  1. This was from the tub I bought last weekend. Took forever to find all the pieces in the tub but I finally finished it tonight. It was worth it, much cooler than I expected. I ordered a manual off bricklink to make it easier to sell but I kind of want to keep it now
  2. stop Raptor time...
  3. that was me. Thanks for the fast shipping and quality packaging. I finally decided to finish my Lone Ranger collection. I was too late in getting back in to Lego to buy these all at the nice clearance prices.

Now they are just messin with us Man!! I looked on there a minute ago, and it said "Still Sold Out". And right after that: "Nah, just kidding." And finally: "Got your nose."
  5. I've seen this bit posted a few times about licenses on the license for individual sets within a licensed theme. I highly doubt there are license agreements for every set within a line. I would imagine that as long as TLG has the license to a produce sets for Star Wars, they have the ability to decide how long they are going to produce a particular set. Otherwise it would have gone something like, " Hey, George, it's Mark over at LEGO. Yea, about that UCS B-wing, it sucks. Do you mind if we pull the plug a little early on that one?"
  6. The best way to eat it in front of the computer or if you're on the go.
  7. And that's the key. As long as you follow an strategy with the sets you like (say, I'll buy 5 TOO by the time it reaches 2 years on the shelves or whatever), retirement talk shouldn't matter too much. The idea is to have your target amount before the thing goes, and once you really believe it is about to be retired, make the decision to try and get more if you can. The difference is that once you reach your target goal, whether you get more or not shouldn't matter. Buying more would be a positive, but failing to would not be a disaster. As with any investment, you can make tactical deviations from these. If you believe RE will be very unique or whatever, then buy some and be comfortable with the risk. I'm not the first to say this by any stretch of the imagination, but it's good to bring it up every so often.
  8. The motherload. These 10 have been lingering for about 2 weeks now.
  9. I couldn't resist opening one and building it (I ordered two) and it is a great little build - the stand for the plane is awesome! Lots of stickers but very unique.
  10. So... I can never fly Lufthansa. If my kid got one of those, I'd have to make a deal with him... "Do you really want to open that?... I'll give you an Ezra's Speeder Bike when we get back from vacation, if you just give that to me now..."
  11. My wife's brother and his family have lived in Poland for the last 7 years. They are currently visiting and staying with us while they are here. Their flight was Lufthansa from Germany, which handed this poly out to the kids on board. Before I knew my niece had this, I've been building Lego with her, and gave her a 30188 Cute Kitten, and a 30285 Tiger to take home. She then surprised me with the Lufthansa bag as a gift. Lego is always the best universal gift to give.
  12. Or maybe the brick separator is retired?
  13. Built the Shuttle Tydirium last week, and it's now my new favorite non-exclusive Star Wars kit. All it needed was a stand, so I bricklinked the parts I needed so the stand is as new and shiny as the rest of it. Beautiful kit for those of you (like me) who do not have the UCS version.
  14. Didn't we collectively decide that TMNT was an investment flop.......someone didn't get that memo I guess?
  15. Well now I want one. ;-)

So.. you know. Thought I'd build it and make a little scene

Indeed. I still have the originals in those big boxes PC games used to come in. I shall try to find more of the little guys then.

I think all the 2014 sets are going to fare well. My personal ranking of the sets for investments are as follows: #1 The Cave- enormously popular set. Lead off set for the minifigure theme. I just saw a kid walking out of walmart with one today. These are almost never on shelves. I always take note when I see actual end users buying stuff. On sale right now at 25% off at many retailers, use GC and rewards to boost your discount. I have 50 The Caves and would love to have another 50. I am optimistic giving the continuing growth of minecraft that this set will get to $75-80 within 15 months of EOL and possibly even quicker than that just because of inherent demand. Because of competition at this price point with the new set, part me thinks this is done soon. still, The Cave is so popular its almost stupid to kill it too quick. i think when the first wave does get retired, this will be one of the first to disappear. #2 Crafting Box - 8 different builds. great reviews @ shop at home. seems like it will be a must have and the type of set that people might want multiple copies of post EOL. see this easily getting to $100-120 within a year of EOL. i try to have 1 of these for every 4-5 caves. Not sure that this one is going anywhere anytime soon - price point is unique and seems like it could be around for another year my gut tells me. #3 The Mine - flagship largest set. hard to know how well it will do but if it retires early 2.5x MSRP is not an unreasonable goal but I would have at least 15 Caves for everyone 1 Mine. this one has mediocre demand because of its price and is in stock everywhere even with discounts. i don't think this one is going anywhere anytime soon. no replacement on the horizon. #4 #5The Farm and The First Night - both of these sets are about equal in my mind - I would have 1 of each for every 5 caves I have. I'm not sure which of these will get the axe but there are similar piece count/price point sets in the 2015 wave coming out so wouldn't be shocked that these get the axe. probably these will have slightly better medium term performance compared to the Mine, especially if the Mine lingers. 3-5 are about the same prospects to me - they will do well post EOL. #6 Ender Dragon - this is the real standout loser of the series. you could still get this set all throughout the holiday season last year at msrp. its been discounted throughout its life and still is a sales loser if you look at the brickpicker stats. I would not touch this set for anything more than $35-40. you can take the contrarian play but past performance and demand predicts this will be the loser of the first wave. your better off putting your money in more Caves than this set.

  21. Good-bye ToO it was nice knowing you. Even the Lord of the Rings is one from the Theme selection on SAH.
  22. so they also suckered you into this set? I also picked up 3 more using $20 in VIPs. Ha I know the Raptor molds costly to make but $40 for this set is insane. So small. Think about it...for another $10 more, you get the Raptor Rampage (2 raptors including Blue, 2 main movie chars, bike, etc...). That is one of the reasons I'm not buying many of this set. Currently, I think resellers are the main reason for the spike in-demand and we might be stuck with these sets 2 years down the road because resellers won't be wanting more (ala Orc Forge and most other recent Walmart / target exlucives)
  23. I know someone looking for one if you don't have the space
  24. Guest
Actually no. Sometime it gets mixed into the regular stock and a worker unknowingly puts them out. I remember with other promos such as Elrond, Lego would send them in a separate shipment with specific instructions. Not the case I guess with regular polybags. Anything left over of course will eventually make it out onto the shelf. Nice set and packaging though, I like getting the licensed themes that contain a minifigure
  25. We're doing the dance.
  26. It was hard to resist. I backed out of the final checkout twice before I committed.
  27. I snapped up the last one.
  28. Decent day buying today....all items on great clearance prices! Couldn't pass on any of it -- did pass on all the FRIENDS series and elves stuff - don't know anything about - all 50% off. AT-AT, picked up 12. Some turtles, tons of Cantina's (18 total) and Batman joker steam roller sets (I think 28 total) and some other low end junk.
  29. I had to buy a snicker bar, a PAYDAY bar and a pack of gum so I could disguise my 17 RE on the belt. I proly lost money on the trip.
  30. Brickset shows $349.99 for Canada, $299.99 for US
  31. I see you forgot to factor in the saturated fat in that snickers bar which is gonna raise cholesterol and expenses even more with doctor copay, prescriptions, and lesser quality of life. These lego shopping trips are just plain tearing you up financially and medically:)
  32. I definitely agree with holding on to these. I know Amazon fees are better because I can ship a box of 20 of these to Amazon FBA for $8. That's .40 for shipping. That is the big difference between Amazon and eBay. I don't factor gas and all that because it is fun. It is definitely a gamble to sell now or wait it out but either way they will be worth it.
  33. Got 2 for 582 taxes in... Actually got to leverage that free prime membership! I wonder how many they got left...
  34. Sold: - 8486 Cars Mack's Team Truck 90 euro. - 9492 Tie Fighter 75 euro. - 9493 X-Wing 95 euro - 70728 Battle for Ninjago City 125 euro. All cold hard cash.
  35. Got this from ebay today. Am really surprised to see the pilot minifigure torso is actually a sticker and not printed - is that common? Regardless I love this polybag. When I was a kid my family lived in Europe and we flew Lufthansa often and I remember loving the long plane rides from California and they always gave my younger brother and I cool toys and flying kits.

Just went to a TRU here in Edmonton and found about 20 Joker Bumper Car polybags. $5.99 each.
  37. this is a different set but has the same white banding and barcode etc. Like here, its not on all bags.
  38. Looks like there are close to 100 sellers on amazon for this set... It's going to be a while before this one does anything, I think. But this is the first exclusive of the year that I think is officially "retired", because once they removed the Lord of the Rings link from their site, that was a telling sign that it is not coming back, and I suspect it will get a retirement tag soon. This set did have a nice slow phaseout though, but it will be interesting to see how many resellers are still on ebay and amazon by years end. If there are still 80 or more, then I think it's going to be one of those sets to stash deep in the closet. Personally, I think this is the coolest set lego has done and by far one of my absolute favorite sets made.
  39. My guess is that it is a question of production capacity. At the end of the day, TLG has a finite capacity to manufacture bricks and sets. Without looking at any numbers, it seems to me like TLG has been pumping out a lot more new sets and new themes over the past few years than it has in the past (e.g., the Classic line of sets, the four great vehicle City sets last year, etc.), and each of those sets and themes must lay claim to some percentage of that finite manufacturing capacity. Unless TLG has a lot of excess manufacturing capacity, the smartest play that they can make is to allocate the available capacity to the sets and themes that prove to be most profitable. Even though 10188 may be a good seller and may still be a profitable set, the ultimate question is whether it is sufficiently profitable when compared to other sets/themes to justify the manufacturing and distribution capacity that it requires to place the set into the hands of retailers. I would suspect that there are going to be a lot of retirements over the next 3-6 months simply because of the manufacturing capacity that TLG is going to be allocating to the new Star Wars sets.

Last year I got a lot that had an emerald night, QAR, BP, shuttle expedition, 90% of a Grand Carousel, and 150 pounds of assorted bulk for $50. I find lots like that (minus GC) several times a year.
  41. Built the F40 last night. I know that it appears many here dislike it but it is a very nicely thought out build. Lots of clever use of clips to connect panels and pieces and building in multiple directions; made me think of paneling techniques used in the Blue Power set's jet. The air ducts on the hood are cleverly designed - they are clipped on to a horizontal bar inside the section after being built inwards facing each other
  42. What do all these young kids call it, TBT. 6195 Neptune Discovery Lab (picked up for $30US)
  43. your user name is cracking me up. Now where is D-Nice?!
  44. Local Walmart had 5 SW Cantina's on the shelf for $49 and I asked if they had anymore - manager came out - showed me how many they had left. I bought all 20. Told me there is 14 more at the Walmart across town, i'll stop there on my way to work in AM. 2 quick pics. Pics are of the box ones, loose ones still in back of truck.

  47. Oh no worries, I realize it won't be easy to keep it. I'll be taking a 7+ month hiatus from selling anything this coming Christmas. I have a good number of ripened Star Wars sets I hope to sell this fall so even a 20% savings on fees will be worth it. This is the first time I've ever found a worthwhile stash of polys at my local TRUs so I'm just having a little fun too. I averaged it to $5 profit per, $240 = 48 polybags. I think I ended up with 51 but I'm keeping 2 for myself and I gave one away. It's not a ton of money for the effort but what the hell, it's more fun than my day job right now.
  48. When did these "figurines" become role models for girls? True story: I love that my daughter loves Legos: wholesome family entertainment, well-done and based on classic Disney stories. The "Friends" and Disney lines are brilliant. As a Father, I will gladly shell out the dollars for my kids to have Lego's wholesome, fun, and well-done Friends and Disney line. It will be a cold day in Hell before Mattel's new "dolls" are allowed in my home. Just look at the photo above to get my point: there is nothing there I hope my children aspire to.
