I was contacted by Volvo to post a design video of the LEGO Technic L350F Wheel Loader. It's definitely an interesting video to watch. I love these types of behind the scenes and design videos. You can buy this set for $249: LEGO | Amazon |6 points

Only about 20% of Lego Investors will wait 8-10 years after this or any set retires, some will crack after a few months only if they will only make a few dollars. Even I never waited that long. And that goes for just about any set, its easy to say I can wait, but everybody will find out its far from easy.4 points

One of the smaller Arctic Sets. I've been please with the whole series. I'm hoping that my next build will be The Lonely Mountain.2 points

You do realize the first holiday season since it's retirement is still 50 days away? I think time will tell, once we get to March 2015.2 points

I guess that would be more expensive than to get one from an ebay reseller right now.2 points

37R4, and they couldn't fill the backorders?? What, the produced only a hundred in that run? :shocked:2 points

This is the perfect set to box up your inventory of, put away, and forget for eight to ten years. Massive investment volume will hurt this model in the short and medium time frames... But as a long-term HOLD this has all the ingredients: iconic/timeless model, no remake potential, displays beautifully and the details are extraordinary. It will take time but the last guy holding this in inventory is going to be sitting on a gold mine.2 points

They will figure it out. They have banned multiple IP addresses though ordering anonymously to other people. They have banned multiple CC numbers, and they have banned gift cards used to pay to the multiple IP addresses and other people. They don't like me very much. Tread Lightly..1 point

Sorry they had plenty of Town halls in stock and a built display of it.1 point

eBay has them brand new for $160USD and higher. This is already money in the bag even at $150CAD. I bought two more and shipped it to one of our offices in Canada.1 point
-
I think they meant "limited" in availability sense. In USA, you can't buy it anywhere besides Lego itself (well, and reseller scum)1 point
-
The history of Maersk branded sets and it's limited availability are two GREAT reasons to get it now.1 point
-
I was telling people to get this set most of last year, if you check ebay they are going for $130-180, now for us guys that gut these for around $80 or so the set is doing OK, should be around $200 by Christmas and higher in 2015. Most sets take time to get big money, one exception looks like the Haunted House will sky rocket very fast, just check ebay now. On The Helm's Deep unless you need the money wait another year.1 point
-
The cost is long term - a collector/investor (convestor?) can buy a used set now for $100 US or less and keep a NISB set for resale down the road. The NISB set will have significantly more value and THAT is the cost of opening a set now. You benefit from building the set and having the new one to sell down the road. I love opening new sets but I only open new release sets and the further sets are in their respective "life" cycles, I avoid opening them and look for them used.1 point
-
90% of Lego sets don't pop out of the gate. Takes a slower steady growth over 2-3 years. Additionally, Helm's Deep retired with plenty of notice. I don't remember much panic buying since it wasn't an exclusive (meaning, most of us purchased our target # of inventory at nice discounts 4-8 months before it retired).1 point

I'd like to think they have a stash somewhere just waiting for me, but how many backorders did they have to fill for this thing? I still don't understand how they don't know how many they have/will have and why they have to cancel orders. You would think the largest toymaker in the world could buy a better inventory system.1 point
-
The waiting is the hardest part.... Tom Petty aside, it is tough to hold. I am waffling on selling off a few larger sets this holiday season, when I know that they probably still have time to grow. Still, I have limited resources and I want to buy, buy, buy, so there is an allure to selling off at a decent profit instead of holding another year. (Not to mention storage issues...and my wife would like to see some boxes go to the post office...)1 point

Oh, one thing on pricing, don't use the current inventory average when you auto price your inventory - the price guide is tampered with by a few individuals & is totally out of wack with reality - $10,000 for a single 1x plate really??? always use the average sales price & adjust from there to get an actual view of real transactions.1 point

Yeah, can't agree enough about the BL forums. At the very least, if you must read the forums, don't let the minority of sour apples ruin it for you. Some very bitter people are on there that are still mentally dealing with the Jezeks selling to the Korean company.1 point

When parting sets on Bricklink (BL) make sure you count each & every part (don't assume your set will always match the inventory), many of the catalogue inventories are incorrect, frequently change, are country specific and part substitutions from TLG are getting much more common as are missing parts from MISB sets. Be aware BL clients are not your average play-builders, many are hardened collectors and very high level build-for-display enthusiasts thus they are much much more finicky about part quality, even new parts that show common manufacturer scratched are often rejected by buyers. Buy first, you need at least 20 orders/feedback to really be trusted - simply buying several $1 orders (and from at least a couple international vendors) shows just as well as several $50 orders. Stay out of the forms on BL! Can't stress this enough! Don't even read them, they will do nothing but discourage you from what is a great community. right now BL is being so corrupted by soured individuals it's no longer the happy community it once was before the hacking incident & sale to a commercial enterprise a couple years ago. it's still a great platform - just don't fall into the forum snake pit - apparently less than 20% of members really go in there anyway. Count your order multiple times, print out the order form & check off each piece as you pull the order, mark a check a second time as you pack the order - things can go bad if you miss a single seemingly unnecessary part or pull the wrong colour if you have the wrong type of buyer. You need all positive feedback! Neutrals are Negatives - your Percentage rating on the top of every page of your store is a total of Positives - negatives - neutrals (and it displays your count of orders that you made & didn't receive feedback for against your total orders as well). you will always need to take the higher road & be willing to bend to keep the customers happy even though you may know you are right - it's just a cost of doing business there. it's still fun & 95% of orders will be easy & work out well - there's 4% more you may have to curtail your own "knows" just to bring to a happy-for-the-buyer conclusion & there are 1% that are just cut-your-losses 'cause you're in no way going to win. Take a look at the bigger stores terms, they know what they are doing & have found all the disclaimers they need over years of selling. & remember many of the terms are not based in the real world - things like "I'm not responsible once the package is mailed" doesn't fly - yes you are until the buyer has the item & is happy they can still hit you anyway. "Every order is a binding Contract" no it's not! not in any form of imagination - any buyer can back out for any reason they want - Buyers have all the power, they will always get their full monies back or damage you in revenge - you just have to roll with it, you'll always make up the difference in future sales - just "let it go" when you need to. Always under grade your parts & over deliver - BL buyers are refined (picky) & they will let you know one way or another... even the least notable thing should be mentioned in the description. Pack well, spend a little extra time in presentation - it makes a world of difference... - always send something with the order number on it, packing slip etc. most Bricklinker's order multiple orders from many vendors at a time - don't let yours get mistaken for a bad one from someone else. - Never pack new & used together - buyers hate that! - you already sorted your inventory, pack things separately so the buyer doesn't need to - but don't over do it that offends some. Bricklink is still a viable selling platform & is relatively inexpensive to do so - it's allot of work and allot of time so ya have to be in it for the fun of it as much or more than for the $$$1 point

Go download brickstock and use it to upload your inventory. Brickstock will let you add your inventory and download the average prices per item, then manipulate them en masse as you want to (increase/decrease,etc) Running a BL store is about 500% more work then I anticipated. Mostly the drudgery of sorting, labeling, etc. If you've already run an ebay parts store with bricks that won't be new to you. On the upside the BL buyers have to be the nicest clients I've ever run across.1 point

Hm, looks like I will most likely not be opening the HH I have for Halloween decoration at this point. I think Arkham Asylum will be an adequate substitute. It is creepy enough for Halloween according to popular opinion around the household.1 point

bought one more HH today from the Lego shop, didn't have enough cash to pay for the second one as I had other sets having to pay for as well. At the end of the day lets not be too greedy...1 point

Ok, I was playing mario kart 8 with a friend and I finished 1st on the circuit "haunted mansion", killing toad with a banana in front of the arrival ! It's a sign, so I got one more ^^ and I'll see if I'll get even one more on october. I just hope it will not be canceled, having one more waiting to be shipped...1 point

just got back from a road trip and hit 3 Lego B&M stores, These items were absent from all 3 HH, GE, Sopwith, Maresk, SSD. Asked and they do not expect to get any of these back in stock. They all had plenty of Pet Shops and a couple of DS.1 point

Bought a Tumbler. I don't know why. I don't want to build it, it is too early to invest in it, and I hate flipping. I'm sure I'll find something to do with it.1 point

That's a great idea. Donate them to the Salvation Army or Toys for Tots. The smile it will put on a child's face this holiday season is worth a lot more than the couple of bucks you will make off of them IF anyone buys them. Plus that child may just grow up to be a future AFOL who will spend the big bucks later.1 point

What I've learned in my so far short career in lego investing is that one needs patience. Not all sets can be winners right away. Sone qre, so if you own some of them, sell those. Easy money does not exist. Or everybody would invest in Lego. Many people qre in it for the quick flip. Which is totally fine. Deal and act as your financial situation allows you. And never take any debt for buying lego, never! As for Helm's Deep, I think this is the best set in the theme. Unfortunately I only own one. It will grow slowly but certainly. I do not like LOTR at all, but this set is an exception for me. It looks really impressive.1 point

While I do respect people's opinions, I would have personally kept this one to myself. If one suffers from degrees of mental illness like he did, there is no way you can comprehend what he did. You were not him and have no idea what he went through in his life dealing with it. I am not sticking up for or agreeing with his actions, but I am not going to judge him or anyone else. P.S. I will probably be locking this thread soon since I already have the gut feeling it will go downhill very soon.1 point

So sad! He was a great comedian/actor. Really funny and overall appeared to be a truly genuine guy. RIP Patch Adams.1 point

I'm at a lose this morning. This shouldn't be affecting me, but it is. I've watched Tony Gwynn play since he was a rookie. I followed his entire career. I bought a ticket to the game in Montreal, where he hit his 3,000th hit (I didn't attend...I just guessed and bought a ticket for the game). I attended what was supposed to be his last game (the schedule got rearranged after 9/11). I booked my hotel and made plane reservations months before he was elected to Hall of Fame. I was there with 100,000 other people to see his Induction to the Hall of Fame. I had the honor of meeting him on numerous occasions. From autograph signings here in San Diego, to driving down the freeway and waving at him, to just giving a "hey Tony" when he was shopping at the mall with his kids. I don't believe in sports herpes, but man, Tony was *my* sports hero. He went to my alma mater. He coached at my alma mater. He was the best player on my favorite team, in my favorite sport. I wore #19 whenever I played beer league softball. Tony was my guy.1 point
