So I'm in Asda ( our Walmart for you Americans) just picking up some odds and ends tonight, anyway in this random corner I spotted like several cases of series 13 minifigures, which looked untouched, and seeing as how they just cleared all the Simpsons series 2 down to £1, I figured I'd grab one and price check, long story short they were £1 each, so I ended up with 3 full boxes. Good random score.5 points

Yes it did. It lost hundreds of dollars in value over the course of the last few years or so. It used to sell for $1,200 or more. It has been sitting at $900.00 for months. The situation with remakes or reissues is serious one with the STAR WARS theme. The news of a new movie was great news for the theme, but the news of these "retro" STAR WARS movies will make the theme highly volatile, affecting some severely...either in a positive or negative way. With each possible remake though, people will be less apt to spend big money on the retired sets. They will say..."Hey, why bother buying an old set? I can wait for the remake!" When this happens, all Hell will break loose. It won't matter if you are in it for the long term or short term or whether you are an investor or flipper, because the perceived value of this theme will be reduced. Long term, these sets will never reach the levels of current sets and short term, who will pay premium prices for a short term fix when they know there is no back end benefit? Set will appreciate slower after retirement and to lower levels. What is ironic about this whole thing is that the often maligned "Prequel Trilogy" STAR WARS movies might become the most valuable LEGO sets because these sets might never be remade to any large degree. Sure, there will be some sets never remade and they will benefit, but on the whole, the appreciation of the sets in the UCS will be stunted or reduced.5 points

It's two fold - some refuse to sell until they're squeezing that last penny out of it and some just have no plans to sell. Apologies to those who hoard rather than sell (sorry Ed and Jeff) but that's the risk you take in any investment. Buy low, sell high - I'm no financial expert (someone else does that for me) but in general isn't that how investment portfolios are managed? It's not "buy low, never sell" or "buy low, wait until growth has stagnated and then wait some more just to see if I can get an extra 10% by selling in 6 months." (PS I know it's not so simple, but the general principle seems to be pretty accurate to me.) What I buy to collect I don't worry about value. What I've bought for investment I buy to sell for a decent profit. I only have 2 SSD left because I sold the others locally for 2x my buy in (no shipping hassle or fees, why the heck not). It means the two I have left (mine and one more to sell) are "paid for" along with other items in my inventory. I'm good with that. I'll also be good with a UCS Snowspeeder remake because I want one but can't justify the cost. That's my selfish side talking.4 points

My overall message prior was not that this set is bad, I think it is gold. My point was greed and fear and how quickly people can be swayed to go all in and clean out every last one or return, cancel or not invest in any. Group think coupled with those emotions is what makes investing a losing business for many. Changes are in the wind and people better pay attention.3 points

People better be careful about what they wish for or the whole UCS theme will become worthless as an investment.3 points

Last few days have sold these to stock up on newer better sets (in my opinion) BTF x1, Spidy chase x11, helms deep x1, friends van news x3, riddles of ring x1, lr mine x1, mine craft micros x3, ultra build batman x1, lr stage coach x1, sw dessert skiff x1, cargo train x1, ninjago golden dragon x1, crazy sci and monster x1, galaxy squad titan x1, batcave x2, chi temple x1, kings castle x1, lr train x1, ninjago sonic raider x1, and some other stuff. Was trying to clear out the hodge podge to make room for sales and bigger sets I want to focus on.3 points

Which ad drives you nuts? You know the one - it's been there for months, it's priced way too high, and it's constantly renewed so it shows up at the top every time you search for lego. For me it's this create-a-puzzle. I do not like you, puzzle that's marginally related to lego2 points

Saw a flat of Lego at my TRU today and looks like the Bricktober sets are similar to last year's. Sorry if this is already posted, couldn't find anything on my phone.2 points

City does not regurgitate same buildings and vehicles -- they are remade; modified, updated. The 'update' to Winter Toy Shop is nominal--proverbial lipstick on a pig.2 points

2-3 years goes by quickly, then you have a big pile of gold. What's wrong with that? Patience, buy when you can, put them away, move on to the next thing.2 points

No, but the thought process for many back then was that if they released a second series that the first series would be in higher demand. We shall see. Bricktober = October 10/41 point

If i had to guess I'd say the majority of new re-sellers either dont have a strategy or dont have the patience to hold onto sets for the long term. All depends on what your strategy & goals are but if it were me I'd wait on the initial quick flippers to clear out and take there few % gain and hold on. But say you stock up on SW and next xmas its EOL and going for 2 x RRP... might be too soon but if there was some other set that caught my eye I'd flip it right there Personally if you buy a set for the long haul then I'd ignore all the QFLL noise you're bound to get and just keep the end goal in mind.1 point

But but Master Yoda, my fear leads me to cowering and retreat... what will happen to me then ? And sometimes, my anger leads to fear, not hate. Also, I noticed my lack of sleep leads to being tired that leads to broken toes that leads to suffering. Am I going to dark side too ?1 point

I can't believe that there's so much "the sky is falling" on a set that just got its 2015 holiday launch. Admittedly I have not been paying attention for long, and haven't seriously been looking for more than a few months. Can someone tell me if I am wrong about any of the following suppositions. 1. this set is seasonal, so LEGO was bound to pull it out of production after the holiday last year, because no one wants to build a Christmas themed set in March. 2. these holiday sets tend to have a 2 year cycle 3. The official re-release date was most likely this week when LEGO officially put it up on their site. 4. Most popular toys rise in price early until supply begins to roll out in force, then it drops to regular levels. 5. We have no reason to believe that this set will make a reappearance next year1 point

Yeah I think it all depends on what your looking to get out of it. I started as a collector, then moved into investing to pay for it. 90% of my portfolio is long term hold. I've sufficient cash flow to invest in Lego put it away and 'forget about it'. For me it will be nice in 3-4 years to able to sell a few sets and take the family on holiday. The collector in me wants to keep 1 of each of my favorite sets extra long term (10+ years), see what they get to, and probably pass them on to my kids. All my used sets will be boxed back up at some point and the same will happen with them. At some point if Ive had enough, I wouldn't rush out and sell all my inventory, I just wouldn't buy any more. The stuff I sell now, I offset on the lego i'm buying to hold. I've sold 5 RR this month which means the 2 I have left have cost me near nothing. I enjoy doing this, but do not consider it a career, just a hobby with benefits.1 point

Used to be, post EOL was the only game in town. Now it seems the new folks are just after the big flip on release. That's a hard, cruel game to play. My best tool is patience--and it seems like it's in short supply. Santa will do investors just fine, and 10235 has just now disappeared at retail. I'm not writing her off yet...1 point

I didn't take this seriously over the weekend and the nearest Smyths was looted yesterday evening when I finally decided to go. The two sets I really wanted were all gone. There was a Slave I on the shelves but I think there is loads of time to stock up on this one. And yes....now the word is everywhere and the big & nice sets are all gone from the shops. It was difficult enough already and now with all the new people jumping on board it becomes even more difficult...1 point

Did another quarterly 'cleaning' of sets to free up space. Lots / some of The Swamp Creature, Orc Forge, Batwing Over Gothum City, Bat vs. Ban Tumbler Chase, Spideman SpiderCycle and Malibu Mansion sets. Had a Chima Lion Temple, Wolverine/ Deadpool set, Palpatine's Shuttle, The Gatehouse Raid and King's Castle. It was a win - win for me and the buyer. $3100 shipped. Pics 1 and 2 fit in the same box. All pics taken before packing material and inner cardboard braces were used.1 point
