After a lot of messing around between comparing images of the build on the box and even the original vehicle itself, this is what I managed to come up with. It does not use the full 152 piece count displayed on the box but I did use some big plates and bricks for the areas you cannot see. Knowing how Lego likes to use smaller bits in place of larger single ones (such as 2 2x4s instead of a single 2x8), I could replace some to bulk up the count. Still I feel like I did a respectable job with all things considered and am proud of the results. I have absolutely no idea what the back area really looks like other than guessing how Lego would tackle it themselves and glancing at the side shots eyeing the separation lines between bricks. Plus I compared sources of images for the box on eBay and the original car from the 1960s. Now before you jump my case, the dome piece does exist in black without any sort of printing which means this is completely Bricklinkable! Well, eventually anyway when The Phantom set from Star Wars Rebels is released or at least available to all. At this point the main areas I question are the seating area, the rear, that thing in the middle separating the driver from the passenger, and the placement of the antennas. If only there was an overhead shot and a back shot, this could be perfect. Until then here you go.

I am sure many of you have had the pleasure of building this set so I won't go in to a full review. I am taking this build slow, partly because I want to make it last, and also because a large amount of my time (outside of work) is spent with my wife and five month old son. This is my first big set, and modular, since I came out of my dark age. It has been really cool to see some new parts and pieces as well as some new techniques that have been developed in my absence. I don't like the batmobile at all - the shape and everything about this one. BUT... you did a pretty nice job. I think that will pass for it perfectly. Now you just need to build it and sell it "used" for 300$

I agree that Helm's Deep isn't great on it's own. But it did introduce mature building techniques compared to the usual bucket style castle we get. If you want to see something interesting check out what this AFOL did: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=89205 Lego could release something similar in the $200 price range. But they won't without some mega-license involved.

I found one hidden in the clearance aisle of my Walmart but I have a feeling it was just one of those odd mistakes since seeing a couple on the shelf in the regular Lego aisle later. Still I'll take what I can get and the minifigures are so perfectly retro.

Right, I'm growing tired of these same sort of characters...Vikings, clowns, spacemen...enough already. Very boring. The Simpsons and The LEGO Movie were a breath of fresh air. I want some cool themed CMFs...Give me a STAR WARS CMF. Harry Potter. Atlantis. CITY. Anything...LOL

Basically if you line up two baseplates with the edges touching, you won't be able to put a tile spanning across the two because the studs are too close together. There needs to be a small gap between the baseplates.

It looks like Batman is leaning on the front of the Batmobile.

2 comments: 1) 2x2 tiles in colors red, yellow or dark tan (likely in that order) are the cheapest on BrickLlink. The 1x8 might also be affordable as other members suggested. For 1x8 the cheap colors are likely to be blue, white, black, red (in that order?) There is also the 1x2 route with colors including lime, bright pink, and dark purple, but I don't really recommend the 1x2's unless you can make a cool pattern combining them (much more work than the 2x2s). All the pieces mentioned before have been widely available in the PABs in the past years and there is a surplus of them. Also available were 1x4s in green and reddish brown I think those will be more expensive. No guarantee that you can find any of them in the current PAB selection when you go to the store in fact it is likely you will find completely different stuff maybe other tiles and colors, maybe nothing relevant at all, best thing is to call the store and ask. 2) This is VERY important: When gluing the baseplates to the table make sure to put some tiles/plates/bricks as place holders in the borders and mark the location of the plate. DO NOT glue baseplates side by side, there is always a little empty space in between baseplates which gets covered once you build on it.

I believe part of the back was shown in the LEGO Batman "Success" poster that posted to LEGO's Twitter feed a little while ago. Actually it looks a little different...

Those two different roof slopes fit rather snuggly together. Just place the bottom part in red first then the other in black on top.

I managed to find the Juniors Batman set on sale for $10 which was perfect as I wanted to get those classic Batman & Robin minifigures just so I could recreate the 60s Batmobile. I wasn't thinking about rebuilding this version but I could probably figure some aspects out from the image. Slightly different but there is a real good recreation for the full size car on Eurobricks. Red for the mudguard is pretty common. You want rare, try orange. Haha.

Lol I'm actually heading out to my lego store in salt lake city to go buy it. I've been eyeballing the mobile crane for many many months now.

Helm's Deep is a overrated set IMO. What's so special about it? It's a great set to part out for castle pieces, but nothing sets it apart. There are many better places to invest your money.

Look pretty cool. Not $4 a figure cool though.

It is builds such as this that prove how vast the stride from the beginning to now Lego has progressed in terms of selection, palette, design, and technique. So many sets in the company

What makes me mad is that it's another Comic Con vendor who gets in early and fills up the line before regular attendees have a chance. He was in such a hurry to post it that he couldn't even be bothered to take off the Comic Book descriptions in his eBay ad. Lego won't do anything about people that ****** up 1 in a 1000 exclusives before a regular person can get one, but they'll ban someone from the VIP program for buying a few Grand Emporiums.

I've been collecting these SDCC sets/displays for years and even though the sets are usually 1 of 1000, they usually come down in price in a week or so. Don't pay $300 for this set. The only person making any money off of this will be the original seller.
