I have no problem with a user taking photos and showing there accomplishments of sets they've purchased, especially when that is a set they have recommended numerous times to other members. I do also agree its best to start early on these sets so you do have the time to build them up before they do disappear. I do have a problem with the second half of the statement basically belittling people for there choices of going and looking for the deals at Wal-Mart, Target. I for one enjoy going and so does my family. We plan weekend trips all around the southeast and stop in a lot of the stores on the way. Its a great way to break up the drive and walk around a little and possibly make some money at the same time. Theres a lot more to this hobby then just the investing part of which most of us are still collectors. The best run yet was when my daughter found the Vampyre Hearse and Mad Scientist to go with her Haunted House! The smile on her face makes it much more worthwhile then any of the money I make on Lego. Everyone has there owns strategies, budgets, and methods of Lego investing. Theres plenty of small and originally populated sets out there that aren't exclusives that have made a lot of money and gone double and triple value so to say one set is better than the other and only stock up on those sets is kind of pointless. Sure exclusive sets do well for the most part but they also are the trickiest to build up without getting banned. It could be argued the time going to all the websites and compiling all the discounts to get these sets in quantity just as "wasteful" management of time as driving around to stores. Only difference is you don't use gas. It all is work, time, energy, and money and however one wants to do it is there business. It goes back to thinking before you speak on the internet. The whole bottom of the post was just not called for. Most everyone is on this site with a similar goal of making money. How each person does it is up to them. Its fine to give advice which lots of members do but to generalize that if people don't do what you say then basically blast them on a public forum is not what the site is designed for. I've had a good time on this site and its nice to be able to give advice and receive it on a daily basis. There just is no reason to put people down.

While I don't agree with all of Ed's posts or methods, I for one appreciate any pictures that he posts and the help that he offers other members. Ed offers his time and advice to many members behind the scenes. I agree with him about purchasing these exclusives earlier than later. Too many people put off buying important sets like the HH, SSD, Fire Brigade, etc... to buy multiples of smaller sets that cost the same thing, but will take you 5-10 times as much work selling, packaging and sending them. I am not knocking small sets, because I own plenty, but investors and resellers should prioritize purchases to make sure they can take advantage of "special" sets like the HH. I can understand how many feel that a post like this is bragging. I like to look at it as a post that shows the sacrifices a person makes to obtain such a large amount of LEGO sets.

Picked up a complete, built once, Winter Village Bakery for $50 off CL.

It's easy on the buying side to be unaware of postage charges (no, you cannot send a minifigure in a simple first class letter envelope - and if you do, it's going to be crushed by the sorting machinery as it goes through the system, if it's not sent to you postage due for being too thick). $1.93 is the rock bottom postage cost, with an online discount, for sending up to a 3 ounce package. I don't know where you come up with the idea that all sellers have a stack of free padded envelopes sitting around, but that's just silly. Some folks may be able to keep up on their orders with recycled packaging, but certainly not all. If I weren't charging enough to cover the purchase of my packing materials, I'd have to charge enough to cover my time to dumpster dive or call up and visit various businesses to collect their recycled packaging to use. And while we're on the subject of time: it's not free. Any seller who is not selling for fun, but rather profit, must factor in their time as a cost. All that said, we're all going to run into buyers who think our time is worth nothing and we're all just trying to rip them off by charging an extra $1.50 past postage, so I eliminate the hassle of dealing with MOST such complaints by embedding most of my cost of doing business in the item prices and charging exact postage. That won't help me in cases like this where the buyer has no concept of postage costs or rules, but luckily that's a minority.

Honestly, what is the purpose of this post? Why do you keep throwing it in people's faces if they don't listen to you or question you ("For all you guys who thought there is no way Emazers has 60 haunted Houses."). Not everyone have your expenses (lack of), bankroll, space, etc... Personally, there are others like me who can challenge you in buying sets but we don't pound our chests publicly.

I just checked my Two Face from the 7781: The Batmobile: Tow-Face's Escape. I also noticed that there are some white spots in the black portion. My guess is that it is a combination of a small printing mistake and then the mistakes becoming more visible due to wear from being older.

The problem is you have to look on the sellers terms page to see their shipping policy. Even then they are not always clear. If they could calculate shipping based on weight it would eliminate a lot of confusion. That's one reason why I like Brick Owl. If only they had the selection that Bricklink has.

After reading this post and many others in this thread, my question is to the sellers that sell a minifigure for $8 or $9 shipped. Why bother? Considering the cost of the minifigure, packaging, gas to the post office, wear and tear of vehicle and your time, you are probably losing money.

Only some sellers and some buyers - there are unreasonable people, scammers, and the criminally insane on both sides. Mostly, most transactions are completed by two rational parties who are pleased with the arrangement.

I bought most of mine when Walmart screwed up. I do not build lego but once a year and my only real interest in lego is making money. With that said this is my favorite set of all time. It just appeals to me on many levels. David Beckham agrees and he has my looks and athletic ability so I'd listen to him.

That is one big flaw of bricklink. Sometimes you don't know what their "shipping/handling" charges are until you get their invoice. I wish bricklink would be able to calculate that automatically before you complete the transactions. To ship 1 fig it should only cost $1.92 with tracking.

The BL gods won't kick you out... But if you've already made up your mind then I don't understand what the problem is. And dude, you're upset about a $1.50. If it's that important, ask the seller to cancel. Free to ask. I guess some people have the time to complain and some have the time to criticize those that do. :)

1st class w/ tracking is going to cost at least 1.93 (if they get the discount). Adding a handling charge is very common on Bricklink (it is the only way to make small purchases worthwhile for the seller). Sellers will usually state things pretty clearly (minimums, etc), but they don't have to. While the $3.50 sounds excessive - it seems somewhat in line on Bricklink (the "no fee charged" sellers would likely just sell the minifig for more) As far as backing out - you can mention to the seller that you didn't realize that it would cost so much to ship - most will cancel, and move on.

Either way, you both are a couple of meatheads.

PS Since I work for a printing company a book is a bound manual with printed sheets between the outer cover that wraps around and glues to the cover. I love to collect Books too.

EXACTLY - there were words???? i didn't know there were any words to the post until i saw all the followups - i was also wrapped in the best lego hoarding porn of the last 2 or 3 weeks. it's inspiring to see a photo like that and also at the same time tells you there is someone crazyier out their then ewe and you need to up yer game. sticks and stones. i don't think emazer's meant to put anybody down - its his way of doing a fist pump - think about how happy you would be if you had $10740 msrp of one set and it went of stock with presumed EOL . i'd be talking exclusive smack too. and when i think about all the harebrained road trips from the good for something sometime walart app, where i snagged 4 rancor pits for $160 VS another getting HH, part of me says he's right. at the same time, part of the fun of this hobby is scoring killer deals and snowballing those smaller sets or clearance deals into bigger sets. if we all invested in the same stuff exactly the same way it would be really boring.

Ed understands puncuation. I'm one who doesn't think emazers is bragging or putting anyone down. I like the fact that he isn't shy about advising people on what he thinks is a successful and less stress free way of speculating on LEGO (and other toys). There's a lot of guys out there who wouldn't give up their trade secrets. He does. Is it a simplistic "hit them where they ain't" way of doing things? Of course it is.....but it's (if you believe that he practices what he preaches) reassuring that he does it and is successful at it. I've never got the sense that he's belittiling anyone who can't spend the cheddar that he can (I've seen posts where's he's specifcally told people NOT to buy on credit unless you can pay it off every month) and in fact has said repeatedly to buy what you can...be it one or a hundred. I like hunting for bargains as much as the next guy....but he's convinced me that on speculatiing and holding for a few years.....the big sets are the way to go.

I give emazers props for what he does and I heed any advice that anybody on this forum shares. Like I said, I have no problem with the pics, I like seeing what people have, how they box/store them etc. it's all information that can be used in some manner, it's more of the "I told you so" tone comes across in the post I don't think forum members appreciate.

I picked up 150+ pounds of bulk this morning off of a craigslist add. Once I put all the boxes in my garage I opened the first one and was greeted by this. It's gonna be a good lot.

I'd like to go on record and say I wrote a big long post about how this set was going to be a winner. BttF was ranked #3 Sci-Fi movie of all-time by AFI (Star Wars was #5!!!) and lest anyone forget, next year is its 30th anniversary. It's also the year that Marty travels to in BttF II. 2015 is going to be a big year for this Lego set.

These are mesmerizing! Very professional, and that's coming from a filmmaker/video producer myself. If you really want to grow this into a self-sustaining channel, my one suggestion would be to use music and rhythm more to your advantage. Right now the pieces come in rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat which is cool, but fatiguing on the senses, and the music has a sameness throughout that doesn't necessarily match the set that we're watching. I found myself scrubbing ahead to other parts of the video just to see what else was going on, and any given moment was pretty much the same as any other given moment. Like Lego-building itself, it can get a little monotonous. I'd find some royalty-free music that matches the tone of the set itself and then mix up the speed at which your pieces appear to go along with the music. Some ragtime to go with a train set, crashing nautical anthem for a big boat, something out of Fantasia for a Friends build, etc. As an example, say you were building the SSD and wanted to use the Imperial March (yeah, I know you should stay away from copyrighted music, but I'm just picking something everyone is familiar with.) The opening BUM-BUM-BUM could show some of the big plates appearing in staccato fashion, then the bah-diddle-diddle part has little pieces zipping in to go with the quick strings. Just a suggestion. It's cool as it is now, but really making it into performance will kick it up to the next level. Either way, nice work!

I love how people are buying these all up now when I all I heard over the past two months is super smack talk and hoping other sets don't go "Delorean". I've always thought that this was a bada$$ set that will do well no matter what. BTTF is classic and not some flash in the pan. I have three. One for me to build and two to sell later.

3+ Years into this game and things are looking good. Newbies please reread that. It has taken 3 YEARS. I have turned over minimal inventory during that time as life's bills requirements dictated. Adopting expenses and buying a home. Neither was cheap and both happened this calendar year...ouch on the pocketbook. A new holiday selling season is upon us. I currently have about 920+ sets inventoried with another 30 plus loose sets not accounted for. Within that inventory about 1/3+ has appreciated to levels that meet my goals for selling. A key note is most of that sellable inventory was bought in 2011/2012 with only a few exceptions. So I have waited 2-3 years to achieve gains that align with my goals. Can some do it better with more opportune buying, most definitely. But this is my path. In my brief time playing this game I have seen a few, definitely a minority of sets which could be flipped quickly. Research Institute, 41999 (early selling), Exo Suit, early selling of minecraft and a few others the community could help point out. Trouble is the competition is fierce on these flip worthy sets. So if you work full time and cannot be online at any given moment to snap up inventory then many of those easy money sets will be elusive. I also need to take more advantage of points/coupons/buying strategies to save as much upfront money as possible. Personally I don't worry that much about them. Sure I hate to pass up free money but I have not been online at the right time for any of the offerings. I am seriously bumming on missing the Wal-Mart 10214 Tower Bridge orgy. By the time they are posted here the inventory is poofed. Point is this game takes time to develop with a few exceptions that are an exception. All this is just my opinion based on what I have encountered. Your results may be different.

Its Like I said every would be investor says that they can play the waiting game, but it boils down to around 75% of investors crack within a year or so.

I'm sure some kids are seeing it, but my kids won't. Too dark at times, too much language and violence. I loved it, though. Just a little too much for kids in my opinion. I mean, groom impaled 30 people in that one scene.
