No Lego set is worth a marriage. Sell a few of your retired sets just to show that you can then take your wife out to dinner.8 points

The wife won't be happy till she sees some cash flow, everyone on the site will tell you that.- well the ones that are still married anyway. You can't let emotions dictate your business , u need to have targets at which you are comfortable selling. hoarding sets indefinitely will hurt you in more ways than one ( money, space, relationship, stress,...) I will give you one thing, it is def hard to let go of the last set of a specific model that's for sure, but then move on to the next one. Good luck2 points

Every good Investor should either be buying the Batman Ayslum now and then when you have the money, or if you haven't started yet don't wait to the last minute like it seems like alot of would be investors do. The set has been out for about 2 years so avoid the panic buying and spending money you don't have buy charging big bucks on those Credit Cards. As this set will always bring big money, I got 4 more today so by the end of October I will have about 30 and still will be buying them each month. So as most waited to the last minute on the SSD and Haunted House and some got none to only a few, and some got a good deal of them. So please don't miss the boat on this set. Ed2 points

For reference, a LOT of sets don't appear in various catologs, it is one of the worst ways to determine EOL dates IMO.2 points

There is this brand new 2x2 round tile with a hole in the middle. I can't tell if you may have already tried this part in the third image.1 point

It can fly, the time elapsed in the air just depends on how strong you are.1 point

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=6589 Using the round tile of second picture bellow it and x-pin to support it. Might ned to modify a little how the ring is supported but I think it is manageable.1 point

I went to 6 TRUs yesterday in search of a Sith Infiltrator. First one I went to some BPer looking guys beat me to it as they had one in their cart heh. Then they saw me clean them out of blue mixels and one followed me over to check it out like they missed out on a score. Anyway, point of my story is the last TRU I went to had 15 of the Bricktober Town Halls on the shelf! Needless to say I grabbed them all and scanned one, it rang up as 19.95. Was super stoked I was going to buy them all but upon checkout no dice, clerk wouldn't sell them to me but did let me have one instead of the theater at least.1 point

There's a thread over on Eurobricks on this topic. A number of people do a breakdown of the set and their costs to put it together, piece by piece, along with documenting the substitutions that they make.1 point

I have run the September 2014 update in the price guide. I need to continue to review, but overall looks pretty solid. Saw quite a few Star Wars increases. Big gain on the #10179, up over 14% and nearing $3600, an all time high. Star Wars also is continuing to take over the Brick Index, now holding 13 of the top 20 spots. Have you unloaded your Star Wars sets?1 point

Pretty awesome that "Bricks and Pieces" added prices up front. That was a huge hassle waiting for the invoice to see prices for cost comparison. It also used to be that prices varied between this and Pick a Brick, so that's another thing worth noting. LEGO Shop at Home can be a ripoff on some pieces vs. Bricklink, but can be a lifesaver on many others. As for Green Grocer, it looks like doing this set correctly is near impossible now with the 1x8 sand green being out of stock at Lego. Pieces do come in and out of stock there, but something like that in a rare color might be gone for some time until another set uses it. Does Haunted House use 1x8's? A set that recent in production should keep pieces in production, but Customer Service can tell you if a specific piece is still being made or not.1 point

I have some of the same feelings sometime...basically it used to hurt me to sell a set when I knew it will appreciate more..I sold a few Emerald Night at 300 and Imperial Flagships at $450 last winter...I should be very happy with this, but looking back and seeing that if I held them to now, I'd make even more kind of stings. On the other hand, the space I opened up allowed me to buy more without Lego invading my home even more. My suggestion is for every set you buy, sell a set. This way the space doesn't become an issue and it can be like a real business, with inventory turnover instead of constant inventory growth. Or else, find another storage solution that is not your house so that it is out of sight of your family...but make sure you are still selling! Hoarding behaviors are not healthy, even if they are profitable...you must have some discipline and set sales targets, and sell your sets when they reach those targets.1 point

The R2D2 is somewhat like the others UCS "portraits" (darth maul, yoda, grevious) and I wouldn't be surprised to see it retired and being replaced by, let's say, C3PO, darth vader or even a lightsaber. I don't know when it will be retired but I don't think it will become a "DS - bis".1 point

No. The galaxy is a big place. Just because you don't see them onscreen in the OT, doesn't mean they aren't somewhere out there.1 point

There's a TRU express "outlet" (HEAVY air quotes here) near me that has probably 10 Batman Funhouses - for $64.99. I do agree, beware the TRU exclusive.1 point

With that particular piece, a lot of people are substituting the 1x8 with 1x4s, or 1x6s and 1x2s. They come at a much cheaper prices, and can be used just as effectively.1 point

I picked up my tumbler from the lego store today. They informed me that the household limit was 1. When I asked why, they explained to me that people buy these and resell them at a huge markup. I replied "Oh really, you mean people actually do that sort of thing??"1 point

I have no interest in these, but the Theater is selling on ebay now for about $32 - 33 BuyItNow, shipped. (I can't understand why people are paying that much for these, when they can get them at most TRU's for $20 + tax). I went to TRU yesterday for the 9500 Sith Interceptors on clearance at $59.98. Bought 2, used $5 in rewards, got the Theater, and got the pumpkin. (Shouldv'e tried the 25% coupon, but I was in a hurry, and wouldv'e been fumbling with my phone for another 10 minutes). Came home, gave the pumpkin to my kid (made his day), put the Theater on ebay, at the lowest BuyItNow price, sold it, and put net $24 in my pocket. That brings my cost on the (retired) Sith Interceptors to about $49 each (sales tax included). Sweet! Thank you BP.1 point

as an invester, i'm bullish on Lego Rebels now. i watched the first 2 episodes. Rebels is perfect concept to pull in both prequel / clone wars and original trilogy fans. tie-fighters, ISDs, Stormtroopers, Bail Organa, Vader, being canon, etc... now if only they would decrease the nose sizes and remove the Freddy Prinze's char's chin wookie hair.1 point

Sure it is. Lego probably considers profits to some degree, but what matters most to them is when it is time for a set to go. That question is answered by The Schedule, which sits next to The Banhammer in an undisclosed location somewhere in the general vicinity of Area 51.1 point

No, that's what little girls in product development focus groups told the guys in suits what they do like. Big toy companies aren't stupid. Executives don't just release toys randomly based on what they think kids will like; they spend millions studying kids and developing toys that they want to play with. Friends has been a huge success, and the fact that some girls aren't interested isn't evidence that the executives are out-of-touch buffoons. They know a lot more than we do about what kids like.1 point

I believe there is also a level of credibility that gets built up on your amazon, target, etc accounts if you do not make a lot of returns or requests for discounts. I almost never make returns or ask for discounts but earlier in the year right before EOL I bought two SSD from amazon, they arrived a little damaged so I though why not it was a big order and the packaging could have been way better, so I requested a small discount. Customer service granted 40% discount on both SSD, so $240 each. I feel there is no way they would have offered such a high discount if I had been known for frequent returns and discount requests. I personally don't like accepting returns or making them.1 point

Anybody still don't have any DS you will be sorry this set will be another $1000 set and up, I am sure most will wait to the last minute as what they been doing on the SSD,HH,GE,TH. So if you have the money get one now and then, with 3 Star War Movies coming out the set will big money. Ed1 point

DS will not be as good as the SSD but it should still do well. Reasons are many : it is kind of a doll house and not a display price, longer production, more people are invested in it.1 point

I'll bite. If you are interested in any of the following set, you should pick up a few every week over the next 6 months. #10188 2008-06 Death Star #10214 2010-10 Tower Bridge #10218 2011-05 Pet Shop #10220 2011-09 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van #10225 2012-04 R2-D2 #79003 2012-11 An Unexpected Gathering #10233 2012-12 Horizon Express #10237 2013-07 Tower of Orthanc If you are looking for the set to load up on now, in hopes for a quick flip, you are playing this game differently than I and I can not help you.1 point

Gave away a Vampyre Hearse to a family friend. They have no actual lego sets, just bricks and can't really afford new sets - it only cost me $9 so it's not a big deal, not as if I am giving away a SSD!1 point

The Big Question is how long does Lego Have the License for on the Camper, the end of this year will be 3 years, when the License is up production has to stop. And its not cheap for Lego to get the rights to make sets. So this should be it on the Camper with the Mini Cooper coming out. But Everybody should be getting one or so whenever they can, don't wait until Dec and say why didn't I start getting these a year or so ago.1 point
