Welp since I work day shift now and won't be up for the midnight release let me answer some questions that will inevitably be asked. Yes we know of the s@h website is bogged down. You might not get an order confirmation email, it doesn't mean your order wasn't placed. If it happens to sell out don't worry it will be available for many months you won't miss out. No it isn't a UCS set. Yes it will be a solid investment down the road. Yes the Heath Ledger joker minifig will be sought after. Yes it will probably at your local Lego stores for sale to anybody. Yes I will have one tomorrow and it will be displayed on my desk at work by Tuesday. Did I miss anything? Apologies if I did.7 points

My son wanted a haunted house for his birthday last year. So I started my first MOC. I got the ideas from the LEGO PLAY book. There is a fantastic section under the name "when things go bump in the night". In the end we had a haunted village and used mostly this sets: 30200 zombie car 850487 Halloween minifig set 79005 lord of the rings 79001 hobbit spider set I also used as well bricks from the master builder adventure set. As I did not have enough grey/black bricks I ordered two castle sets without mini figures from ebay.4 points

It's funny...I had an old CL ad to sell the 10221 for $600 and have had no replies for two months. Today, I got one. He tried talking me down. You guys have convinced me to hold my stock.3 points

So more than a couple of times Ed Mack, site owner and Lego extraordinaire, has mentioned that he thinks the movies with renew and revitalize Star Wars and cause old and current sets to skyrocket, etc. While this is an opinion held by a lot of people, I certainly think that there has been some skepticism as well because of all the re-releases, the possibility of the new movies being less than desirable, and the overproduction that seems to be staring Star Wars Lego in the face (over 40 sets every year). I honestly have been a skeptic. In the Lego beginnings (I wasn't a part of it), Star Wars sets were all great investments. Lately, that hasn't been the case, even for what looked like pure winners like the 7964 Republic Frigate or the Tie Defender 8087, or the Wompa Cave 8089. But star wars may be back guys. Maybe I am the only skeptic - feel free to pronouce how many of these sets coming up you thought were winners - but I didn't and have none or very few of them. Honestly, none of these sets are better than these above, but they are winners either way. 9490 Droid Escape This may be the most confusing one to me. This set has C3po who hasn't been in a lot of sets, but is still not a premier char. IMO. It has a few exclusive figs, but really what else? The set is nothing... except that while it was deeply discounted and I passed a lot on clearance, its on its way doubling. 9492 Tie Fighter This might be less surprising - but its still a thrice remade set and one that was everywhere forever and maybe a bit overpriced. I am sad to say I have none of these. 9494 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor IMO an awful ship and one that has been remade over and over for no reason. Evidently that doesn't stop it from jumping up to almost doubling shortly after retirement. Still scratching my head. Malevolence 9515 This one is just recently retired and starting to really grow. Its an awesome set and I actually thought this one might be a sleeper. I include it because it was stupidly-available everywhere at Walmarts for 60$. I should have bought many many more. Never would have thought this was a 200$ set - not even from any of the movies - but that seems to be where its headed. 7879 Hoth Echo Base I compared this set several times to Mon Calimari. Its just not that impressive to me. But it has certainly done alright even with the TRU lingering effect. The are many more that are starting to look good. Pre Vizsla, Battle of Hoth, Republic Striker, and several others are just now starting to be gone and are already back to up to their MSRP. What does this mean? I am just dumb? (yes, but besides the point) Random blip? Just increased Lego popularity? Too much ignoring by resellers? Well these gains by themselves aren't amazing by any means compared to some other themes. However, I really am starting to believe these sets are doing better because of the renewed interest. To me, this means that once the Star Wars fever hits again, the next couple of years of sets are more are going to tip towards the "Star wars sets are always good investments" thought that used to exist. While I have largely ignored Star Wars sets that weren't UCS since I have been investing, I certainly can't do that again. And I wouldn't advise others to do the same either. Better and better games may be right around the corner. The emperor is back, and he certainly has a new groove.2 points

Maybe you should post this trade in the Brick Trader. I'm sure someone will want to trade a SSD for some HP sets.2 points

it was two week run 19R4/20R4 So, 20R4 would be the last known US "run" (or whatever that thing is)2 points

I just shipped a bunch of Lego to my long lost cousin in Nairobi. I didn't even know I had family in Africa! I just sent him my bank account so he can wire the money for them and my part of my long lost uncle's inheritance. I hope he uses his portion to bone up on his English skills because they suck.2 points

Dear Lego, I actively love building sets. I love the detail of the minifigures. I love the creative licences. But the world knows you have been charging ridiculous premiums for your product outside the US. The international market has tolerated it for so long. As discussed previously Amazon US has been coerced (whether it be temporarily or permanently) directly from Lego into ceasing international shipping. In recent years Amazon has been a hub for many international buyers to score Lego at cheaper costs than their local retail prices. Yet now the screws are being tightened. Lego has been banning users, placing limitations and now this. I thought it was ludicrous early last year when I legitimately could not buy a couple of Minecraft sets for my son and nephews due to limits. Who would have thought that people might want to order more than 1 or 2 of something right? The lack of discounts for "exclusive sets" is appalling. Let's be realistic, if there was a licence involved there would at least be some justification, however picking and choosing sets is a poor business model. All of a sudden, stores with those sets are not "allowed" to discount? Even stores in Australia are beginning to exhibit "This sale does not include Lego" signs. The war you are trying to wage on resellers is the wrong fight you are picking. Never have I seen a company so determined to stop customers buying their products. It enables customers to purchase items that have been discontinued or unavailable in their area due to the ridiculous restrictions you put in place yet you seem determined to do nothing but obstruct. The irony being your own customer service representatives point to reselling sites like Bricklink and eBay to find obscure parts or sets. Meanwhile, the collectability of some sets continues to diminish as fake minifigures flood the marketplace. Now discontinued sets are beginning to appear. The same collectability you have marketed is now driving counterfeit products, yet what does Lego focus on? Stopping consumers from legitimately buying their product. This isn't about someone coming in and purchasing 100 of one set but restricting customers purchasing abilities. Soon people will prefer to purchase the counterfeit items as a much cheaper alternative. The very marketplace you created and procured with your own product you are now destroying as the counterfeiters pull out a suitcase with 200 Iron Patriot minifigures at $1 each and hock off... whilst Lego stop people buying their product legitimately. Call it a rant, a whinge, a sook. Whatever. The despotism on display is ironic considering how close the company was to closing not that long ago. You are only shooting yourself in the foot. When is pushing your own customers out the door and restricting them from buying a great business model? Clone brands are already beginning to infiltrate the shopping aisles. eBay is flooding with cheap knockoff minifigures diminishing your product. The quality will only get better as they refine their techniques. Perhaps you should be combating those as opposed to loyal consumers purchasing your own product and pushing it to further success. Heaven forbid people actually want to purchase your product.1 point

I think what many of you who are still sitting on the fence with this set have to realize is that this is not the Fire Brigade, Tower Bridge or Grand Emporium or any other non-UCS/large/exclusive STAR WARS set that has recently retired or is close to retiring. This is the Big Boy of STAR WARS LEGO sets that was just marked EOL. The prices will only go up from here and in my opinion, much faster than other large LEGO set over the next 12-15 moinths. The new STAR WARS movies will act as a shot of HGH to this and other STAR WARS sets. It's already happening. I expect faster than normal appreciation for STAR WARS sets over the next year...especially this set. I know you can go buy 3 or 4 Grand Emporiums for the price of one current SSD at $600 and still do very well, but my gut tell me this set is going to explode. Take it for what it's worth. The STAR WARS buzz hasn't even really started yet and it is affecting the LEGO secondary market, wait till it ramps up in 6-8 months.1 point

TLG did not move stock from Europe. All backorder fulfilments at LEGO Shop at Home came with 19R4 codes. European SSDs have codes with "S"1 point

I think city park cafe and city garage were "retired" as well, but not sure. we need grolim to run some magic Maybe Winter Village Cottage got "retired" just now?1 point

Beauty shop is finally marked as retired, I think. Used to be forever in "sold out"1 point

While i get those topics may have a bearing on the future value of the SSD, can we refrain from posting spoilers in non spoiler threads? This could really ruin the movie for some folks if this type of info continues.1 point

Emazers also advised on buying H.House, Arkham Breakouts, Death Stars, Tower Bridge, building modulars, R2, B-Wings, VWs, and just every other large exclusive He was one of many talking about the 10221 set at least since I joined in 2012 I would agree though if you stated he was the loudest or typed the most posts and sitemails mentioning this set along the others :)1 point

Yeah I have had to call them a lot too. It pisses me off Ebay doesn't have an email form. can't complain because most companies would rather die than have you call them. But some things are easier over email.1 point

I think that most of us that grew up with the OT need to realize that they will never be duplicated. I'm not a huge Star Wars geek so I'm not devastated by flashbacks and stuff that die hards are worried about, but it will be near impossible to bring back the magic that was Star Wars back in the late 70s and early 80s.1 point

That's a good start. The first three are too rich for my blood. What I'm wondering is when they are going to announce the next modular. Seems like it should be soon.1 point

Nice work. Cool idea for a display project. Now it's things like this we should encourage more! As investors we want people to decide one day to start back collecting old sets like the modular lines, or all the LotR sets, or all the UCS sets, etc. That's what fuels a good chunk of secondary market price growth.1 point

Sold my last Catwoman today...have one built and son playing with it already so didn't mind letting this final sealed box go. $35 after fees and shipping costs. Still relatively new to this hobby - bittersweet to see some of the sets I purchased for investing when I started disappearing for good from my closet. Make way for new sets/opportunities. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank-you to Catwoman, Hulk, Cap Am, Two Face, Wolverine, Kingdom Chess set, 41999, TC-14, etc. for helping me with ROI the past 6-10months. My inventory is 'small' but hope to see Superman vs Lex, Spiderman Cycle, Rovers, Uruk Army, and Grand Emporiums bring in some steady ROI the next 6-12months Maybe Funhouse and Arctic Batman will be a surprise with nice margins before 2016 too.1 point
