What he said was totally fair and 100% accurate.......whoever thinks resellers are not their own worst enemy needs a wake up call. And it doesn't help the brick show guys announced the 101188 retirement on no basis whatsoever..........that made my head hurt.

I find it funny the phenomena of you resellers lately. The sheer amount of panicking every time something switches status on Lego and it's like everyone practically pees their pants. It's been almost 2 years since I've been on this site, and even back then, I never noticed soo much panic before. At least not to this level. I honestly believe you guys are your own worst enemy. It's your own self-fulfilled prophecy all coming true. And Lego has straight up been trolling you guys like a champ. (Whether or not it's their true goal is hard to tell, but I like to think so.)

It is done, very repetitive but this has to be the most magnificent set ever. Its great!

^ This...I am glad that you made mention of this type of action. For the past few years I would take Lego on sale/clearance and would drop off to the Children's Hospital here in town. However, I would always take my children along and make them deliver it with me. I would then remind them " that if they think they were having a bad day, just remember that some of these kids won't be going home for Christmas"... It has always been a good learning experience for my kids, humbling for me and the hospital gets a kick out of all the Lego. Not trying to toot my horn or to apply pressure to others, but I wish more people took this approach. Spot on, sir.

In real terms, if LEGO went after secondary sales, their primary sales would suffer. Here is an excellent article on the sneaker giant, Nike. LOL - I'm about to do the same thing. After I get done cleaning up the remaining 2 Walmarts for which I've received "c'mon git her" emails, I'm going over to LEGO store and snag a few. I brought my special disguise so that they won't know I'm the same guy buying RE.

I thought about this... Probably the message that they will make more is not aimed at us investors and resellers. It is aimed at the ordinary customer who missed the boat. It is simply saying: "Do not go out and buy this product for inflated prices from reseller scum on ebay and/or other platforms. We are making more. Just be patient and do not panic". edit: Also aimed at Darin.

The Grand Hotel looks flippin' sweet. My daughters will have one someday. Out of principle, I won't be buying them any Pop Star stuff. We get enough "how cool is it to be a celebrity" ram-rodded down our throat as it is in America. Unfortunate to see Lego jumping on.

Local Walmart had 5 SW Cantina's on the shelf for $49 and I asked if they had anymore - manager came out - showed me how many they had left. I bought all 20. Told me there is 14 more at the Walmart across town, i'll stop there on my way to work in AM. 2 quick pics. Pics are of the box ones, loose ones still in back of truck.

Built the F40 today, as other reviews have stated there are some really interesting building techniques and I really enjoyed putting this together. I think it looks pretty cool as well.

So, Jet.com is known for dropshipping packages, and Kmart is known for dropkicking their's. Every company has got to have a gimmick to stand out.

That brings me to something I saw recently. I was in a store, and a grandmother was there with her grandson, and he was obviously there for his birthday, and they were hunting for a gift. He wanted some ninjago set, but it was 90.00 and the grandmother kind of looked at it and freaked and said, "we can't do that one that's 90.00", but that's what he wanted. I had all the coupons and probably could have got the set down to 55.00, and I seriously considered walking up to her and telling her all about Truth magic, and using gift cards, and offer to split the cost so he could buy his set... but I decided to just bite my tongue and not make a scene because there were a few others around.. but to this moment, I actually regret not doing that. Regardless, this christmas season, I definitely will consider giving some ep7, scooby, and maybe a few JW sets to give to the childrens hospital and lower income kids.. I was onboard for the LM and BOT5A sets going early too. I was convinced what we are seeing with JW was going to happen with those sets. The difference is that they probably would go like JW, if they were as popular since I don't think any of them were produced in great numbers. But they haven't blown out that fast, and that's why they are still relatively easy to get. I'm sitting on quite a few LM's, and WKbattles at the moment, and I was almost sure that they would have been hard to find by now, but they are still around. Although, they have started to sell out in Europe, and are also dwindling here in the states, but it's your typical slow phaseout, because demand isn't as hot as it is with JW. But that's another movie based theme where they seemed to produce a limited amount and only saw a limited release.

Well, I agree and disagree. I agree with your last statement completely. I'm certainly happy that there is a lifecycle to their sets. I think overall, though, it does allow them to feel fresh and feel like there is a constant turn over in product. That feel as if they are constantly innovating. That's good for consumer confidence. However, I disagree that LEGO doesn't care about retired sets. You back it up with your numbers. Look at all that money going through eBay on LEGO sales. None of those sales are going to LEGO themselves. That's money that people could be spending on new product, direct from LEGO (or their authorized resellers) but isn't. Wouldn't LEGO enjoy having another $40M in sales coming direct to them? The counter to that might be "but they've already made money on those sets!" and yes I would agree on that. But, that's $40M that's not being spent on NEW sets that they've got on sale today.

I completely agree. I would just like to add that I enjoy good thought provoking movies. I enjoy my mindless dribble movies as well for the sheer entertainment value. There's good and of course bad escapes. I find the news cycle to just be depressing.

I can honestly see lego prolonging exclusives and the larger sets, simply because they are money makers, and in the end it makes sense. Those don't require the sheer amount of distribution like your average run of smaller sets. So, they can continue to produce another 5000 death stars, ship them out to their channels, then they slowly phase out, then rinse and repeat. Until they finally bring on the new Death Star next year, and then of course it will retire, but a new one will be out that will probably be 80% close to the original, just like the new MF, and new X-wing (ohhh they changed the colors from white to black, my bad). So, i'm going to continue with the "I think the Death Star is a mediocre investment" mantra. I know i've annoyed enough people already saying that, but that's been my gut feeling all along. I don't even think this set topped 600 yet on amazon or ebay, and if this comes back, it will be back to 500 in no time flat, making it pointless as an investment until it does retire, and so if people aren't willing to commit to death stars for at least 4 to 5 years to make some decent returns, then don't buy it, and definitely always question the hoard/herd mentality that can permeate on this site.

The SSD was oos for at least a month last year. It came back for a couple days for one last blast and poofed for good. Hopefully that's what we are seeing here.

Imo, if this glitch is true, it's an uptick for those who has the money and time. Those that can last will reap the rewards. It's a way to phase out some players. And I'm sure many are dropping out. You guys want to keep buying and storing them away, well just keep making more. Either you will start to run out of money and patience or we will run out of plastic.

Regardless of production run length, I still feel that exclusives are the safer play, as long as you are willing to adopt the "set it and forget it" mentality. Those looking for the rush of the quick sell for a few bucks profit probably will get bored.

If you want to see a true cluster "F" watch the making of Episode 1 documentary. I watched it last night from the Amazon digital collection. They had a really good kid competing with Jake Lloyd and their decision to hire Lloyd was a huge mistake. Lucas is complimenting the actors and says "We have learned about Jake" not in a positive way. Look at the way Jake's 5 agents all pose around him and talk down to him, it's pathetic. Then he shows spielberg the battle droid and says "this is the next stormtrooper." Everything about those battle droids sucked, when they die on the battlefield nobody cares. When I was growing up, we all thought "Clone wars" was going to be a fight between awesome Jedis and a bunch of bounty hunters that looked like Boba Fett or cloned jedis, something interesting. Watching sterile white clones of jango fett fight boring robots was the worst possible interpretation of the clone wars I could imagine. Also in the doc, Lucas states that the whole movie hinges on Jar Jar. "If we can make Jar Jar work, we have a great film." This was a wealthy, middle aged man who hadn't done anything creative in decades with nobody to disagree with him or edit his terrible drafts. And I'm not saying middle aged men can't be creative - look at John Lassiter. Thank goodness he sold it to Disney. What they come out with this December can not possibly be worse than what Lucas would have done.

A local mom and pop toy/game shop just relocated and I thought I'd share a couple of pics. It's too bad their retail lego section is meh. They did have an in box 10129 Snowspeeder for $900 in their used/resale section. <greg: not sure why that last one won't embed...grr>
