  3. We now have a full set and building begins tomorrow. I asked the kiddo to clear the table and he kept bugging me to get started before he went to bed. Boxes are still sealed, but he already has an order picked out and is insisting on building the Mystery Machine and Mansion in tandem tomorrow evening. I guess he forgot the carnival is this weekend, so I'm sure we'll take a break for that and yard work.

  6. But when will it retire? I wouldn't be surprised if I retire before the Death Star.
    3 points
  7. The Death Star will be $1000 or so within a year after it retires, about 75% of guys on here said it would take years for the SSD to reach $700 or so, so if you don't want to make the same mistake on the DS, be sure you get as many as you can. Ed

  10. Space for built models is also an issue around here. I can't say I find the Sandcrawler to be an amazing display piece but I have heard that the build is excellent, so maybe one day I will.

  15. This is just IMO, but I've been thinking about this for awhile since the Simpsons House TOOS w/message and given the latest Ewok Village TOOS w/January message. It's possible Lego is going to a rotating production schedule with existing sets. Meaning, Simpsons House will be produced for X amount of months and when inventory from Shop at Home sells out, it is gone from there until they resume production for September. Why it's not gone yet from Target, Amazon, Wal Mart etc... is still a question other than maybe it is a set that is not a good seller. The same could be said for Ewok Village. Retirement could be delayed for many sets if a rotating schedule is planned.

  16. I'm really not sure how to read this January "business." Will they make more? Will it just vanish? Are they trying to suppress the secondary market through the holiday with this message? Are the Ewoks really just highly evolved tribbles? I can't answer any of these questions without firm shipping dates and less #CHAOS.

  17. *update* I got to digging around in the General Buying and Selling Forum and came up with this bit of info from justafrog: "2. If the package is "lost in space" (no recent scans to tell you where it is), you can get the current tracking at USPS.com and ASK FOR EMAIL UPDATES (there's a box to click). You can ask for updates just to you, or to you and your customer. I don't know if I've just been lucky, but EVERY time I've had a package that the post office just vanishes in a puff of smoke and is stalled on tracking somewhere for days and days and have used this service, the package miraculously re-enters the flow of packages within a few days. Like I said, could be luck, or maybe they have to explain "never arrived" packages in some kind of internal auditing that this track-trace function generates." So I gave this a try yesterday afternoon, and sure enough, I get an e-mail about 8 hours later. It's moved on the tracking page with a delayed status, but on its way to the customer. I never would have thought of this, and it's a great little tip that I want to pass on. Thanks to all who replied, and a big thanks to justafrog.

  18. A typical day on BP 2015: superlegofanresseler3476: EV is crap. Ewoks were to the OT as what Jar Jar was to the prequels. Nobody likes them. And who wants a set that's nothing but a bunch of trees? Really LEGO? Trees?! Plus, if you check the stock tracker in Europe you'll see that they have plenty on hand. Probably enough to last 12 months at least. I've been tracking the sales of this one along with a dozen other sets every day and I can tell you that EV is the worst selling exclusive released since 2013 with more than 1,750 elements and less than 18 minifigures. Total crap. I've also been watching Amazon and this is never selling for more than $290 Prime so if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know than I don't know what you're doing in this game. I'm not getting any of these for my own collection or to flip. There are so many other better sets to put my money in right now. superlegofanresseler3476: OMG!!!1!!1!! It's gone?! Damn, I'm going to take the day off work today and hit all the LEGO stores I can. I've got two in my state plus the neighboring states, hopefully I can pick up about 23 by the time the day is over. I'm going to bring my nephew and his friend along. They'll do anything for Hot Dog On A Stick. Anyway, I love this set and it's going to be huge this Christmas. You all know The Force Awakens is coming out, right? It doesn't get any bigger than that. This is like the perfect storm of LEGO flipping. Where's George Clooney? Oh but just in case I'm not able to get any, if anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it. I really need to have one for sure, I can't wait to have this displayed with my Sideshow Scout Trooper.

  21. Just wanted to say thanks for building all this stuff. I have been visiting Brick Classifieds on a daily basis and there is always a lot of good stuff getting listed on there. Just wanted to say that I really dig the Lastest Listings (http://www.brickclassifieds.com/latest-listings) link you added that allows you to keep scrolling through all the items posted on the site. Makes it much easier to see all the stuff there

  22. So I went ahead and created my own labels for parts storage using PowerPoint, mostly using the graphics from Bricklink. They are pretty basic and not nearly as nice as the ones I've seen from Tom Alphin, but at least I can print them out without a special printer. I thought I'd share them here on the off chance someone else might find them useful. There are currently about 500 distinct labels (each should be about 0.5" x 1"). My next project will be to organize them into the exact spaces I will be using on my storage system. I have 5 of the Acro-Mils 44 drawer cabinets (less than $25/each on Jet right now) and a ton of shoebox sized plastic boxes for the more common parts. If anyone is interested, I'll post my final configuration when I get that far... Lego Labels v1.pptx

  23. SSD wasn't around for 7 years, either. I'm sure the set will do fine, I will never call it a dud, but it's old news. You also know there will be a remake of some kind in the future, it's too iconic for that to not happen. Whether it be like 10143 or 10188 or a mix of both, it will happen. I have mine, hope they do well.

  24. Not all that great. The inventory may be correct at times, but actually finding them can sometimes be rough. They might be in the back, or in some obscure spot you'd never think to look. My rule of thumb is if the product says "Limited stock available" or w/e, it's likely stock that's lost in the store somewhere and not worth my time. If it says "in stock at location" then chances are they have more than 2-3 of them and they should be easy to find.

  25. You may be right; however, I don't think it has the same collectable factor like the SSD. It is more of a play set rather than a collectable set. Time will tell

  27. Ain't that the truth. I've long since learned to "control what I can control" and leave the rest. I might not have as much capital, storage space, or time to hunt for bargains as some on here, but I can be patient. That last line? That's the real value of things like youth sports. I"m glad my sons have learned how to lose--some seasons quite a lot --but it will pay them well in the future. DS will have its time.

  31. Ed, Let them do whatever they want. 10188 isn't a 2-6 week flip. Could be a 6-12 month hold if a newer version comes out though (for a nice profit as we saw what the panic "pop" will look like- jumped to over $500 in 3 days). Veteran members and investors already gave solid advice, Patience is a virtue and learned the hard way (usually after kids, with age or hands-on experience ).

  32. Has anyone taken advantage of the TRU 20% off sale? Finished work early, and drove 17km to one of the only two TRU in Bris. I got 2 Ectos. Since TRU are bastards who usually charge 10 bucks over retail on this set I paid 63.99 each. The price of the fuel there and back would of negated any savings. I did get to have a bit of driving fun in my old school WRX though There's a DJs there too. I must have been 10 minutes too late ( i should have gone there before TRU) as they had 2 boxes of pretty fresh S13 and I arrived just in time to see a slovenly middle-aged Asian bloke walk away with 10 of them. He even told me not to bother looking, as he had felt up all the good ones. Bloody reseller scum! He then proceeded to buy all the Ulupatu (or whatever they are called) troopers battle packs on the shelf. It's my first time to see this type of creature in its natural habitat.

  34. If someone had told me two years ago that Ninja Turtles and Scooby Doo would be released in the next two years, and that Turtles had a big movie and a new Nickelodeon cartoon released during that time, I would have given odds that Ninja Turtles would be far more popular. That said, it sure looks like ol' Scoob is getting more love. Perhaps it's recency bias working against me, but I would be willing to wager that Scooby will have a bigger launch than either of the Turtles lines.

  37. These showed up at my local walmart, but they are already picked over. The only thing I found was a Mummy Museum, which had 5. There was 1 haunted lighthouse left that was already beat to heck and back so I left it and will wait until I find a nicer box, and 0 of the others. I would have at least picked up two of the mystery machines if it wasn't for those meddling kids! Ohh well tomorrow is another day. My little boy just built the mummy set, and it's a pretty cool and quirky set. Scooby Doo is a bit smaller than I thought he would be, but overall I like the look and cartoonish characterization of shaggy and the mummy. These sets are gonna be winners in all forms, I tell ya'.

  42. It is small in the checklist picture but over the Lumberjack Werewolf's right shoulder you can spot a bit of tail. Awesome. I wish the angle for the Zombie Pirate was different for his blade at least because I can't tell if it may be a new sword or just a classic one. Another blade for the arsenal is always great. The wailing Banshee's hair is a new 'do I am eager to see in person. Rockenstein's sweet guitar with some bat art makes me really want to come up with a type of guitar/music store modular house even more. I'm hoping for some "Messing with Sasquatch" LEGO clips to pop up on YouTube after this Sasquatch minifigure hits shelves. Those are hilarious. Also I spot a tiny fly print on the Mad Scientist's flask which goes well with the other Fly in the line who has a claw hand very much like Zoidberg. Let's see, Series 13 Alien Trooper with a squid head, now a Fly with a claw hand. Hmm.... Most would say try eBay in particular a seller called Minifigures Plus.

  46. I have missed you people. Been freakishly busy, which is great, but I need dawdling time, darn it! Update on us for my friends here - we're done with books! Yay! The last of the donations are out the door and the inventory space is all LEGO and room for expanding LEGO. We're pretty much a non-presence on eBay these days, which is a total sea-change for us. We'll continue to use the eBay account for some clearance with our 20 free/month, but to be out of that Cassini search nightmare and the twice-yearly hoop-jumping sellers changes is an amazing weight off. Two years ago (yes, it's only been that long!) when I wandered onto this site to say, "Hey, guyz, wut's going on in this thread?" I knew nothing about selling LEGO. Today, it's our family's entire income. So much growth yet to do, but it's all exciting, and every time I get a little frustrated with this problem at BrickLink or that problem at Brick Owl, I have to stop and laugh at myself. It could be WAY worse, like... on eBay! I did have a surreal eBay-like experience on Brick Owl the other day, customer contacted me and asked if he placed $100 or more in his order could he have 50% off and free shipping. I don't know why he didn't ask for one of my daughters, too, must have been an oversight. Anyways, popped into this thread since the topic is nearest and dearest to me these days to catch up, hope to be around a little more often! We did go through a few iterations until we settled on our current one. This photo is from right after we upgraded to "real" inventory boxes (rather than recycled, added our pulling carts, etc. Works like clockwork, four of us can work together in the space now filing parts, pulling parts, counting and packing parts. We still do our shipping and parting out at home, someday we'll buy a house that can incorporate the entire business (first choice) or lease a little commercial/light industrial space (second choice) but this does well for us at our current income/size.

  47. Honestly, when sellers pull this crap, I leave their store. I don't care if they have lower prices, I don't care if they're one of the few that have the part I need. When they make it overly complicated, I just don't feel like figuring it out and I move on. My store is easy - you buy and that's it. Maybe it's because I don't have 100K+ in parts, but I just can't get behind all that confusion.
