  2. I started college in 2002 but had to stop before I finished because of the cost. I got back in to school two years ago and graduated today. My wife was very sweet and drove all the way across town to get this (and a gift card) for me. Of course I had to build it as soon as I got home. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  3. A LEGO Tumbler, the Caped Crusader's black armored vehicle of choice in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight movie trilogy, will be on display at Comic-Con this week beginning Wednesday. Following the pop-culture convention, which runs through July 27, the Tumbler toy (1,869 pieces, $199) goes on sale at LEGO stores and shop.LEGO.com in September. Measuring 15 inches tall and 9 inches wide, the LEGO Tumbler has an armored exterior, adjustable wings, a detailed interior (with a console screen that reads "INTIMIDATE") and oversized rubber-tread tires. It also comes with a fact sheet about the vehicle from the movies. If you're into character mini-figures, the stars of the set are a Christian Bale-styled Batman and the Joker, the first time Heath Ledger's The Dark Knight take on the villain has appeared in LEGO form. 4. Looks like the X-Wing from the original concept art. You can see the 4 engines, they just look iike one from the front when the wings are closed. Given the fact that the galaxy went through a large scale civil war 20 or 30 years before ep 7 is set, plus whatever smaller battles took place in between due to the power vacuum the fall of the empire created, I wouldn't expect any major leaps in technology. We'll see more of the "used future" look that the OT is known for.

  7. Well, we now have Target.com marking up GE, SSD, DS, Emma's Horse Trailer... Earlier in the year they marked up the Quinjet, and while they later dropped the price to clearance it out, the set was by then officially retired at shop.lego.com. They also marked up the Lone Ranger train and Forest Police Station, in each case shortly before the sets were marked "retired" by lego. Seems to me there's a track record here worth noting.

  11. Or, since it was post-empire, perhaps government regulations required lower carbon emissions while in the atmosphere of any inhabited planet as well as increased MPG. Hence, manufacturers had to reduce number of engines.

  14. Adding to the above, it would seem that 8-wide buildings are actually a thing. Who knew? Turns out in real life there are structures called a spite house (aka 'skinny house' in a couple cases). The dimensions of those vary unlike the modular house standards in Lego, of course, but the general idea is the same about one building of an odd shape looking out of place from everything else around it as if to 'spite' them. Anyway, I found a bunch more 8-wide modular builds. Most are real while a couple done digital but all interesting one way another. Spite House by Carbohydrates 8-wide modular house by slovakiasteph Eight-wide modular building by Frederik Hedenskog A MOC of 19W 46th St New York, NY by RTN LNA Eight wide modular house by Dean Moody I'm starting to see the allure of these tiny cots. I believe I have at least two 8x32 baseplates in green somewhere. All they need is a good thorough cleaning and a design worthy to be built upon them. Now these last two are not single 8-wide structures but they are oddly shaped with one building being 20 stud wide and the other 12 wide. brown and grey modular buildings by alex54 Canal Street Houses by Brick City Depot http://www.flickr.com/photos/58481341@N06/sets/72157629412437839/ Well I believe that is it for 'spite houses' and odd shaped modulars in general. I honestly can't think or find anything else similar at this point. Until next time!

  17. R2 has been one of my favorite builds. Not as big as some of the other large UCS sets, but the design and intricacy of some of the parts was great. The whole unit is very solid, with a lot of internal structure so that's where a lot of the part count goes. Loved mine so much I got the light kit for it:

  27. Ok, I put a 10198 on Craigs List a few weeks ago for $250, so the next day I get 2 E-mails one from Stetson Rush and Vera Bass, they both said they wanted it I told them I have a few, so they both said they are both mailing me a Bank Check, and they both said to keep a extra Hundred Dollars for my trouble. Which is one of the oldest tricks on Ebay, before Paypal there were so many people getting screwed by buyers using fake and stolen Postal Money Orders, Say I guy one a $100 Lego set from me and paid with a fake Postal Money order, He would have it made out for say $450 and a few days later he would email me and say he sent to much money, he would say keep $100 extra for the trouble, and mail the item I won from you plus the extra money I sent you. Back then Post Offices didn't have those Money order scanners to check the money order. So when I called the bank Scottsdale AZ and told her I got a $1860 check, the first thing she ask me was the bank The Huntington National Bank, I said yes, she said they get hudreds of the fake checks every week, and people don't wait and fall for the scam, as this check says MEMO:Instant Cash. And the other guy or girl sent a $2,140.00 check. So Names again are "Stetson Rush" and "Vera Bass" Ed

  30. Jeeze, I hate to see how the conversation would have gone if there were six little engines or none at all. Hold on, I think I saw some scribbling on the side saying "Anakin was here". Well anyway, glad I picked up my Z-95 Headhunter on sale back when it was considered 'uncool' by the masses. :beee:

  31. i did read the accompanying article saying its not the headhunter and the replies to the multiple tweets saying it looks like a z-95 headhunter and i watched the whole video and it looks like a z-95 with 2 turrets. just because its tweeted doesn't make it the truth. xwings have 4 engines. this thing has 2. and it is pretty ugly. oh but its an x-wing didn't you read the article.

  44. I think what the Ed & Ed Investment Team likes to emphasize is that people should buy these large exclusives when the opportunity arises at a discount, even if the set is not close to EOL. Double and Triple VIP points at LEGO S@H usually coincide with some generous promos, so that is always a good time. I know many have limited budgets and/or space and this theory doesn't work for them, but for those who have the luxury of some extra cash and space to store these sets, it is never to early to start "hoarding" them. Plus, you never know when LEGO is going to do a limited production run and enable people to flip for short term profits. I would like to point out that eBay is also a great place to find fairly priced exclusives. Over the last several months I have found some great deals on sets like the 10188, Sydney Opera House, Sea Cow and others. Maybe these sets were from ex-BrickPicker members who needed the cash and are getting out of the reselling business.

  46. To me its tough to agree or disagree with a comment like this. To say LEGO quality has gone down over the years to me is not really fair. You are making comments as if you are an executive there and know exactly what is going on when you don't. Over the past few years, LEGO's popularity has soared to heights that most companies could dream of and with that becomes new levels of scrutiny. They are producing more pieces than ever with different types of pieces and different production facilities. Overall I think they are doing a pretty darn good job keeping up with the demand and still producing a fine toy. This reminds me of years ago when Sony was the biggest player in town for all types of electronics. After a few years of dominance, you would hear things like "Sony TVs are garbage, they have the most recalls and support incidents". The thing most people were not accounting for was that there were a 100+ Sony TVs sold to every 1 of any other brand. That means there are more of them to go to service. Mega Bloks is where LEGO was years ago, I am sure they would have the same production issues as LEGO if they were having the same success. LEGO customer service would be happy to send a you a few replacement bricks for you to make your $200 set look perfect.
