So I've been buying used lots with sets my wife and I want, building everything, and then selling the rest to recoup some cash, coming out ahead, at the very least, factoring what we would've spent on what we kept. Perhaps when I've been watching you guys play the game long enough and have the capital I'll jump in. But for the time being I just wanted to share this: I bought a lot with a very apparent non-original-3 retired modular in it for the price of a used copy of the modular. Based on the description I was given, it sounded like there may be another in the lot, along with some other smaller sets. Received it today. Sure enough, had a couple "modern era" retired modulars, a couple more sets went for $100ish retail and oh what's a Darth Vader doing in here? What sets does this one appear in? I looked at the pieces spread out across the table and realized I also received a Super Star Destroyer!! Needless to say I was elated and have since been threatening the wife that I'm going to hover it over our modular city hahah TBD on keep, hold, sell. : D7 points

Honestly I think there is a very real possibility that new boxes have nothing to do with what is retiring and what they will produce more of in the future. The new boxes are for the Creator line only as far as I can tell. So TLG has a new Creator logo design and they want uniformity in their Creator sets; the sets they just released and the sets they are about to retire. Not a big deal. I don't think TLG is saying to itself: "we have to produce x thousand more of x sets (Tower Bridge, Palace Cinema, T1, etc) because we just changed our logo!" I think they will go EOL at the exact same times as they otherwise would have.4 points

Even the sun shines on a dog's butt some days....picked up a Very Good Town Hall out of the Warehouse for $236. Not sure how they calculated their price for this, I think it may have been an FBA item from the stickers on it, but it made it an easy decision to buy. The box was rough, but I was only hoping for sealed bags. They were all included and sealed.3 points

If I wait long enough, someone always posts what I wanted to say but more eloquently. Thanks for that. At some point older sets--while still selling--just don't bring the volume of sales that something new would. Consumer fatigue, investor fatigue... it's like saying "The Sorcerer's Stone was a great book and sold well, so why did JK Rowling write six more?" Because consumers--especially fans--expect something new. A new book to read, a new set to build... books and Lego sets are different, sure, but the analogy is there Of course, we still have that DS to deal with... The one with Groot arm-wrestling an Ent? I'd pay for that.2 points

Finally got myself a Queen Anne's Revenge to build (used) for $140-ish (shipped) after eBay Bucks and Target/eBay gift cards. Looking forward to the build...not sure if it goes in line before or after the Black Pearl...or the T1...or the...2 points

Minifigures plus is as legit as they come. I got a mr gold in the series 10 case I ordered from them. So all questions of tampering or not being honest or whatever were thrown out the window on that one. Minifigures plus is a great seller.2 points

I finished a 75054 AT-AT yesterday. I've wanted an AT-AT since I was a kid ogling the Sears Christmas catalog. I watched other Lego iterations come and go, but this fulfilled a life-long quest for me. Now it's going to accompany me to my office, sit on a filing cabinet, and get hijacked by pirate zombies.2 points

Low risk , good margins and people will buy these continuously as they can't just buy 1 off of SAH for $10, they would spend 18ish with tax and shipping. So there is always value in them from the get go. Any leftovers you save for the following season and make combos. A lot of people aren't like us that buy $75 to get free shipping and promos. They just want that one small set to put on display for the holiday. I try to get at least 200 of each seasonal set. Sometimes not all up front but on the back end at clearance as well for the following year. Bats at $5 were a great investment last year and are already pulling $15 again. Combo up with the new one for $35 on a $15 investment. Takes a little pre-planning as well to make the combos work.2 points

Yeah... bought it at a wholesaler. Unfortunately I was too late. They had many more yesterday. Also missed the Mos Eisly Cantina's they had at 40% off.1 point

Except ToO probably doesn't sell at the same volume as many other new sets. LEGO can't keep making all sets all the time. LOTR/Hobbit is fading away and I'm sure LEGO would rather put the production resources into Star Wars than to keep this set going just because resellers are scooping them up during it's final days.1 point

Right before Labor Day weekend. I wasn't sure I would get it since I had to spend time removing stuff from my cart that my wife put in there. I'm not sure if I'll flip it, build it, or maybe even try to trade it.1 point

No judgement from me. I'd flip all over the place if I had better access to retail outlets. As it is, my best options are online--by the time my orders ship, the ship has sailed.1 point

It's all relative and I do mix it up a little. One method may be a little more conservative than the other, but you can win either way.1 point

Also very sorry to hear about this issue with our stock. I hope that a representative was able to explain to you that we never tamper with the boxes, nor do the distributors we purchase from. We have no reason to do so. Unfortunately with all the shipping and weather these boxes go through, some people are led to believe that the seals on their boxes were tampered with. However, this is just not the case. It is very often due to TLG adding additional seals or to the tabs just rubbing off. The reason we ship in the original LEGO brown boxes is so that buyers can examine that box to ensure that the box inside would never have been tampered with (as it is often very difficult to recognize a truly "tampered with" box). Hope this information helps you and other CMF fans who may wonder about seals on boxes. I can say with confidence that this is accurate after seeing the same problems with thousands of boxes but yet confirming 100% accurate contents.1 point

You add the trees and the next thing you know Warwick is roasting a Werewolf and a Catwoman for dinner. I bought some S3 Mixels for my kids - got S4 cheap so of course now I'm going to have to shell out $400 buying S1/S2/S3/S5.1 point
