  1. After setting up my Kwik-E-Mart and Simpsons house for display I decided I wanted to do something to display the 2 series of Simpsons CMF alongside them. This kind of design could be used for any set of CMF really as the 16 figs display on each section in front of the poly bag. Here's some shots: The 2 sections are hinged together and can be separated to display on different angles like this: Each figure sits on a 1x2 plate, so they stay put nicely. Nothing too difficult in the build, I stuffed around with different ways for attaching the CMF bag backgrounds and in the end decided to simply have the 4 edges jammed between 1 stud depth bricks. It's pretty tight so holds them nicely without glue or tape. A fun little project. Took a lot more bricks than I thought and I pretty much ran out and had to scrape by with smaller bricks for the last bits of the wall.

  4. Hehe. I saw how someone on YouTube called you out on that. I just watched this for the third time last night with my boys. Wanted to show my 8 yr old an excellent stop motion video! Speaking of. For all you BPers that aren't subscribed to All New Bricks videos you are really missing out. They are great! Get on it! ufema I love the "draw" action that you do with weapons now.

  6. the panic seller-induced breakdown in the 7965 market over the last day (and coming days) has been pretty spectacular, exposing yet another facet of the brickpicker reseller hoard effect when lots of people decide to sell all at once - no matter the price. race to the bottom might have us testing 150- bin & auctions are ending/selling for 170-180. two days ago they were selling for 240-260. we don't even have a picture yet. just a name and a few numbers. glad i sold in may and went away. i might have to get back in and pick up a few if the get down to msrp. even 7965 will have a dead cat bounce.

  7. I sold all of my 7965's, doubled my money after fees. I'm happy with that, even if it goes up in price later on. I have very little storage room, and it's only getting smaller as my kids acquire more junk. My rule of thumb is to dump when I can double my cash. Of course, there are some special sets that I will hold onto longer, but 7965 isn't one of them. Unlike a lot of people, I do like the set. I think in terms of design, they did the best they could given piece and price constraints. If anything, it provides a nice base to start modding one, which I might do at some point. The new one comes in with a similar price and piece count, I don't see it being too different from 7965 from a design perspective.

  14. Previous Falcons that were similar in size to the 7965 were very average, if not below average performers after EOL. In the article I did for BLOCKS magazine, I took a look at all the previous Falcon versions and their returns and was not impressed. If you check out the chart below (data is several months old), you will see what I am talking about... MILLENNIUM FALCON LEGO SETS Set Number & Type Year Pieces MSRP $ Current $ ROI % 7190 (Regular Scale) 2000 683 99.99 303.00 203 4488 (Mini Scale) 2003 87 6.99 33.00 375 4504 (Regular Scale) 2004 985 99.99 211.00 111 10179 (UCS) 2007 5195 499.99 3359.00 571 7778 (Midi Scale) 2009 356 39.99 90.00 126 7965 (Regular Scale) 2011 1254 139.99 207.00 47 75030 (Microfighter) 2014 94 9.99 13.00 32 I think maybe the converstaion should be whether or not this set is a good investment at all, not whether you should sell it now or keep it for 10 years. The newest version might be the best investment choice besides the 10179, but until something comes close to the Big Daddy of LEGO sets, these smaller Falcons will always be the ugly ducklings of the STAR WARS sets in my opinion.

  15. I still have 15 of the Falcon 7965 and will be holding on to them, I see no reason why these will not increase in price, it could explode in Dec, but sooner or later they will, there will be millions of new Lego Star Wars investors and fans with the new movies coming out, so don't panic sell just hold on to them and they will do OK. 17. It's interesting watching everyone just dump their stuff over jitters and speculation. The market is obviously not as strictly controlled by supply and demand, but jitters of "inverstors" not willing to wait. Ahh this is like just about everything, it seems, whether it's real estate or stocks. Personally, I look at collectibles as something with long term strategy. There is no doubt in my mind that this set will increase back up to 250 or higher in the near future. It might just take holding it until 2017. With each set that is dumped, and then opened, that's one less pristine box out in the wild. As more sets are opened, the less sets there will be that are sealed and mint. Over time, those that hold the sets in pristine boxes will benefit. Just look at Indiana Jones/Harry Potter as a prime example of this. Mint and sealed sets from these two lines go for a premium compared to used sets. As time goes on, there are less mint boxes out there, so, this benefits the long termers willing to wait out the jitters. I personally, think holding sets long term is the way to go. Granted, if you stocked 20 or more of these and just made 100 on each set, then that isn't a bad strategy either. But the people that are now "dumping theirs RIGHT NOW" are going to be caught in a mosh for the next few months, but once that phase plays out, sets that are still unopened and mint in the box will still perform well in a few more years.

  19. I have been dropping hints for a two months about the new Falcon being a mid sized 7965 clone since I was told what the new price of the set was, so people need to pay attention to some of the subtlest things I mention at times. Even last week, before the partial list of new STAR WARS sets was released to confirm my source, I told everyone a new Falcon was coming and it was not a UCS set. Those who payed attention unloaded their 7965s, others, well, it's too late. Time to hold on long term.

  24. I see 7965 increasing well in value, especially since it is from the Original Trilogy. I think that will be key. Even if the new Lego Falcon is superior in looks and functions there are too many Star Wars fans that will still have their strongest ties to the OT despite the release of EP7. And of the OT Falcons Lego has produced (except for the UCS Falcon), 7965 is superior in looks and it displays the best. Yes, the new Falcon will overshadow 7965, but I believe it will be merely temporary. I think it would be a good idea to stash a couple of 7965's for a while until we ride out the EP7 hype. You just can't go wrong with one of the most iconic ships from the OT. Plus, I can see the new trilogy creating more interest in the OT, and since the OT it is just that--the original--the demand for OT iconic ships will only increase. In the end, I think it just boils down to the extremely large following the OT has created and I don't see the new trilogy of Star Wars movies adversely affecting that following. The OT's fan-base will only continue to grow.

  25. It was posted in the retirement thread along with the other 100 or so sets. People instantly moved to another set that Lego should have retired, or will retire, or will not, yada yada yada.

  31. It´s also the time when most people buy. I have developed an unhealthy obsession with comparing new Lego listings with sold items every day and for most of the year the former outnumber the latter by a huge amount. Nov-Dec is when things change and some days there are more sales than new listings.

  32. Look at 7190's sales rate. This isn't the stock market--meaning I can't simply tell my broker to sell and it's gone.

  33. they are listed at a premium, how much liquidity is there compared to 7965 sales? just because you hold onto something for 10 years and its worth 5 times the price you paid for it, it does not mean its a better investment than holding it for 1 year and doubling it.

  38. 4 x 60095 Deep Sea Exploration Vessels from TRU for $85.44 each after 25% coupon, 10% TRUTH discount, and 5.5% sales tax. Equates to 33% off. If you haven't seen this set in person yet it is pretty sweet, and has very good quick flip potential for the upcoming holiday season. My goal is to get at least ten of these for Christmas, and restock for the long haul next spring. Question...has anyone seen this set anywhere other than TRU or The Lego Shop? I have only seen it at TRU in my area. I checked brickset to see if it is a TRU exclusive but it didn't say that it was. If it is then that should really help the quick flip potential, possibly outdoing the Arctic Icebreaker's performance from this past holiday season. Has anyone seen this set at a Target or WalMart?

  41. Why are you worried? here's some comments made earlier about LEGO DELOREAN in that thread - Delorean is doing better than average at more than 2x MSRP on amazon and ebay 6 months post EOL. Delorean was discounted a long time and is cheaper. Both of these things lend it to being more hoarded. Ecto has never been discounted and costs more so might be less hoarded. I am expecting even better performance from ecto than the delorean. The day ECTO goes out of stock, the price on ebay will be $75 just to cover fees and shipping and will go up quickly from there. This set is targeted right at AFOL's with money. I don't expect this to go out of stock until December at the earliest and probably more like February based on Delorean longevity. But you never know....

  42. I'm not taking any chances on this set. We all know what happens when you don't have patience and look away for a second, you scramble to find a DeLorean set, but it's too late! ????

  43. The pound has strengthened (and fluctuated) a lot in the last 6 months and BP data is converted from original currency to USD by ebay and then back to target currency on a different date by this site´s owner (if I have understood his explanation) so there is a lot of room for fluctuation in non USD datasets. Check the monthly actual sales on Ebay.co.uk or Bricklink in GBP for a more accurate guide and compare with other EU ebay sites in their own currencies (BP EU data is only from Ebay Germany where they have an unexplainable interest in Chima Lion Temples and a more comprehensible lack of love for the Sopwith Camel, for instance) The EU is probably the weakest R2 data set market as it took many countries a good while to sell out (the last ones here went last month at 200 euros).

  45. When they hit $1000-1200 I am going to be selling 2 of these, with 46 selling 2 is nothing, one mistake I made was I should of stuck with 20 TB, instead of buying 30, This way I could of gotten 6 more SSD, Like I always say you will always regret not buying more of the right Exclusives, I have been telling everybody on here for over 2 years to buy, buy and buy these, now I no alot of you have quite a few of them, and the guys that I talked to on the phone I nagged you guys over and over to get them, and I hope you have alot of them. I really gets to me that I didn't get more of certain sets, I go to sleep and wake up thing about it. Ed

  46. So, built this one last night. Box was in good condition considering the age, if a bit musty. Instructions were also in good. In the box also had two Expert Builder (Technic) posters/catalogues (in perfect shape), missing piece/feedback card and a 1982 (I think) Lego catalogue, also in great shape. The model itself? The pieces look almost new. The minifigs are immaculate- no "Bennied" broken helmet straps, no faded Classic Space logos. Baseplate is also immaculate. However, missing one white minifig and 4-5 other pieces, even though it was advertised as complete. But, it is a beauty. I'll have to take a comparison photo with Benny's Spaceship Spaceship SPACESHIP to show both the scale and just how bloody good an hommage the latter set is to these lovely old sets.

  47. Here's my take on a Quick DS remake. Simple, If you were a Lego collector, aficionado, or Enthusiast.or whatever......Would you be pissed if you just got the DS for $400 plus tax OR in the secondary market for much more and then Bam.......they come up with another DS at around $350-$450. I would be pissed as ****. Im pissed Thinking about it!

  48. Some great points in the thread, and good advice. My point was that GE is $150 below the price of every other retired modular, and given the unique market and circumstances with the modulars (AFOL appeal, desire to own complete sets, etc.), that GE is well positioned for some nice escalation. I do think there's a bit of herd mentality around the modulars. FB and TH are seeing some amazing price escalation right now, and personally, I think GE is going to follow this sometime this year. If/when it does, $240 for a GE is going to look like a bargain. Heck, I wish I had punched the button on 3 more THs at $299 just 3 weeks ago. Had them in my Amazon cart, and bailed in favor of 2x Tumblers and 2x TBs (with the reasoning that "I'd rather pay MSRP than not..." Whoops.). I do think the modulars are special in this way, and that any of them are going to see FB, TH, and yes, eventually GC type of escalation. It's inevitable with growing demand and supply frozen to stock already made. BTW, looking at # of eBay sales is a tricky art. Personally, I think Amazon is moving 10x to 100x the amount of stock as eBay. My evidence is anecdotal, though. Wait a few years. A complete set of the modulars, especially if new in box, will be worth a literal fortune. I've already seen complete, sealed sets of all the modulars go for over $5000 (there was an eBay *auction* sale at $7k recently, though it included 3x of MS, so not quite apple-to-apple). Heck, *built* sets, with no boxes, are clearing $3500 now. My guess: in a few years, sets with mostly new kits (and perhaps the first 3 built, but with good boxes and instructions), will be $10k items. There's nothing magic about paying MSRP (or below). Sure, that's a great deal if you can find it, but there's some favorable aspects to paying above MSRP (but not crazy-prices), too. For evidence, just look at TH pricing last month. Any of us would gladly pay $299 for TH today, and it was available at that price only weeks ago. Among the advantages of buying sets slightly above MSRP, you're buying sets that have gone "sold out" (and hopefully, soon to be "retired"). If some select sets are possibly headed to 3-5x above MSRP, paying 30-50% above MSRP when the market looks favorable isn't a huge risk. YMMV. Thanks again to all with the good thoughts here. I enjoy reading everyone's opinion.
