I'm 99% sure the Curiosity rover is gone for good. I've checked with the powers responsible multiple times, just to be sure. The remaining 1% uncertainty is just a result of my own naive hope, because I wouldn't mind having a few (many) more rovers myself. They admitted to underestimating the demand for this set and that it would be taken into consideration for future releases. I must admit I'm a bit jealous of those who claim to have 100+ rovers, not because I'm interested in reselling, but so I could leisurely give them away for the rest of my life. I've never sold a LEGO set and have no immediate plans to start, but I couldn't help taking an interest in a discussion thread about a LEGO set that I designed. Anyway, It's been interesting to use the tools here to track the interest in my set. Hopefully all the stored sets in your closets eventually find good homes, even if the buyers, such as myself, have to pay a bit more for them now.

I finished this last night. I really like the color of the wing tips unfortunately those 6 elements are the only in that dark blue color. I think this set would look a lot more realistic if the yellow elements were replaced by the dark blue. The rear wheel gearing that makes the propeller move was neat to build but is more like a toy feature. The sliding cockpit was a neat feature as well. I was missing 2 1x4 white flat tile elements, there were 2 extra 1X3 so I temporarily borrowed them from the 9493 X Wing. This made for a good comparison since they are both RRP $60 with AA having 60 more elements but minus the 4 minifigs. They are almost identical in length and width to give you a comparison. I think I will break the AA down and build the Speedboat (quick build) option next then possibly brick link the dark blue elements and rebuild the plane one of these days. If you can get this at Target for 50% clearance and red card for $28.50 I think it is a good deal. As far as an investment I would pass.

This could of went in multiple forums/topics but I'll decided to condense it here on the Canada sub section for more local traffic. Went to the Discovery Centre today at Vaughan Mills, annual passes were 15% off and I saw some SSD's and GE's available, asked a rep are they're still giving 10% off ALL sets and she said yes. Couldn't refuse so got my annual pass. 15% off. There were 2 SSDs left, I took the best condition one (9/10)...who knows if they have more in the back. Also picked up 4 GE's. 10% off these sets saved me a bundle OR basically got my annual pass free and Lego purchases at 10% off for the next 365 days. There is ONE SSD left, ok condition (6.5/10) and ONE GE left (7/10) on shelve. I didn't bother to ask if they had more in the back room. Happy Canada Day tomorrow folks!

Another set that I`ll definitely order the maximum of. You just can`t not do so with these small sets. Both models look awesome, though Lego`s is definitely more sturdy and playable which will help interest consumers. I love them both equally though for different reasons.

I pick select ones and try to get between 5 and 10, but with the goal to never sell any at the same price. If one person will pay $300, the one who waited should not be rewarded. They can pay $325. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

the fact that you are asking means you think you need more and are just looking for some little devils to sit on your shoulder and cheer you on to get some. 5 is not enough. i think less than 10 ge is not enough ge. and if you are at all inclined to build lego, you will not be able to resist opening so don't forget to add on an extra. also this is assuming that you can get them which in north america is becoming challenging. modulars have a history of performing well. if you are going to play the game ge is a winning position.

I do get the impression we're close to the end with the GE in Europe. Most shops haven't restocked for a while and now LEGO Shop at Home in most countries is also running delayed orders. It would make sense to see this set retired around this period too if you count the launch date of 2010.

Some say people who missed the FB would stock up on the GE, but I'm in agreement with you. I believe the FB was stocked up more. While FB was still around, people kept on stocking up waiting for it to retire. After FB retired, we had only a 7 month period to jump on the GE yet people left this on the shelves and didn't jump on it. I still believe many are overlooking this set at the moment. FB vs GE...i think thay go toe to toe...lets them both go through holiday season together....GEIs conner set and went to sold out mode on a middle of 2014 withaout retiering soon mark....people stock up more on FB, I guess...nobody knows for sure but i am betting GE perform better, proof me wrong...i got 6 FB but 16 GE

I was fortunate to get 31 of these for $21.xx each after tax from a shopko clearance sale last summer. I have it listed for $90 shipped, but haven't sold one yet. I'm not worried though. It's a great set and will sell. I'm not budging on my price, and will probably increase it once the holidays get closer.

Been selling this set pretty steady since January... sold another one today for $130 and after fees still a nice profit. Have about 7 left and they will likely all be sold my Xmas. I could hold back the last couple and see if it'll hit $180-$200 eventually, but the conservative side of me thinks to cash in earlier and reinvest/pay down inventory/cash flow etc. Other folks stock up 20,30, or +50 on this set?

There were some in Maryland on Thursday. I hit Arundel mills, I bought two and left one on the shelf. I think they had more in the back I'm hoping Christiana mall has some tomorrow for me

Always use scanner, do not trust lables...never...cause sometimes even in target its marked 30%off but actually 50%. I got 4 Master builders sets from TRU last week.50%off...

It's been fun following all the speculation and tracking the progress in the price guide. I wish it had been around longer so I could have hoarded a few more myself. People ask me about the rover's availability all the time and it's not very enjoyable having to tell people that the set is gone, except on eBay. I'm glad so many people liked the set and I hope those who have stocked up have at least opened one to enjoy. It really is a fun and educational little set.

That and people are impatient and like to mash on the post button.

1% of net sales seems like a crock of you know what honestly. I mean Lego probably doesn't NEED ideas. But at the same time, these are voted on so you know you have the buyers before hand. I think its kind of silly.

Your guess is too high, and I'll leave it at that. I got them just before Christmas, so some of them were used as awesome Christmas presents for various family members. I did my best to get as many as I could after that, but the limited availability and the 1 set restriction in the US made that difficult. It seems future Ideas sets will see larger production runs since they admitted underestimating the demand for my set. All I know for sure is that LEGO works in mysterious ways.

All I know for sure is that CUUSOO/Ideas sets are produced in batches of 10,000. I thought maybe they did 20,000, but earlier in this thread you guys mentioned that there were three different production codes, which would indicate 30,000 sets. I'm afraid a royalty figure wouldn't be of much help because I only get 1% of net sales, which is some unknown fraction of the sale price.

Isn't this a problem with ALL the sets touted as good investments on BP ? How is SSD perceived to be immune to this but not the Rover ?

Thats pretty bold buying these for $100 over retail. Just not seeing that. I mean I love the set, and you will make money on it still - but looking at what price it is now is pointless. Its inflated as hell because people are panicking. This set isn't going to immediately double or something. If anything it will be a bit slow at the beginning because there is clearly a bubble here.

The GEx3 has better potential, and my main reason would be the price point. There is a much larger customer base for a $300 set than a $800 set.

good choice. like rock said, pick one and have no regrets. personally, I would go with the 3 GEs and never look back. The Fire Brigade showed us how the modular completists adore this theme (much like Winter them fans) and will PAY secondary market prices. This is one of 3 or 4 themes that staying available for retail for 4+ years won't hurt too bad. The global demand is there like Star Wars sets. While the GE might not jump in price like the fabulous looking FB, it's a corner. I can easily see the GE tripling in price in 2-3 years after EOL to $450 (or $1,350 3 sets). I'm not sure 10221 will hit $1,350 w/in 3 years post EOL after the initial price jump (like what we have been experiencing with retirement rumors). I can be completely wrong with my prediction but my gut tells me to go w/ the GEs.

Why on earth would we need another thread about the SSD? I have enough trouble keeping up with the dozens of emails that I get from threads about the GE, SSD, DS, VW, SC, etc. I'm going to go crazy if I "have to" subscribe to another thread.

Classic Space is awesome and timeless. Glad it is getting some love with Benny's Spaceship. There was something just so timeless about classic space. Yes the designs were simple and the minifigures were plain. But it is almost like they did just enough so that the imagination could do the rest. Take for example the most iconic set of the theme, the 497 Galaxy Explorer. Just the most impressive box art. Just some Lego men quietly working on a strange planet under an intense alien sun. While overhead the sleek Galaxy Explorer glides effortlessly towards an alien sun through the cold mute expanse of space. A universe of possibility and adventure await. This is why the theme has endured the decades and has such a cult status. Classic Space was the genesis that spawned the golden age of LEGO space. One of the best things was that it wasn't simple good guys Vs. bad guys like today. You had all these factions, each with their own drives and objectives. From the nomadic foragers of M-Tron to the galactic peacekeepers of Space Police to the quiet researchers of Ice Planet 2002. Each was unique. Some of the greats of space came out in this period. The 6941 Battrax, the 6990 Monorail (and its brother the Unitron Monorail base), the 6989 Mega Core Magnetizer, the 6988 Alpha Centauri Outpost. The list goes on and on! (BTW I just noticed the Blacktron guy in the background getting booted into a cell ) Sadly, in the late '90's. LEGO space went into a decline. While UFO, Roboforce and Insectoids were not bad by a long shot. They just seemed to lose something. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the sets just seemed to get too busy and lacked some intangible quality that the previous years had given us. Then in 1999 LEGO Star Wars appeared and put the final nails in the coffin of Space. Not that I am hating on Star Wars, the sets are great (until they went overboard with all the non-original trilogy stuff) and they saved LEGO from the chopping block but something dear was lost with LEGO space. Subsequent space themes have just been so forgettable. Mars mission tried admirably and Space Police III was just awful. Galaxy Squad has some awesome sets, several of which have earned places next to my Space sets. But again it just seems like the harder LEGO reach for the magic of Classic Space the more it slips away. Now this August we finally get a proper tribute to the proud lineage of Classic Space in the form of Benny's Spaceship. It is not perfect, but it does very well. And I have to say that the August release can't come soon enough. It also fills me with hope for the future of LEGO Space. /steps off the soapbox
