  3. Hello fellow BrickPickers... Starting October 1, 2014, BrickPicker will be starting a BrickPicker Blog Group. In the past, we utilized blog contests to acquire new content. We would like to improve on that method and actually pay experienced and knowledgeable BrickPicker members to write new content for the site. The content will be similar to older blog articles and reviews, with a heavy emphasis on LEGO investing...but any quality LEGO topic can qualify. Qualified members will earn a $5 Gift Card to Amazon, LEGO S@H, etc... for every 1000 words/5000 characters in the content that is submitted and approved by Jeff and myself. There is a new application in the Wordpress blog editor that tracks this and the "readability" of the blog. It is one method that I will use to differentiate quality writing from poor writing and helps take photos and images out of the equation as well. I will talk more about this to approved blog writers. How does one become an approved blog writer? Several ways. Mods will have access to the group and will be able to post new content. Previous blog contest winners/runner ups are automatically qualified to be a blog writer. Jeff and I will invite some people who we think would be qualified to write content(if they are interested in doing so). Also, members can either produce content or show me previous work that indicates high literary ability. Approval is not guaranteed, but we will be honest and fair with any member that is interested in joining the group. We are trying to up the content bar. Jeff is working on a new homepage that will have a more interactive blog section to it. Some blog writers will have the ability to produce daily updates/content on the homepage that be front and center on the homepage. We want to produce "new" content, not just post links from other sites...and are willing to pay for it. If you are interested in joining this group and believe you are qualified, let me or Jeff know by PM. We will be sending out some invites to people over the next week or so. If you want to start writing, you can begin in the Wordpress blog editor. Please ask Jeff or I to enable your access to the Wordpress editor. There will be a private forum for blog writers and I will go over the new editor app and readability indexes with members. Also, Jeff will come up with a basic tracking system for blog writers that shows what they have produced and how much they earned. Any questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks...

  4. Not sure yet. 3 confirmed. What I do because I'm so awesome and have great friends is send out a mass text. I'll know by the end of the night who wasn't too busy at work or whatever and got me one. It's a technique that's worked in the past for me. You just have to have awesome friends and family Members. And I'll flip them a few extra bucks or lunch for their troubles.

  5. They emailed me again asking for the extra shipping charges and I immediately replied that my attorney would be contacting them to talk about: Bait and Switch, Breach of Contract and False Advertising over this. They almost instantly replied saying they would waive the shipping charges for me. I would suggest everyone do the same if you want to keep your orders. I really don't think they are legally allowed to do this (without having seen any disclaimer on the free shipping) and should not be trying to do so.

  8. Since this is an unchartered territory for most of us, I am starting a new thread to keep everything organized and in one place. Looks like different BPers are having different issues with their orders, feel free to post your experience here. All my orders are marked as shipped at this point, but I didn't go crazy on Sunday over to you

  10. That has always been a no-no for me. I am "Spanky" on this site and this site only. Every website I visit I create a new username. I've never used my primary eBay account name anywhere but on eBay. I would never use my real name (or anything that connects to my identity) anywhere. This isn't just a matter of avoiding retailer bans, it is controlling what information people can find out about me online. Example: Let's say I was a malicious individual. What if someone make posts here that reveal they have significant resources to invest into LEGO, and there is enough information posted by that person (either here or on other boards under the same username) for me to figure out where they live. Now that person could unfortunately be a target for robbery. To each their own, but I go out of my way to keep my online "personas" not easily connected to my personal identity.

  12. Do a full refund through paypal. In a few minutes it will show up in ebay as unpaid. Then open case / cancel, choosing buyer changed mind or made mistake. Buyer has 7 days to respond and accept. If they accept you get your FVF back right away. If they do not respond on day 8 you can make the request from ebay to get back the FVF.

  13. I'm sure you did, but be sure to choose the "buyer changed mind" option whenever you do this (and whenever that's what happened) - that prevents your eBay account from getting a defect strike due to a cancellation.

  20. The Lego Starwars 10143 Death Star II is an iconic Lego set that most of us know. I have been on the lookout for this for quite awhile and whenever i saw one i couldn't get it for a right price or i got sold under my nose again. Yesterday i lost another auction on this set so i decided to start Bricklinking it. I wan't to see how much its gonna cost me to collect all the part. At first i'm going to try to keep it to Dutch stores only and i'm already 2.000+ bricks in. The reason i decided to start this topic is that perhaps you guys like to follow the process, i will keep updating this topic till this set is standing at my desk! (I'm going to try at least ) Tell me if you guys like the idea, if it is worth updating on haha. Currently working on sorting the parts using Brickstore. Collecting Bricklink Carts in seperate files.

  26. When this happens I always imagine these guys from "higher up" play a joke on the call center: "Do you want to hear all the phones start ringing?" Let's set a retiring set on 'call to check' for 10 minutes, of course without any real stock behind this. I guess it works every time.

  27. Very good move to unlock value for shareholders. Ebay traffic is declining considerably and on its own does not make much money. Paypal was the breadwinner in this relationship but Ebay was dead weight for shareholders. This will mean ebay will likely open up its platform to alot more payment processors. Stripe was rated the number one processor for 2014 so ebay would be foolish not to integrate it. Also apple pay will be a dominant player in 1-2 years so ebay will have to take them onboard. If Jack Ma introduces a platform in the USA and keeps it free for a number of years (as is his MO) ebay will decline alot faster than it already is under John Donahoe. No doubt they see the writing on the wall. Let's not forget google as a possible buyer for ebay after the split. In 5 years ebay will be like overstock is today.

  28. Lots of newer stuff, Star Wars, Artic Theme, Lego Movie sets, 20% off, then they had a 15% off coupon too for about ~32% off. Free shipping too. There is still some stuff to be had depending on what you want. Check the DD thread for the code.

  30. It's def. a MOC. If that where an actual set then ship buffs would have be going off about it like they do on the flagship. Did some quick google image searching but came up with nada.

  31. Genuinely thanks for your advice sounds like you have expertise in it. I do have to say you made me think of a few hilarious things: - You know what they say, 100 heads are better than 1? - Where did that person on ebay come up with a box of heads for sale? Oh wait its Lego - I should throw an Indiana Jones Swordsman with Sword in with the head auction and say "There can only be one highlander!" ROFL

  33. More off-topic with Maersk but it HAS made a round in U.S. Retail- the two I have came from Legoland CA just this last August. Interesting, however, I did NOT see them in standard Lego stores (keeping in mind TLG and Legoland are two independent entities). Whether this means anything, I do not know.

  37. I really love all those nice displays! (And storage room photos of well though I thought there was a thread especially for that). There are quite some great pictures and I especially love the fact that there are other nutcases who love LEGO like I do Don't really have any big displays right now since I lack the space and the time to do so. But I got my minifigs displayed and maybe some here enjoy the pictures so I'll post some of them ^.^

  38. No reason to freak out. Like justafrog stated most transactions go fine. Most people are just giving you some advice of how you can protect yourself more and possibly knock that percentage of problems down even more. A lot of this was only brought up to begin with about the Tumbler and how high it could possibly go. That set would be susceptible to a higher percentage of scams as it could go double, triple, quadruple, only to back down a month later. That was what the point was about most of the suggestions made. A set that just has normal holiday growth which is most all of the sets out there is not going to cause these issues to begin with. You'll always have some customers with buyers remorse but that is just part of business. The suggestions made the past few weeks by myself and others are just to help out some people that have not sold on ebay as much before and let you know what to look out for. Just sell your items with good pics and detailed descriptions, ship fast, and take care of any problems you come across and you should have a successful holiday sales season. Don't forget January sales are usually very strong as well as people get cash / gift cards for Christmas so don't think you have to sell everything before Christmas. January has been one of my most successful months for years. Less competition and people with money to spend, and you don't have the unhappy customers that buy a few days before Christmas and are unhappy it didn't get there in time. T

  44. I'm wondering why anyone would flip this set for double the money. LEGO already stated this would be a "limited" set. Why settle for making less than $30 on this set? This set will easily hit the $100 mark after EOL and that will be sooner than later. This set is a keeper, not a flipper.
