https://baltimore.craigslist.org/bar/4724296023.html I changed the coke to a surge and now it looks like I'm getting an actual house. Funny how surge works. Those reviews on Amazon were spot on.4 points

Well.... The Hobbit was published (books, ya know) in 1937. Lord of the Rings was originally published in 1954. It's the second best selling novel of all time. So, for 70 years there have been fans of the Lord of the Rings. This is not something new that children need to grow into.3 points

it really depends on what you mean by retire - like RETIRED on shop at home vs unavailable for purchase. I think it won't be listed as RETIRED at shop at home until next year. I do not think it will be available for purchase again this year (except for fleeting stock gobbled by bp'ers). Everyone pretty much agrees that the SC is retired. That set probably won't get slapped with a retired tag until next year. Even Jabba's palace is still listed as SOLD OUT on the shop at home page and everyone can agree this isn't coming back, but still its not RETIRED. I think the TH has shot at some spectacular returns given its unexpected departure.3 points

Thanks to a fellow BP'er, who is surely to read this, I am very bullish on ToO. Math time. Licensed X Outstanding build X Never to be reproduced X A top literary work of all-time= $. I appreciate those who think this set is "fair" as an investment, as it only strengthens the case for those that see its true potential. Tolkien's work was produced during the 40's. It will never be remade; it will never be matched; an entire literary genre was spurned from it. If you enjoy Game of Thrones, Robert Jordan, R.A. Salvatore, or any other author of the fantasy genre, thank Tolkien for lighting the fire. This is an epic, iconic, once-in-an-investor's-lifetime set, and will always, always, always have an interested audience.3 points

Truly a great build. The dragon is like no other. Smug really towers over the whole set perfectly. I know you won't get as much joy out of watching the build as you would actually building the set, but hopefully it will provide of glimpse. Enjoy.2 points

We are. I don't know if it would be easier to sell four T1s or one SSD, so I've stocked up on both. I like a varied portfolio.2 points

The fact is though, there is less chance of a kid getting 2 of these at Christmas and selling 1, less chance you'd sell this set if you got it as a gift, a lot of investors like to keep to investment on a set under2 points

I'm very bullish on the set as well but if you want investors to ignore it and not stockpile it, the last thing I would do is post how great it is.2 points

I agree people should stop buying TH when it shows up again. More for me to buy. Hehe :)2 points

With all the reproduction stickers out there now, I think it is better to get a complete set from a reputable source. Unless you are a seasoned falcon builder and have seen multiple ones in person in can be difficult to tell if all the pieces are there, even on a completely built ebay auction, you gonna count all those gray levers. I had a sealed pair of them I bought years ago but still had to splurge and buy one of the first editions, and yes I justified it by saying to myself and the head of the finance department that I would sell it sometime later, but we all know that's not gonna happen. Get yourself a nice acrylic display case so you don't' have to keep dusting and enjoy whatever you decide.2 points

Just watched the 4th episode with my son. Wow! Best Star Wars action since in a long time. With just 4 episodes shown, this series is already way better than The Clone Wars, TPM, and AOTC. This series is def a winner. Lego is loving it. Don't click unless you want to be spoiled!2 points

SINNER!!! For thou shalt not display X-Wing second edition instead of Ewok village first edition!!! I could have bought some for more discount but at that time I decided otherwise since I figured they will be around a little longer... now I don't have the money anymore ;-) But honestly I don't think it's the best investment either so I guess I can life with not having bought any until now... Will probably wait for may the forth be with you and get a couple (or not...) depending on my "pocket money"...1 point

I'm guessing the stray little dot that worked it's way between the two and the zero was his problem there. Can you imagine his horror when he discovered that.1 point

Although we don't know for sure, it would be fairly likely that to assume the LOTR license has expired or expires at the end of 2014. It seems doubtful TLG would pay for the license and not release another wave of LOTR sets (this also assumes the Hobbit license is separate) in the spring/summer as past years. That is a huge telling point. We do know licenses are probably expensive and not acquired lightly, so to not release another wave is an indicator that perhaps all LOTR stock was produced that will ever be produced, possibly including ToO. It is also possible that the license expires this year, and that the backorder indicates a final run of ToO before the license expires. I'd expect TLG to make a fair amount though, to keep this set available for awhile. I doubt they will keep the LOTR license in 2015 if ToO is the only set they produce, though, so as long as there aren't more LOTR waves (no rumors that I know of) the Tower can't be produced forever. Better to get one or two now (One in double VIP, on on Black Friday), stay below the banhammer and hedge your bets. Probably not time to wipe out stock from other retailers where you won't get double VIP or bonus sets to sell.1 point

After seeing the quantity hoarded here, now I'm seriously thinking about selling mine. Everyday we keep seeing new signs that this market is getting overcrowded.1 point

I would guess Lego has stopped production on this set. Since there is no longer a lord of the rings line being produced because it wasn't popular enough there is no reason to continue producing this set. I imagine they are going to sell off whatever they stock they have left and call it a day.1 point
-
I'm guessing the Tower of Orthanc is not selling very well. Reasons: - LOTR fans are still young, they can't afford a $200 toy yet - Most current AFOLs already passed the age when the LOTR movies were released If this is correct, then ToO will likely ripe 3 to 4 years from now when the LOTR generation mature into their mid-late 20s, early 30s, assuming the set's been retired by then (very likely).1 point

Click on the order and you see that the TH is backordered, but the promo is 'customer service'. I had the same, but just got confirmation, so no big deal. It was worse if it was the other way around ;-)1 point

by the way, another good idea that I've used to sell expensive stuff on CL is to ask to meet inside the lobby of my bank. The bank is filled with security cameras, guards, etc. Once I do the transaction, I deposit the cash into my account with the teller, and I walk out of the bank without the possibility of getting robbed.1 point

Collected the two GEs (36R4) I ordered at WM today. They came in the original LEGO box - one was in perfect condition and the other had a small crease at the side. =)1 point

I got my two just when they came out (May 2014). I ended up with two of them at $52 each. It was a couple of coupons that made it happen.1 point

If this one is going I'm gonna let it. I can't afford any more "retiring" large exclusives this year.1 point

Read what I wrote. I said AFTER January 1, 2015. That could mean any of the 365 days that follow. Don't take things so literal. This theme is history soon after the new movie leaves theaters, especially the Tower of Orthanc. You can see a lack of sets and interest from LEGO.1 point

This is quite simply absolutely gorgeous. Who knew that a Lego set could ever be more detailed than a professional grade model kit? Oh, here is the box with some promo videos. via The Brick Fan1 point
