I sold my very first set today. RI for $52us +shipping. (And a fiasco of printing two seperate shipping labels). Because this was my first sale on eBay, or anywhere, I added a bonus polybag (but they don't know that) for taking a chance on a first time eBay seller. I'm on my way to millions!!!7 points

There is nothing leading to the conclusion that Lego was ever against the project which became the Research Institute set or they only produced it just because of a random letter from somebody4 points

At one point I was convinced it was going to be the greatest show ever. Then the last season came. Now, I was a mega fanatic, listened to the podcasts, visited all the sites, investigated all the mysteries (wish I had poured that energy into Lego back then). But the show creators stopped caring about answering the mysteries. And in their podcast years earlier they said that it was not all a religious purgatory but it was...those other people had died and were waiting for Jack to die so they could complete their ascension into whatever heaven or such that they were going to. Bogus, stupid, religious ending. Like everything Lindelof touches, it ends up being about religion, see Prometheus (Jesus was an engineer, google it). I refuse to watch the Leftovers because I know it will be all about god. And the thing about pulling the cork in the cave...really dumb. It peaked with all the Faraday time travel stuff but then just unravelled completely.3 points

Really wasn't a feature that was talked about or used all that much. I will revisit it again after a few of these other products are released. Right now, my main goals are to get classifieds launched, a site update for certain areas and a new mobile app that we haven't talked about that goes with one of our new features. Based on the direction this site has headed in, we feel it will be something useful to many.2 points

There is one RI set on ebay at $87. The next lowest is $93. I anticipate ebay to be $100 by Labor Day. Lego has clearly told me on the phone that the letter from the little girl came in after their decision to release the set. That could be true or may not be but that is what I was told and that the letter did not effect the decision. With all of that in mind I might be more of the opinion to say $19.99 retail for a 150 piece set with 3 mini figures is underpriced. Not from a buyers perspective but from Lego caring enough to mass produce this, print boxes, distribute and freight costs. Are they really making that much money off of it? I think this set is done. I find it interesting comments that state it is coming back with not even pointed rumors to justify the statement. You cannot trust LEGO Shop at Home information but at least their firm statements construed as rumors are pretty clear. If someone has something to prove it is going into full manufacturing I would like to hear the rumor and source. However, If it reaches $100 on eBay I will most likely unload most of mine.2 points

It makes it a much easier decision to hold if you only have 2-4 of these. If you have 30-50, unload, IMO. It might not be worth the risk to lose out on the money on the table right now.2 points

She's just one of the folks who gains enjoyment writing to sellers to tell them their prices are too high. You get them sometimes. I always seem to end up behind them in the line at the supermarket. You can ignore their messages, or send back a polite, "Thank you for your interest, but this is our best price at this time."2 points

Considering the success of Lego and DC cartoons over the last few years, they could do worse than putting out a recurring DC Lego cartoon the way they do for Ninjago and Chima. Kids would make that show a massive hit.2 points

That's amazing that they didn't sell. I think here they would have flipped out of that basket like hotcakes.1 point

You guys might be happy to know, no polybags sold. These aren't the bargains they were looking for.1 point

Yep. It's a fairly painless process. The store clerk will just have to figure out the differential on the sales tax.1 point

ok. r2 is a good set. don't discount even $35ish sets, some of the best ever ROI came from smaller sets like The Zombies, pretty much every Batman 1 set, Vader's Transformation, etc...1 point

Email notifications should be flowing again. I setup a new dedicated email server. I was using a service before and the cost was starting to get crazy. We average over 50k transactional emails a day and I don't want the webserver getting beat up sending them. Sorry for the delays.1 point

I don't usually recommend flipping sets, but if there was ever one that cried out to be flipped, it's this set. As I have mentioned before, this set had all the signs of being a limited run. As time on though and I read responses from LEGO and from fans, I get the sense that LEGO could rip off another run or two of these sets, just to quiet any complaints. The prices being paid for this set are now 5 times MSRP, which is fantastic. If any other set hit 5 times MSRP, people would be unloading them quickly. At this point, you have to ask yourself if holding onto this set is worth the risk? How high can it go? $150? $175? $200? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. If LEGO has stopped production of this set and with the XMAS holidays upon us in a few months, there is no telling how high this set could climb. Many consumers will forget what the item originally cost and will pay the inflated price. So therein lies the rub. Do you sell now at $100 to lock in profits or wait to possibly double current profits, risking another production run and losing any potential profit? I'm leaning towards the former....1 point

If anyone is thinking about grabbing two, wait until September 1 for the spaceman promo. You may have to add a keychain, but you'll get a much better (more valuable) give-away.1 point

Great post, redeemed. I would sell those MISB sets, and head to BL or CL to pick up a used copy of the same set. To me, there's no magic in cutting the seals on a set. Pocket the difference and still have a great set for buiding. Then when it's sat for a year in the basement, you can sell the used set for more than what you bought it for!1 point

I saw this calender on Brickset and looking from past years, this will probably sell for around $50 if it goes OOS and you can't find it anywhere. If you buy it at retail, and sell it for $50, you would make around $10 in profit after fees and other expenses. I wouldn't buy this set for $30 as an investment, but if the price was around $20, I would buy it.1 point

If supraboy and christopherjb ever met face to face, it would cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe! Granted, that's worst case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localized, limited merely to our own galaxy.1 point
