  4. You can put your own terms, they just don't matter if the customer files something. Case can be opened up to 90 days and paypal will be moving to 180 day returns. You can combat some by putting in a restock fee into your terms. It sometimes discourages the buyer from it but then you run the risk of a low DSR / Bad feedback etc. Safest way you could kind of "pick your buyer" is saying they were $800 at Xmas just put a higher BIN with best offer. Not something to high as you want to get offers but not low enough it will get hit to quickly. You can then do some research on the person who made the offer. Look at feedback amount (most all negative/neutral feedback comes from buyers with under 50 feedback, close to 50% of what I have tracked over the years) Buying activity (make sure its not the first purchase in a long time by the buyer) Feedback left for others (most troublesome users have a pattern of leaving high amounts of neutrals and negatives when they don't get there way) Length of ebay account being open If the user name has changed the last 30 days

  9. You have to figure that a huge number of these sold will get ripped open and built on Christmas morning. Some people want it under the tree and they'll pay for that.

  10. I've been rebuilding my 80s space sets for the first time in 25 years and displaying them around the house. Staring at all those blue (and other coloured) astronauts, it's tempting to turn them into easy cash but I'd sooner donate internal organs.

  16. I'd like to think so but from collectors point of view, what would be a priority? I would say every city needs a fire hall over a mall but the GE looks impressive. On top of that I think the TH will do well in the 2ndary for the same reason, everyone needs a town hall in their city. It's also a great spot for the delorean to hang out with the clock tower. :D

  18. A lot of people think city sets aren't worth the time, but there are some gems out there. I had sold all of my space centers previously, but then reloaded when TRU had them on clearance for $40.xx this past summer. It's been trending up. As far as the monster fighters, if you're looking to sell this year now is the time to do it, and I think selling as a lot is the way to go. I just started listing mine about a week ago, and they are drawing lots of attention/watchers. This year I'm just trying to move my small sets. I'll keep all of my HH and the rest of my Vampire Castles for the long haul.

  23. No matter what, this set is pure plastic gold. I think I might try a lobster in the spa. 4 days of lego-free bliss. "Oh sir, and how will you pay, VISA, Mastercard?" "Rover, dear sir"

  24. I agree with you that there seems to be a higher number of speculators and I am relying on the likelihood that they will be selling these sets early in retirement and my sets will experience higher growth later in retirement.

  30. there are some unique parts, like the cattle catcher that I dont have, but its all good, if i did it correctly, aside from parts that were not available at the store, it would cost me 35$ without the minis and some of the special pieces, i am gonna look at the instructions and see what parts of it all i dont need (maybe the car, i dont know) and see what i can do, thanks for all the help everyone!

  35. Who was the seller, Amazon or third party? Did the description say anything about wear, dings, etc. on the box (if you bought it from AWD, then the description should have told you these things). If there was nothing in the description indicating that the box was damaged, then for a $150 set you should definitely call and complain.

  38. I can see paying $300 for this set in this particular situation. We are in somewhat uncharted territory here with LEGO's warning of no substantial inventory till next year. You might be able buy one or more on eBay and use quadruple eBay bucks and save on taxes to make it less painful.

  40. 100% have to do insurance for the full price. Signature Confirmation - I might even go sig confirmation by the person themselves. Pack it like you would pack a child (don't ship a child). Skimping is the way to screw yourself on a huge item. Make sure that thing could take a steam roller. The buyer sounds good - wouldn't worry too much there.

  42. For all you guys who thought there is no way Emazers has 60 haunted Houses. I took these pictures before I boxed them up, Picture shows 59 HH, and I already had 5 Boxed up, and I sold 2 of them on a trade last week. Now if Lego gets anymore I will be buying More. I get alot of emails and talk to alot of you guys on the phone and as most no I have told everybody to start getting the Haunted House when ever you can don't wait to the last minute, and alot of you have taken my advice and have been buying them, as usual alot didn't. I just don't understand how some people didn't get any in 2 years, and alot of you that didn't get any or only a few would rather spend hundreds and thousand of dollars running around all day at Walmart, target, etc and buying clearance stuff, Now Some of the stuff was a good deal Like Sail barges $50-70 and a few other things, but overall stuff that will be sitting around forever. How many of you guys can look at all that clearance and other small cheap stuff and say why did I spend all that money on that instead of buying SSD,HH,TB,GE,Etc.

  43. Velocity rate beyond "the norm" in algorithms does trigger at least a review. Beyond that, what exactly they look and and what they do with that info is a bigger mystery. No doubt that some good sellers get swept up in the big net, and eBay doesn't care, nor do they need to care - plenty more seller fish in the sea. Re: where to sell - this site in time once Brick Classifieds launches, Bricklink, Brick Owl, and by all means give Amazon a try but realize that they, too, have their algorithms that can trip you up, so make sure you understand the rules in every direction. Between your velocity and a pretty low feedback rating - 99.2% isn't good with 4000+ feedback - you probably had a lot of star dings and possibly a number of cases opened, etc. eBay (and Amazon) are not forgiving environments. You need to protect your selling account very carefully, and that means under-promising and over-delivering to customers, it means accepting the occasional scammer as a cost of doing business instead of trying to die on every hill, it means not being late in shipping pretty much no matter what (have emergency plans in place), etc. Good luck in the future - eBay's not the only place to sell, take the lessons from there and go succeed somewhere else - it's the best revenge.

  44. Anyone else love the "Well I have seen these go for X" line in the Best Offer. Yeah I don't care what you have seen them go for. Buy those then.

  45. You're wrong, unless you mean you'll make a UPS claim for the money to refund the buyer for the damaged item. As the seller, you are responsible for the item arriving to the buyer in the condition it was described. If your shipping company damages the item, that's on you, and both eBay and PayPal will back the buyer on that. Re: partial refunds vs. returns - I agree that partial refunds are often the cheaper way to go, but keep in mind that sellers caving to these over and over has created a small percentage of buyers on eBay who claim there's something wrong with everything they get, to get a little money back. Requiring a return for a full refund spikes their guns nicely - they don't want to send stuff back, they want to keep it and get some money back too - so if the buyer is one of these numpties they won't take the offer of a full refund upon return, they'll just go away.

  47. It's a cool idea and looks great when you are finished, but I like the look of the older classic sets. For some of the older sets, I don't want to change a thing about them.
