Just expensive items for WM to begin with. Not big sellers at that level. $200 Train set was destined for sales failure at WM. They clearance big sets like that and replace with others. Last round MF, Chi Temple was clearanced at a lot of stores then others got in those same 2 sets. Kind of like Target clearancing Fire Station then replaced with Police Station, then clearance Police station and got Fire Station back in. Just a quicker turnover on larger sets.3 points

All we need is this set having a short appearance in "fifty shades of grey" and we will be just fine regarding sexappeal.3 points

I second what Ed says above. These guys read all these threads and that is a pretty big task and try their best to keep it in order. Members do crazy and lazy things all day. Bad titles, duplicate posts, put the same post in multiple topics, don't search, answer members questions in PMs, etc, etc. It happens all day, every day. If the mods didn't do what they do, then many people would be complaining that there is no moderation and everything is a mess.3 points
-
There is no need for this. They do the best they can for free. Everyone wants to take shots at the Mods, but until you walk in someone's shoes, it is easy to talk. It is difficult keeping the threads in order. Many people post threads that can be added to an existing thread. They take pride in their efforts and try to keep the forum clear of spam and obscene discussions. This forum is pretty lenient. Other LEGO forums just remove your post and you disappear from the site.3 points

I feel your pain. I have several of some large exclusive sets but there are so many available right now and I'm limited by storage/capital to having zero or one of some sets that I really like. And for those that I only have one of at the moment, the devil on my shoulder constantly whispers, "open me...build me."2 points

My $5-$10 flips pay for my $50-$100 flips. As for hourly rate, easy to package/ship sets I can pay my 8 or 10 year old a buck to do it. Buy from store, update listing already made. Get notification when sold, have kids pack or do it myself. Do that 5 times a day and you have plenty of money for the exclusives and what not. Could be a shortage or problem with a common component like tracks or power functions. The extra track packs are also sold out in the EU so that may be why.2 points

There is no one reason to think that the trains 60051 and 60052 could go to EOL so soon... these are classic city trains, no exclusives, and such trains are selling longer than 2 years. Why would the TLG finish these trains just after 1 year??? No logic. There must be a train every year on the shelves, previous trains (7938, 7939) were selling 4 years!, no reason to stop the production and make another train. This is a basic set for children, such as a police station, fire station, etc. I think the reason of "sold out" status is just a lack of supplies after Xmas...2 points

Not trying to tell anyone how to do their business, but if you are selling these at $75 - I just don't understand why. You're making what, $15 tops, and that's before incrementals like gas, packing/shipping supplies, etc. Factor all that in you're under $10. And what's your time worth to go buy it, and then pack and ship it? In a relatively short amount of time this set will hit $100 without problem, I just can't grasp why someone who doesn't NEED the cash would short sell these at $75. It's barely break even. Perhaps I just over value my time. (By "these" I mean Farsnworth House since it is what was being discussed)2 points

You cant. If someone is gonna scam you they are gonna do it. That's the risk you take selling sealed packs.2 points

This website is a business. It needs to remain professional and responsible. We never know who is reading the site. I really don't think you will see a free for all at brickset or eurobricks or any other LEGO community These guys are doing their job and we appreciate their efforts. If members would do what they are supposed to do then mods wouldn't have to do anything. Then there would be no complaints.2 points

I don't mean this as any sort of criticism or taking sides, but I could see some value in longer/busy threads like this being updated with a new thread yearly, or something similar: "Retiring Soon - Open Speculation - 2015" or something like that, which might make it a little more convenient for looking for current or even researching particular information from previous years. I can see this working on a few other threads too - Order Status, LEGO Employee Said, etc etc. Just might be more efficient/convenient.2 points

Look at the recent releases of the Maersk line of sets and I would have thought that they would have performed better. Enough off topic conversation. The Mods will delete all of my posts now.2 points

The value of time is very relative. I have a house full of kids (6 of them most of the time) and a full time job. I'm in better shape with a buy and hold/traditional investor perspective. I don't have time to spend running after clearance deals (which aren't that plentiful around here, anyway). More power to those who can. A 2.5 hour round trip to the nearest LEGO store is a trek when there's homework to help with, dinner to cook, and soccer games to sideline-pace. I think there's room for all sorts of strategies, and I won't poo-poo anyone who's making money and happy. Missing one of those two... why do it? There are other ways to find happiness and make money. Missing both, well... I still don't think the Sandcrawler is retiring this soon.2 points

I do hope the appeal to AFOL's with a larger Imperial Flagship type of vessel. I will keep building my own until they release the next verison.2 points

That thing is in pretty amazing condition for being shipped like that. I don't usually get actual shipping boxes to arrive as good as that.1 point

^^ - There's a lot of new product coming out, and only a few lines discontinuing. Retailers needs shelf space. NEW: 1. Bionicle (Replacing HF) 2. DUPLO Sofia (Replacing... Jake) 3. Classic - Not replacing anything as such, but getting more of a shelf presence. 4. Elves - New 5. Pirates - Replacing Castle? 6. Jurassic World - New 7. Scooby Doo - New 8. Speed Champions - New 9. Minecraft stuff is getting much more shelf presence. 10. SEVERAL new city lines coming out. 11. Ninjago TONS of new stuff coming out in March. 12. Technic is getting shelf presence more now that it's a non TRU exclusive. The only lines really definitely disappearing are the Hobbit/LOTRO by the end of the year. They have new Movie sets, new Star Wars sets, new Ultra Agents sets... The reality is I think sets are going to cycle in and out faster at retail locations, especially slow moving large sets. How long LEGO decides to keep them in production and TRU decides to keep them on the shelf will be very interesting to see.1 point

Seriously. What is going on with the trains and the large SW sets from a few months back, specifically 75055 and 75054. WM clearancing what they have and not carrying them any more? Lego B&M in Stl had only a few 60052 and no 60051. Also no 75055 and no 75054. Employee said they won't be carrying them any more in stock. Any of them. He said they moved out all those SW sets for the new sets and he went on to say all the sets I see before me will be moved out late summer/ early fall for the line of ep VII sets. I asked if they were retiring or will they still be available online he said "no idea". Are these retiring already or just going to be only available from Lego LEGO Shop at Home for the next 3 years? Is THIS the chaos? 6 month lifespans?1 point

In dog years I am 9 years old and I can't wait to buy this set on Tuesday morning.1 point

No huge audience... maybe you are right. But I firmly believe the market for these is aimed at people who work or worked on ships (pensioners) and mostly they have quite some money to spend. At least here in Europe.1 point

I still haven't built it and when I do it will be stickerless just because my fingers can't handle the patience to do that many and its hard for me to get them even. Been stuck on 12 of these for awhile. Backed off the past few months building up other sets as these were not moving around me so will have time to go back if that outlook changes. I do like the set, always have just not sure how it will be perceived by others down the road.1 point

The original comment I made was not even about what to sell them at. I stated not to overlook Farnsworth House as a few posters had mentioned there were a lot available. I only used my personal sales to let others know it is a popular set and if it sells this well while still being available in certain retail stores it will do even better once fully gone. That's it nothing more. I stated I still buy them at $54 for down the road. I think Farnsworth gets overlooked a lot compared to Falling Water and seeing the ceiling for most all Architecture seems to be in the double range it doesn't have much more to go from where it is at right now but at $54 buy in $100-120 would be a nice sale.1 point

Why? Why do you care if others lose money? The sooner others get out the less competition for you when you decide to start selling yours. I never understand why people care about how other people invest. The only things that really annoy me are the things that affect me. Like how you can't get any discounts anymore because the horde mass panic buys any set that has the slightest sign of shortage causing more shortage at msrp.1 point

what I gathered from post......"MODS and admins you are doing a crappy job running this site and I know what's best for this site because I have 9 posts". I'm not sure who moved your post but I will definitely find out and let them know you do not approve. My suggestion to you is if you feel you know how to run a FREE site any better you should stop wasting your time here and start your own.1 point
