  2. In the last couple of days: - Sold Series 1 Mixels for $110 (Bricklink). Net $45 after fees, acquisition costs, shipping, etc. - Sold my last set of Red Series 1 Mixels yesterday, for $45. Bummed to see them come to an end. My stock in Series 1 Mixels is dwindling. Still have a few sets left, along with some of the individual Mixels. It's been a great run.

  5. Old grey both light and dark. I primarily work with lots from after the change to bley, right now I'm piecing together a 4708 and a 4709. I keep looking at the greys and thinking they're dirty.

  9. Would appreciate if someone across the pond would call LEGO Shop at Home and ask them if it is going to come back in stock or not. If they say it is not it looks like we may get in reverse what happened with the Super Star Destroyer and have a month or two more of it in the United States.

  10. We already do have something to handle this. Its the Variations tab that you see when listing a product. This is here for those that may want to list parts. That is why I have a bunch of the part colors already listed in there in their different categories. Then there are a few CUSTOM attributes there for people that may want to sell items like you or many some clothes, etc. We will continue to fine tune it, but it does already exist. It also allows for different pricing for each item as well as quantity management. So you can say I have 10 red ones at $5.00 each and then I have 100 Blue ones at $4.00 each, etc. You can also list sets this way. You may have 100 #10188 Death Stars. You can use this to breakout conditions. 50 maybe MISB, 20 may not have a box or no minifigures, etc. Then people can select what they want and it will allow you to set the different prices.

  12. Thanks raven... That is pretty simple. I have some lights that might work in that scenario, except I've loaned them to a friend's daughter for a junior high science fair. Probably goes without saying, but this site is great. I know people keep some lil nuggets, but I appreciate your help in improving my photos.

  13. Here is an overhead pic of what the setup looks like and a cropped photo of a set using this system. No flash, just the lights in a dark office with no real bright light. Its 2 copy stands side by side with 3 overhead lights (can get away with 2 its just for my jewelry listings). The lights are dirt cheap on ebay. The copy stands with 2 lights are about $125-150 on ebay. You can buy used copy stand and lights though. For big sets out of your house 2 would be needed to make it work for exclusives. At our warehouse where most of our listings are done its a custom station made out of of door with a large white fabric that goes up and all the way down so it eliminates anything but the item after the crops. There we just use the light put out with our normal office light but same principal for if you have a small space and want to take crisp photos for your listings.

  15. Built this set last week and agree that it's very nice. We have it displayed on our mantle. I hope there's another version with some new birds coming soon. For everyone with cats please give them a big hug when you get home today. We just learned today our youngest (<2 yrs old) has FIP and may only have a week to live. We had no idea this was coming other than that she wasn't her usual self the last few weeks until I took her into the vet today. It puts Lego investing and other issues much into perspective.

  17. Almost a full year ago, Bold-Arrow started a thread about his experience with Amazon Warehouse Deals. As I mentioned in today's Daily Deal thread, we recently had our third child, and there was a ton of down time in the hospital. I spent a lot of time browsing the back alley's of Brickpicker's forums, and Bold-Arrow's thread was one I stumbled across. About every 15 minutes or so, I'd refresh the listing of AWD and browse through the results. It's amazing some of the cool older sets that pop up on there! Many of them aren't investment worthy, or even buy and build worthy, but they are interesting to discover even if I ultimately decide not to purchase. I have bought 13 sets in the past 10 or so days, and I have not yet done anything but open the shipping box to verify there was an actual Lego set delivered. I figured I might as well share the excitement of exploring the purchases with all of you while we wait for some actual Lego deals to pop up. My format will go as follows, with each set in an individual post: Set Name: Set Number: Release Year: Retired (Y/******/Maybe): Regular Retail Price: Current Brickpicker Value (New and Used): Purchase Price (Discount): Listed Condition: Description of actual condition (maybe some pics too!): Worth the Purchase?: If any of you have also made recent AWD purchases, feel free to post your own! I'm guessing what we'll find is that the condition code is impossible to crack, but that there may be some trends that develop and can be used to our advantage. I don't think I purchased any "Item is Damaged" sets, but I'm kinda curious to know what that means in regards to Lego. It would be pretty difficult to "damage" any actual bricks, and if any were they can be replaced relatively cheaply on Bricklink/Brickowl/etc. I'm going to go in chronological purchase order, starting with a 9493 X-Wing.

  21. If you can get them or have already purchased them at a discount, some of the Architecture sets have a lot of the needed pieces in quantity, specifically the 21015 Leaning Tower of Pisa (66% match, get 2), 21004 Guggenheim Museum (68% match) and 21050 Architecture Studio (56% match). Those 4 sets alone have about 1260 (21%) of the pieces you need. Rebrickable also has a feature (now sort of hidden) where you can enter set #'s and it will tell you how many pieces of those sets can be used. Here is an example with the 4 sets I mentioned: http://rebrickable.com/build_set_parts?s=10189-1&setlist=1&partlist=1&s1=21004-1&s2=21015-1&s3=21050-1&s4=21015-1&c=2&ignore_print=1&ignore_mold=1&ignore_alt=1&ignore_minifig=1&ignore_nonlego=1

Used to be a SSD, TB , or DS every week. All good things come to an end though as companies try to max out profits.

  27. I don't think there was any kind of scandal that turned regular buyers away, and even if there was, it certainly isn't impacting your average buyer today. Resellers were the only ones who ever really created any kind of great demand for the set from the start.

  29. i beg to differ. Buying TH now at above MSRP is almost a sure bet, as retirement is on hand, and demand is higher than supply. If buy other sets there will be greater uncertainty as retirement is unclear and lego may produce a lot more sets that satisfy demand for a long long time. Examples are 10188 and 10214. I believe TH will reach the price level of today's green grocer easily within 2 to 3 years.

  31. Yeah when i was down in FL Watching the bama osu game it was during the under armour game weekend of which my friends dad is one of the coaches. Basically a bunch of college scouts and coaches watching and everyone was like who has someone like this 3rd on there depth chart. Crazy stuff. But if braxton is back and healthy and barret too its a tough decision

  32. congrats indeed. Has to be one of the strangest endings to a season. Be interesting to see qb camp at osu next season. Most say even winning he's still 3rd in depth starting off next season. To inexperienced to declare so most likey transfer. Good problem to have though.

  33. I'm new to this, but I'm in for 3 of these. My goal is to simply sell 2 to pay for the cost of 1. Anything above that is gravy. I could give two craps about LOTR, to be honest, I don't hate it. I don't love it. I simply haven't given the movies or books my time. This set though, transcends any of that. It just looks like a blast to build, to play with, and it turns people's heads when they see it. It's unlike any other set made by lego. I know many people who feel the same as myself. They don't love or hate LOTR and still think this set is really cool and would love to have one. Perhaps I'm being simple mined about it, but that's why I'm investing in this one.I think It's going to be a winner.

  35. I agree to what biniou says. Both have potential and have their pros and cons. Looking at PS you have a set which is part of a successful lineup of sets (the modulars). Once it's sold out it will gain... don't know how much though... (that's the big con...) On the other hand you have ToO which is a real nice set and especially LOTR Fans might want it someday. I really like LOTR LEGO and The Hobbit LEGO as well, but to me it does not seem that the lineup is as successful as the modulars lineup. But still this set is unique. The only question will be if you think that there will be more people who would buy LEGO for quite some money that already own other modulars and want the PS in their LEGO Neighbourhood or if you think that LOTR Fans (not all of them will be into LEGO...) or other LEGO collectors would prefer to have ToO. Another critical question is: Which one will go EOL first? Other sets that might be worth a look: TB (Tower Bridge), Ewok Village (EV), X-Wing UCS... personally I don't have any others on my wish list right now. If by any chance I have some money left the next few months and there's still some left I will probably get me another ToO and another EV. (Because I already have as many PS/X-Wing/TB as I want to have... not because I think ToO or EV are an superior investment (I only add this so that you do not think "oh he's getting another ToO or EV... probably I should go for them too and not for PS (or else))).

  41. I love this set! Who is investing in this set and how long it will be on sale?

  42. Dunno. I wrote an opinion on the Downtown Bakery set build a while back, but I can't find it on the site anymore. Anyway, here's a photo of it next to the City Park Cafe. When the DB was first released, the only other "food" establishment in the Friends line was the CPC and the CPC was a way better build than the DB. Among other things, the CPC was designed better. Everything fit so nicely inside it. The DB floor plan was really small and an awkward L shape in comparison, and the display counter and the oven can't even fit inside it. Since then, there have been a lot of food-related Friends sets released. The focus on CPC and DB was the cupcake trend from a couple years ago. Now they've moved on to ice cream, fresh fruits and vegetables, ice cream, pizza, and did I mention ice cream? (Actually I'm surprised they haven't done cake pops yet...) Visually, IMO the DB colors aren't as pretty as the CPC's. The magenta/aqua/orange color scheme really clashes. Also, the DB was released the same time as the Dolphin Cruiser and the High School. Basically the Dolphin Cruiser shoved all the other sets aside. That said, I think this set will do well post-retirement. It's a shop. Collectors freakin' love shops. You may have to hold onto it for a while. It's not a flipper.

  44. Regarding the debate on the popularity of this set, I saw this thread on the Reddit lego sub. The membership of this subreddit has a lot of hardcore fans and I think they can be a good barometer of a set's popularity. Here's a small discussion on the modulars that took place yesterday, where they rank them. Like anything, opinions vary, but he Pet Shop seems to be well received overall. http://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/2rf3eh/rank_the_lego_modulars/
