of the ISD, Y-wing, and Vader's TIE Fighter but that's just the collector in me talking.

  35. If the seals are cut I would not list it as a new item on eBay. You're opening yourself up to a potential SNAD case. I would mark it as used, thoroughly describe the condition (ie - damaged box, cut seals, but sealed bags), and take good pictures to show the condition of the box. As far as pricing you are likely to get pretty close to the current market prices for a HH in this condition since the bags are sealed and most people are buying to build it at this point.

  38. Aren't they a little late with the shark mini-build? I mean Shark Week was about a month or so ago. It still is a nice brick-built model and the Gingerbread House although also small is very nice. Now if only LEGO would make it more appropriately sized for the Winter Village. That would be sweet.

  39. Here at number ten is Spyrius' 6959 Lunar Launch Site 'castled' into a Wolfpack Hideout. Now this for me wins on many levels. First, I took one look at the build and immediately recognized what the set of inspiration was. Second, Spyrius was possibly my favorite group of explorers well as some personal fervor for Wolfpack. Third, the built-up 'baseplate' is quite good almost matching the actual one in every aspect. A lot of play features integrated here like a trap door, secret passageway through the middle openable boulder, a hidden dungeon beneath the ground, and then some.

  40. Here is the Brick Show building the Batpod, at the end they show the finished set. It could just be the lighting but I am surprised at some of the color choices and I think I may also make some color modifications. I will have to wait and see how it looks next to the Tumbler.

  41. If you have a target selling price (say, 3x buy-in) then sometimes that can be achieved right at the beginning (RI), after some years (Dino) or maybe never all (Prince of Persia) - there don´t seem to be fixed rules. Recently we have seen that some popular sets have dipped/stagnated in resale value. Wary of a remake and happy with the price, I sold my 7965´s but held on to 10224´s even though it had reached my target get-out price because my expectation was that there was more growth to come there. Maybe it would have been smarter to do the other way around, or have sold everything to be coherent with the 3x strategy or have kept everything for 3 more years and enjoyed the ride. Sticking to the get-out price whilst jettisoning sets that don´t show good growth prospects is probably the safest and least stressful option, even if it means you will sometimes sell sooner than is optimum - the problem is we get greedy and want more from certain sets than is perhaps reasonable.

  44. They'd be mostly boring stock room pics right now. As I don't currently have a home office/study/den/basement, and Mrs. Deadfraggle doesn't want to decorate our living room or bedroom in a LEGO motiff, I'm anxiously awaiting my next Army PCS move to hopefully get a bigger house.
