This is so true. Specific people who really want sets to build. Additionally, some of the money spending pain can be removed if anyone wanted / needed a Town Hall 3 years from now and the price was over $1,000. We can always sell something to help purchase it and you also view it was an investment. I was able to post build threads with 10196, 10181 10194 and 10179 using money earned from selling other set. That really took the sting out of the overall purchase price. At the same time, I consider these as my "conservative" investments. Sure, they won't grow 50%-125 % annually for the initial 2-3 years after retirement but at least 10%-20% growth is still achievable and demand is still high in-case I ever need to sell. However, best of all is I get to build these AWESOME sets I missed during my Dark Age. I would also def say recently retired sets like 10221 SSD, 10224 Town Hall, 10225 r2, 10226 Sopwith Camel and 10228 Haunted House are among the batch of 'newer' sets that AFOLs will look for after their Dark Age are done. Plus like other sets mentioned in recent posts here, we shouldn't need to worry about refreshes for a while.

AFAIK, PC is the only modular with stickers. DO had a glorious amount of printed parts, including fantastic printed *windows* for both the pool hall and the Detective Agency itself, and piles of small printed parts all over the set. Also, the first set with a real mirror. IMHO, PR and DO are the best modulars yet, and my 2 favorite; I've owned them all. Regarding piece counts: GE: 2182 PS: 2032 PC: 2196 PR: 2469 DO: 2262 I don't see a major trend, and if there is one, it's an *increase* in pieces in recent sets.

I Bricklinked the 2014 SDCC Batmobile exclusive. It was pretty easy and fun. The minifigs are the same as the ones from the Juniors Batcave set. I want to do another set. Maybe a bigger one this time.

Hey guys! I came across a very talented Japanese builder, who makes videos of his pop-up building creations. From what I can gather they require more than 10K pieces and take him more than a year (200 hours) to make. What I'm more interested in though is how he generated the instructions and got the piece numbers at the end of this video: Did he use the Digital Designer to do the entire thing first? Take screenshots of each layer? Figure out the piece numbers for each? Is there some other tool he used to do this for him automatically? Quite an amazing monumental effort either way. Wow. To me, that's just dishonest. You are either meeting the deadline or not. If you can't meet it, then live with the consequences. I sell plenty and always make it a priority to process the postage immediately. And if I don't then my bad.

Being my first exclusive build it was pretty fun and I was pretty impressed with it. 5 movies and 4 episodes of "Gotham" later she was done. Had friends over 2days after completion and they were taking pictures of it. B)

Buying via TRU is a gamble. Sometimes the items arrive well packed, with lots of filling material in their shipping boxes and the Lego boxes are in fine condition, sometimes there is lots of space in it and the Lego boxes look pretty beaten up.

I know what you mean. I think Town Hall looks great, but for $550? I'd buy two Sea Cows and build me a Super Sea Cow. Which Is actually not a half bad idea. You'd get the hull pieces to make it a reasonable length so it doesn't look so top heavy, a whopping 12 cannons... I wonder if anyone has posted pics of something like that...

Some good points there. Regarding stickers, I was unclear in my post. The stickers are popping up more and more in exclusives generally (10240 and 10241, for example), and builders seem to hate them, but I'm glad to hear they aren't showing up more in modulars. As far as modular piece counts are concerned, there was a drop of about 10% from 10197 to 10218, but they do seem to have come up since then. So I stand corrected.

Picked up a couple of camper vans at Target for $6.98. The inventory tracker had them at $5.98, but I'm not complaining for a dollar more .

Scored another 40120 valentine's dinner at Ross. Box was mangled and open, but went for it anyway. Complete with three sealed bags, plate, and instructions. I think this set was bound to meet the same fate as a duplo there...built complete and left on shelf...I guess the kid was pulled away before that happened!

Bought 31036 Toy and Grocery Shop. I've been wanting this, just didn't want to pay retail. Found it on AWD today for $31. Happy with that price. I wouldn't be surprised if we see this go on sale at some point. But for a personal build, I'm happy with the price.

Everything you listed is licensed except the TH. I am not sure that's the answer, but I am reaching into my childhood experience of "one of these things does not belong here".

I think in about ten years, all the modulars will be MSRP $200. Heck, if Lego follows the CMF pricing trend, the modulars could all be $300 in the next five years. Lego's been reaching on price more and more. Inflation is just about zero in their major markets (EU and US), but Lego set prices are heading up fast while price per piece falls. Anyway, I don't think we'll ever know why TH got chopped. Lego went right on producing the $200 ToO, $200 Simpsons House, $200 Red 5, the (ahem) $400 Death Star, and since TH left we've gotten the $200 Tumbler, $200 Slave 1, and $200 UCS Tie Fighter. Are modular buyers especially stingy and unwilling to pay $200? I somehow doubt it. After all, they're now happy to pay $550 for TH on eBay.

Still rising fast. One BPer sold one for $585 shipped on ebay yesterday. Cheapest listing at the river is $580.

Far as straight up characters go, I am going to get Comic Book Guy, Groundskeeper Willie, and Bartman. The rest I will pick up only a select few for parts to be used as regular pedestrians in my cityscape. Homer's suit is nice along with Marge's dress and his Valentine's Day heart and her clutch purse have other uses. The dresses of Patty and Selma look good too. While White Fang said Martin Prince's attire is very suitable for school uniforms, I say it looks more like the outfit for an office supply store employee. (You can see I will acquire a few just for that reason. Ha.) What caught me with Professor Frink's flask is the 'fluid' is opaque and not translucent like all the others so I may get one of him for that plus his torso reminded me of Bill Nye the science guy. Haha. Hans Moleman's shirt and tie makes me think about "Shaun of the Dead" and a bit of Dilbert so there's another. I have a few Mr. Burns from the first series because I liked his suit so maybe I will get Smithers just for the heck of it. Also his attire in LEGO form is like one of the Doctors (the time travelling kind). I think this Lisa like the former's torso can make a nice dress for a grownup character. Last thing for some reason I want a bunch of Milhouse as Fallout Boy and don't quite know why. I feel compelled to make an army of biohazard henchmen or something. Eh, I shall collect then worry over the details later.

Why isn't this set more popular. It seems like a ship that would be more popular. Maybe it's because no one ever saw it in action in the movies though I thought it was mentioned enough for people to be interested.
