There was tons of anger a few days back when folks first saw the new set. Some of the ambivalence you're encountering is just because folks have already reached that stage of grieving. 1) Denial - We saw the title of the set back in January. Nah, they won't do a straight re-hash. They'd never do that. 2) Anger - We saw the product. Lego Nerds gone wild. WTF?!?!?!? Are they serious???? HOW can they do this to MEEE???? 3) Bargaining - We sold all our sets at 50% discounts from their 'collectible value' in a race to the bottom 4) Depression - I better sell my whole portfolio. This investing thing is over. 5) Acceptance - Hey you know what? If the US stock market can drop 1000 points in 10 minutes,,,,,i'm probably still fine with my lego-vestments.They won't do this with ALL my sets............right? 6) Rinse & Repeat - If they do this again just revisit step 1.

For those that missed out on this set, don't worry, it will be back in a few years.

I really wish they would have upped the ante a little bit and included the pumpkins from the Scooby Doo sets. How hard would that have been?

IMO this one is not as well done as the Valentine's Day and Easter sets, which is a shame because the subject matter is far more interesting.

sold a used Queen Anne's Revenge. Found it on CL a few weeks back for $165 and sold it for $255. Bonus that I got to do a fun build with my boys before selling.

My guess would be that 99% of future buyers of this set after retirement aren't going to give a darn about what box design they get or even be aware that there was a box redesign.

I sold the minifigs for $100 + shipping, probably could have got more, but I'm keeping the set and wanted to keep the funds available

Another thing I learned today: staircases in Holland are crazy dangerous looking. Complete with booby-trap-cord at the bottom, on the off chance that you DO survive the descent.

The thing with these interviews is that the author of the article will chose how they want to spin it. Words are taken out of context and negatives are ignored. But honestly, after today's bloodshed in the worldwide stock markets, the article is truer than ever and more people will be looking for someplace else to invest their money.

The Brickpicker Trade forum has been re-opened. One of the things we were waiting for was the feedback app to become available again. I was able to install it a few days ago. This forum is for trades only. Any type of selling needs to be done on Brick Classifieds. All new trade listings will need to be approved. A trade is basically a post that says "I have a Ecto-1 and looking for a Research Institute" (generally something like that). You have something and want something in return. I highly recommend posting photos of the item you have to trade to show people what it is that you have. It promotes safe trading and helps to answer questions about what you are offering. Once trades are completed, you can use the feedback system. The feedback form is quite simple: Just search for the user that you completed the trade transaction with. Select whether you were the buyer or seller. Select Positive / Negative / Neutral Leave a comment Paste the url of the trade forum topic As you build a feedback history, you will start to see the feedback in your profile area Before anyone asks, I am sorry to report that feedback from the previous forum is indeed gone. Too many differences between version 3.x and 4.x. These topics will not show up in the "recent posts" widget on the homepage, but once it gets going, I hope to add a different recent trades widget to that sidebar. If anything LOTR is going to "pop" post-retirement at this point (outside of Unexpected Gathering) I would put money on this one and maybe The Lonely Mountain if it disappears before the end of the year. This is such an impressive looking build and I actually bought 3 more of them in the last couple weeks after I thought I was done. I just need to make sure I pop the seals on one for my personal collection soon because it's going to be harder to open when the prices start to climb.

LEGO is a toy company, not a collectible company though. I'm sure they take pride in having a strong collector base and higher secondary market prices on retired sets (to an extent) which speaks to the quality of their product and the value that the fan/collector base sees in their product. They want that to continue but there are also many new LEGO fans that weren't around 4-5 years ago to buy the first Winter Toy Shop and LEGO is serving those fans here. I think they know well enough not to continue to re-release all high dollar retired sets but they don't mind stepping on collectors toes from time to time when it comes to their investment values. They would rather have the money in their pocket than on the secondary market all the time.

I have a couple and hope to build one soon. Technic sets like these are for a different type of Lego builder. Gears and other pieces have to be put together with a little slack to prevent friction, etc. I find it very technical (pun intended ) and love it but I do see how building this compared to modulars, for example, can provide a different experience.

Looks like the article received 23,000 shares, and with Brickpicker getting plenty of mentions should be good news for the Macs. This I believe is the first UK article I've seen referencing Lego investing, and with the heavy bias towards the positives of making money without any mention of the negatives I expect this will bring an unwanted spike of new people into the market.

Who knows ? May be it retires this year may it won't. May be the new box is a limited run may be it is a full fledge new run with quantity of 5 available at Lego SAH soon. We will see.

42009 switched from 6 individual instruction manuals to a single, bound volume (Feb/Mar 2015).

Mixels Series 5 Frosticons. They were already built a couple weeks ago but now I can go gab on about them. Ha. Krog is literally just a big mouth but with some good parts and matches his animated counterpart. Chilbo may be tied with Krog as my personal pick for those goofy 'Groucho Marx eyebrows' (neat technique by the way). Unfortunately they always make him look grouchy. I am not a fan the way how his head is connected as though it 'floats' there plus the area behind his noggin downward to his torso appears empty and incomplete. The last one of Snoof has a trippy head dwarfing the rest of his bony body frame which does not help the fact his feet do very little when it comes to standing as they make him rock the same way as the vintage wooden horse toy. Well of all the crazy critters I have put together up to this point, I am compelled to state this trio are possible some of my least favorites especially compared to the prior Frosticons. Now there are a few spots of intriguing techniques about however they simply do not feel near solid as they could be perhaps. It is strange since looking at the drawing that was the base for each ones' design is good yet they did not quite translate over into the physical form well it seems.

Glad they are sold out. Target had these on clearance a few months back for $9.98. Glad I bought 3.

Doesnt feel as well designed as the v-day and easter sets. did LEGO lose a bunch of key designers recently or something? overall it does have some add on value with scooby, cmf 14 and other sets, but on its own it just seems akward.

Is everybody on vacation or did almost no one buy this set in Europe? There are only a few offered on Ebay Germany. If this stays this way it will be a definite winner!

Everyone remember this set I bought of off Goodwill couple weeks back? A couple of you ask how it went. It finally arrived today. Oh, Huskers...you may be more right than you know. So, guess what happened? They sent the wrong order. Here's my auction (35 lbs) And here an auction for 31 lbs that ended at the exact same time. If you look over the bid history, you can see the guy who won the 31 lbs bid on my auction, too. He may be well aware what might be in my lot. So, now it's a waiting game. What will Goodwill say? (I fired off an email tonight). Will the other guy realize the mistake, and be honest, and do a swap (at their cost, of course)? Or, will he conveniently be quiet on the subject? I've got to admit the lot he got is pretty darn good. I sorted through it tonight (with some help from California92563) - next time I'm live streaming it on Periscope for all of you. We found a few Indiana Jones sets, Egypt, old Adventurers, Mars Mission, Alpha Team, 90s Underwater, old Harry Potter. It's definitely a "win" of a lot! Fantastic deal for $111 for 31 lbs of bulk. I'll keep everyone updated...

You're missing the point. The issue (at least MY issue) is you implying everyone else is wrong if they're not doing what you're doing...and that's patently false. I'm not mad about it, but we're all here voluntarily...we could at least try to get along.
