  1. Sold a 21303 Wall-E for $91 + shipping on ebay. After fees, etc, made about $29 profit =~ 57% (+ TRU rewards). I was gonna put this story in "what did you buy today", but I sold it too quick... 2 days ago, I was at my TRU where I met a fellow BP'er (I think). He looked like me... walking back-and-forth in the Lego aisle... looking at his phone... so I said something like , "Hey! You look like a Lego collector / investor." He confirmed. I said, "Do you follow Brickpicker?" ... he said 'yes'. I said, "Me too! I'm Ken-triple-x !" And he told me his name... but I didn't quite hear it correctly. Sure I could've asked again, but I felt maybe I was already giving off a bit of a 'weirdo' vibe.... introducing myself that way... is this guy even really a Brickpicker? ... or is he just humoring me before he calls for store security? So anyway, I let it go... then I saw what he had in his hands... "They've got Wall-E here?!" He said yes, this was the last one, but he wasn't too sure about keeping it... looking at his phone some more... he then offered it to me. But I said, "Nah... I think I'll wait on this one... not sure that I really need to buy that right now." So he put it back on the shelf and walked out. I stood there and thought about it for another minute... decided to pick it up with my 20% off coupon (out the door $51). Wasn't sure it'd be a good flip right now, but thought we might build it at home. As I was going through checkout, I saw the mystery Brickpicker going back to the Lego section again (maybe he, too, changed his mind)? Anyway, I got home, and saw prices on ebay and... "flip, flip, flipadelphia!" So ... thank you mystery Brickpicker... I owe you one.

  7. Built the Temple of Airjitzu today: from the pictures I was concerned there were too many colors and it would look over the top but I am happy to say in person the color choices make sense. The build was no too complex and I wished the Smuggler's Market section was a little more complex brick wise but the rest of the set was fun and I really enjoyed building the main temple section. This was my first ever Ninjago purchase so I am happy about the selection of figures and think they look cool positioned running on the rooftops etc. If I had to give an overall grade it would be B+

  9. Guys quick, Entertainer are doing their penny sale thing again and you can click and collect Benny's spaceship, if they have them in your area, you can get two Benny's for £80 total. Be quick though it's up on UKdeals. They have about 15 Lego set's available but Benny's is really the only one worth getting in my opinion, and this is probably your last chance to get them at a very good price. Go go go Link http://www.thetoyshop.com/c/penny-sale

  11. Goodwill is a charity, but, at what point do you draw the line? If I had received an equal value lamp, should I just try to sell that to recoup my money? The auction site does allow for returns if the item is SNAD. Which is what this came down to. Yes, I could have accepted a refund down from $225 to $111 (the difference in the two auctions), and then made an attempt to recover my costs. But what if I wasn't it in for the resell opportunities? Then I'd be stuck with a whole lot of stuff I didn't want. I'm not asking for anything outside of their rules for playing on the auction site. I'm just asking them to play by the same rules that they agree to play by.

  12. seems weird to me as well, especially employees doing it but seems to be the norm at all stores. My daughter actually gets upset and never wants to know. Likes the surprise element of it I suppose. If she gets doubles just uses them in some other set up she has. On buying note 15 TOT (might as well make the acronym now) SC Damaged 1000pts 2 ToO

  13. Wow... I can't stand there and smoosh in a Lego store. Target or TRU, sure... off on your own in the toy aisles... but in a Lego store? Out in the open, where it couldn't be more obvious that you are trying to take the 'prize' goods, and leave the common stuff for the rest of the customers? That takes attitude that I don't have.

  18. Apparently, according to a contact inside tru, the hike is not directly related to the dollar rate (their stock was secured over a year+ ago) it's due to the difficulty shipping the particular item (due to it's size & weight), she also hinted that they know that item is not being sold to end users as it's being ordered in multiples. either they are catching on & taking advantage of those who'd take advantage of them for holding stock or are just trying another random scummy tactic on for size.

  26. Had some blue and red from 31026-1 bike shop and don't think I'll sell it so I decided moccing it. The color corresponds well with the blue from the DO. The interior hasn't been done yet. Level floor will be bike shop. First and second floor a small studio with seperate bathroom. The entrance to the appartments is via the back. Still need to build a stairs but this will be combined with another MOC building I build with the rest of the 31026-1 pieces. Also need to print some custom stickers for the windows of the shop and the plaque above the door.

  29. I've been doing the Goodwill thing for two years now, so definitively aware of this risk. I do believe he is cherry picking the lot right now. I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I'm going to just ask for a refund from them and send back this lot. Time to move along.

  33. LEGO was wholesaled back in the day (early to mid 2000s) and it didn't work for wholesalers. Generally they put 10% on there cost and as stated many times everyone wants the same sets and are left with overproduced sets or undesirable sets. They then dump all of that product at the end of the season / product line for 50-70% off and wind up losing a crap ton of money. HP was one of the biggest product lines dumped in 2002/03. Bought a 14' box truck of it. 200+ Dumbledores office for $20 a piece. That was when this particular distributor was getting out of LEGO due to no money to be made in wholesaling it. Nothing in wholesale would even come close to super stackfu discounts so not sure what the point would be. Like any other product bought at wholesale you can't pick and choose like we do in the way most of us buy so it would serve no benefit to begin with. Just be stuck with a lot of Chima like all the big retailers are. That said there is still plenty of large liquidations out there which include LEGO just up to people to find it...

  34. I'm sure if we start thinking "charity," we could go all different directions. Maybe send it back and tell them to keep the money, shoot, throw a $100 bill in the lot. I learned the hard way buying stuff in-store is risky as it is, but at least you see what you're buying. I think if they're going to do online auctions, you should at least expect to get what appeared in the picture, not knowing what's under the top layer is enough risk as it is. However, showing a partial Market Street will obviously drive some of us to bid exponentially higher than what we'd pay for any general lot of bricks, which I'd see as SNAD. I love donating to Goodwill when the heart is in it, but it's not such a warm fuzzy feeling when you're mentally writing off a loss from someone else's mistake.

  36. I would hazard a guess that most buyers of lego architecture sets are not architects, but from various professions. Similarly most buyers of art pieces are not artists, and buyers of swiss mechanical watches are not watch makers.

  37. I think Spider Lady is only 3 per case. I got to a target last weekend, and they were just put out. Using the squish method, I managed to get 2 complete sets and grabbed a few others. But, it seems Monster Rocker, Crazy Scientist, and Zombie Pirate are all 5 to case. The Fly, Squarefoot, Plant Monster, Gargoyle, Spectre, Skeleton Guy are all 4 per case. Banshee, Vampire Lady, Zombie Cheerleader, Zombie Businessman, Dominatrix in a Cougar suit, Witch, and Werewolf are 3 per case. ------------ Just judging from what i've seen. Squarefoot, Tiger Lady, Spectre, and Crazy Scientist seems to be the hottest ones.

  39. My good ones: - Detective's Office (one simply cannot have enough modulars). - Temple of Airjitzu - Ferris Wheel - Final Duel (very appealing). - Imperial Shuttle Tydirium (see Final Duel) Bad ones: - BBT, I just do not understand the series and the set. Maybe I am not geeky enough? - Slave I, I just do not like the colour scheme. - WTS (no comment needed). - Minecraft theme (see BBT).

  40. Favorite set of the year is UCS Slave I, and while I won't buy them, I have been surprised at the resurgence of Ninjago this year. The sets are pretty cool. Biggest disappointment of the year for me was the Pirates line. It seems like every time they re-hash this line it gets worse. Pretty sure I'll be saying the same thing about Nexo Knights next year too after initially hearing it was a Fantasy Era re-boot. I was also disappointed at the F-40, but I have also yet to build it, so I'll save some judgement there. T1 and Mini set the bar pretty high in the replica car area. Actually, I'm going to amend my biggest personal disappointment with Lego in '15, and that's the obvious end to Lord of the Rings without a hint of Gondor. I mean, Chima gets a mammoth but LotR doesn't?
