  1. Saw this on BrickSet - looks like Exo is finally ending production...

  2. How many $ 100+ sets have retired unexpectedly within such a short time? One would think that a short-term retirement decision like that is much easier for small sets that have caused hardly any design cost. But for the larger ones - I'd say a big set would have to sell really, really badly to cut it off that quickly. So does anyone know if an expensive set has gotten that treatment before? Personally I'd say that none of the new trains is retiring, I just don't see a good reason.

  3. Yes it is. She's not really pissed either, thank god. I explained some LEGO investments paid off well enough to pay for it. As for my next complaint, we have another blizzard coming tomorrow night into Sunday night.

  4. If you need filler for a set that is $39.9x, this works: http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=54766956 I'll be donating mine to a toy drive or something.

  13. The past two days in this thread make me long for the days when there was actual news to report and discuss. Everyone who is freaking out over the early retirement of 60052 (if that is indeed what is happening) clearly hasn't been around for very long. Every year, TLG retires sets unexpectedly after very short runs at retail. Off the top of my head, I can recall #3222, Butterfly Beauty Salon, and Zombies falling into that boat, as well as Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter, which was only around for what seemed like a minute in the U.S. before retiring. Although it's difficult to predict which sets this will happen to, it is hardly an uncommon occurrence...unless you try to define the issue as narrowly as one of the earlier posters (i.e., no train with a MSRP greater than $200 that carries the set number 60052 has ever retired in 6-12 months before this one).

  14. If I were single & desperate, I'd probably sit at a table closet to the Qdoba register all day. Funny, I've never heard of them, figured they were east coast. Look it up and they're all around me, but 30+ miles away in each direction..

  20. Slight confusion maybe? Maybe not pure violent rioting anarchy, but perhaps jaywalking and loitering with reckless abandon?

  21. If you where asking this question in February of 2016 I would tell you that its a bit too early. This set is a great set of a great ship. There is no way it goes before mid to the end of 2016. go after sets closer to expected OEL (Red 5).

  22. ^ look like i will be passing on the Raptor set unless it's the only way to get raptors. Not impressed otherwise by the truck. The bike is kinda cool. If you just took the truck and put it next to other lego, aside from the tiny decals, nothing stands out to say "Jurassic Park" to me.

  23. Very true. I was expecting to find a bunch of over priced "missing parts" sets. (which I did) There was a microfighter clone turbo tank in the original box for $4. I opened it up and sure enough, just the minifig was missing. Also found a complete 9493 @ $40, but I didn't buy it. For the amount of stuff that is in this place there was a very small amount of legos there. This is what it looks like. It's insane.

  25. It wouldn't surprise me that Lego is going to screw all those investors stockpiling PS by a suddenly EOL of PC. Official press release: 'Thank you all dear horders for increasing our ususally bad January sales by buying the PS in large numbers; in fact so large that we couldn't keep up with production. Now, due to bad sales of the PC we are going to retire this one and produce the PS for another 2 years'. :-P

  26. Might have more potential. The first 2 weeks Birds was on Amazon, it was the #1 ranked seller in toys. That's an important data point. This set has massive appeal to folks not usually interested in Lego. FYI.

  27. That helicopter... Conversation @ TLG HQ: Designer (presenting the set): "So this going to be our ne cargo train..." Manager (interrupting): "But where's the helicopter? I don't like it. We are adding helicopters to every city set now. Didn't you get the memo?" Designer: "But... but sir, it's a train! How can we credibly add a..." Manager (interrupting again): "EVERY set. Do you need another copy of that memo?" Designer: "No sir, I already got onw. I just thought that..." Manager (interrupting yet again): "From now on, just make sure to add a helicopter to every set. And I'll make sure you'll get another copy of that memo." Designer (baffled): "I don't need..." (resigning) "Okay sir."

  29. Nice find! Don't know about you, but I've always found when I actively seek out yard sales or estate sales, I never find anything good. It's always the ones you randomly run into or go just because a friend or significant other is going.

  30. I'm curious to see what direction this goes in. If TLG were to sign a long-term contract with The Simpsons, different series based on themes would be pretty sweet. Imagine: Series 5, "TV/Movie personalities" Sideshow Bob! Bumblebee Man! Troy McClure! McBain! Springfield Elementary Series, Moe's Tavern patrons, the possibilities are endless. Or whatever, just keep them coming! TLG has proven they know what they're doing. I'm hoping this lasts long enough for the Captain/Fisherman or Snake personally.

  32. Went to a huge semi-annual consignment sale with my wife this afternoon and found a used 4708: Hogwarts Express in the box. ($50) Couldn't believe it. Opened the box to check contents before buying and set was partially put together in excellent condition with no dust build up. Instructions were also in the box and looked like they'd never been used. Needless to say I put in an inquiry about getting in touch with the consignor to see if they had any other sets they needed to get rid of.

  39. I "care" because this site is a community about Brickpickers helping other Brickpickers. Migration - "You're missing the point. For someone doing this full time $10-$20 per set is excellent. You just have to do it multiple times. Keep in mind the set is still available. Sell, restock, sell again. Wash, rinse, repeat." If people were making $20 per set, I would absolutely agree. I just don't think people are even making $10 per set. And again, you need to factor in an hourly rate. Like I mentioned, perhaps I just over value my time. And there's also an opportunity cost - You're not going to find more Farnsworth once they are done, and the value they have in several months will far outweigh the benefits of selling them for $10 profit now. From reading these sorts of threads, I seriously believe many people severely overestimate their actual profits and fail to factor in a lot of other costs. Simple math sounds good "Oo, mixels buy at $2, sell at $10! cha-ching!)" but it really doesn't work that way. Anyway, my point of the post to begin with is just to encourage people to rethink their strats. They certainly don't have to. And if it is working for you, that's great. I am trying to offer my advice and help people do better. I won't take it personally if you ignore my thoughts. A lot of new folks read these threads too, and maybe they'll benefit.

  44. Oh there's no "lose" in Mixels as far as I'm concerned. I just hope we can move them sooner than later. I hope that BP member that's being talked about up's his asking price. If he holds that much power over prices, it could be wise for him as well. I was gonna say, it better not be Alpinemaps! haha. He wouldn't keep them too low. lol
