Materials guide for LEGO selling & shipping Many members have asked for a centralized place where they can go for shipping box information. I'm going to pin this post and update it as new information is provided. I just want to take a few minutes and thank those who wrote the following articles. They are still very good reference materials for the LEGO storage and shipping process. I may develop this into a blog article eventually. Fcbarcelona101's : Selling LEGO : Basic Materials Guide Mos Eisley 's : LEGO Storage Wars Incompetech's Catalog of Amazon.com Box Sizes - (thanks No More Monkeys) Amazon Boxes Sorted list by length - courtesy of pstebbing I've scoured the forums and here is a list of box sizes with basic set information: Boxes: 24x20x8 : Super Star Destroyer; Death Star, Roller Coaster, UCS Sandcrawler, Assembly Square 24x20x6 : Thicker sets like Town Hall, Tower Bridge 24x16x6 - 60052 Cargo Train, R2-D2, Maersk Line Triple-E, 7939 Cargo Train 24x16x4 - Helm's Deep, Vampyre Castle, Black Pearl, Friends Riding Camp, Parisian Restaurant, High Speed Passenger Train, Jabba's Palace, Downtown Diner 24x20x4 : Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, Imperial Shuttle, Haunted House, Palace Cinema, Fire Brigade 24x14x4 : Dolphin Cruiser, Coast Guard Patrol 24x4x12 - Dolphin Cruiser, Coast Guard Patrol 20x16x4 - Volkswagen Camper Van, Olivia's House, Sonic Raider, Sopwith, Creator Bike Shop, Batcave, Quinjet, Moria & Ambush 20x16x6 : Thicker sets like the Republic Gunship; City Cargo Plane 20x14x4 : Attack on Weathertop, Hulk 's Helicarrier Breakout, X-Wing 9493, Black Gate 16x16x4 : Gungan Sub, Pre Viszla, Tie Fighter 16x10x4 : Council of Elrond, Desert Skiff, City Grand Prix Truck 16x10x6 : Thicker sets like Creator Family House, Hillside House 15x12x4 : Funhouse, Orc Forge, Tumbler Chase, Daily Bugle Showdown, Hulk Lab Smash 12x12x4 : Uruk Hai Army, City Cargo Truck, Creator Treehouse, City Fire Emergency 11-3/4x8-3/4x4-3/4 : Wolverine Chopper, Arctic Batman, Power Armor Lex, Droid Escape, Cloud Cuckoo Palace 12x8x3 - Battle Packs, CA Avenging Cycle, Catwoman, Gandalf Arrives, Holiday sets 10x8x4 : Battle Packs, CA Avenging Cycle, Catwoman, Gandalf Arrives, Holiday sets Envelopes: 4x8 : Minifigs & small polybags 6x9 : Polybags small & larger 10.5 x 16 : Larger shipments of 3 x polybags or more Packing Tape : buy in bulk or on sale : you can throw some in during a Staples coupon promotion to get up to free shipping Walmart.com Duck Brand Packaging Tape http://www.staples.com/Staples-Standard-Grade-Packaging-Tape-Clear-189-x-110-yds-6-Rolls/product_380107 Retailers: Uline.com : holiday sale starts first part of November (usually 30% off) Staples.com : use coupon promotions - $10 off $30, $20 off $75, free shipping over $60 Walmart.com USPS Priority Mail (free boxes at USPS.com) Michigan Box Company: Flat Boxes 18"-23" L (thanks pstebbing) GBE Packaging (thanks pstebbing) PackingSupplies.com http://www.packaging...ated_boxes.html (thanks pstebbing) Bubble Wrap: 3/16" thick x 350' ft x 12" wide - eBay Sams Club 3/16" - 12"x240' $12.98 (In store) ($.05/LF) (thanks pstebbing) I like to use large and small retailer plastic bags to wrap items in, even after I bubble wrap it. For battle packs and even small sets, I sometimes use Wal-Mart, Target, or plastic bags from any store. Additional packing isn 't really needed. Usually like 2 bags on bottom, one to wrap the item, and two bags on top. Make sure to cover the corners of the item real nice to provide extra padding. Rule of thumb : ship & pack all of your items the same way you 'd like to receive items you've purchased. Shipping Paper: Collect it when you receive shipments. http://www.amazon.com/Pratt-Multipurpose-Packaging-KPR30241200R-Length/dp/B00AI652CM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408061459&sr=8-1&keywords=pratt+kraft+paper+1200? I 'll update it with what everyone wants added. I hope this is helpful.1 point

Hey Guys, Maybe you've seen this already but some kid won a Lego Star Wars room. Most of the stuff in his room consists of custom large scale builds like trees and lampshades, but there is a UCS R2-D2, Ewok Village, and a Millennium Falcon on his wall. The MF looks significantly larger than the current one, but smaller than the 10179. Might Lego have taken the piece count from 10179 and applied it to a detailed interior? The MF doesn't look nearly as epic as the 10179, but it does look big, and is possibly more in line with the Sandcrawler (i.e. not to mini fig scale but uses advanced building techniques/has playability) Anyways, I took 2 screenshots and wanted to get everyone opinion on if this is an upcoming set?1 point

I hate to break it to you man, but you are following the wrong thread. Nothing but negativity and depression on this thread :)1 point

I think he was asking if it will be allowed for someone to sell the non Lego minifigs if they are listed as such.1 point

Not true as TRU sold out after the price was increased to $550.00 as well as they were selling for that price on amazon and Ebay. Retailers are getting it, money to be made here until it is gone. TRU may have increased them all to mask the ones they really wanted to raise it on. Who really knows but these huge companies contribute significant man power and resources to figuring out what will make a consumer buy from them. The good news is that most people will not buy the GE and SSD, DS now that they are back in stock, as the sub conscious takes over and reinforces that you have time, no big deal. I am glad these are back to top off my allocations. The quick move up in price was a fantastic indicator of the opportunity. Most folks won't drop this much money anyway, so it really reinforces that there will not be as many in inventories as people think.1 point

Yep. You got a great deal. It is hard to find exclusive sets (even if they are used) under retail price.1 point

My doctor said my blood preasure was too high that I needed to stop frequenting BP forums to cut down my salt intake.1 point

It looks like a 7965 with more details. It has the same size for the round part, but bigger "pointy-things" in the front. Nevertheless, if this is the rumored 2015 Falcon, I will be selling my 7965 to buy this one.1 point
-
And just to mess with us, Amazon has SSD back in stock, though only 2 are available 2 is order limit1 point
-
part of the problem is that many (not all) non-exclusive sets are priced higher than older versions w/ less elements and / or smaller sized.1 point

Take this with a grain of salt, but my Lego Store manager, who was also an operations manager for years for Lego Land Discovery Centers (so he has been around the block a few times), said that Lego does divert product from underperforming markets to meet underestimated demand in other markets. My inclination is to believe that this is what has happened with the SSD. In other words, there is no new "batch" from a Lego factory, they just redistributed product in the market to meet the Lego SAH demand. If they start popping up again at other online retailers, then this theory will be proven wrong. Until then, this is my belief.1 point

I think that Unexpected Gathering is a winner here. It's both a classic set for both Lord of the Rings AND the Hobbit. Plus, it really is a beautiful little set. It's one of the few I actually have displayed at my house (my wife won't let me build anything really big). It's not super-expensive, but it is just expensive enough that I think you'll get decent profit once it retires. Plus, it comes with five important minifigs (no filler goblins, orcs, elves or anything you don't really care about). Can't tell you how many people commented on the set when they came over. After they said, "You're an adult and collect Leogs?" nonsense, then their comments actually turned into, "This is really awesome." As far as other sets that are still retail or discount out there, I think Dol Guldur and Battle of the Black Gate have long-term potential as well. but again, as many of you have stated, I think the reason Lord of the Rings has limited appeal is that it probably really is mostly adults/teens going after them. Most young kids haven't seen the movies. Even the Hobbit movie, in many ways, is more violent and brutal than Lord of the Rings. So, little kids aren't asking for these for Christmas as much. The only ones who will are kids who KNOW about Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit and just think that whatever set they get is cool. I know my youngest son likes Star Wars sets for that very reason. He hasn't seen any of the movies (yet) but he knows about Star Wars, and would rather have a Star Wars ship set than some generic Lego outer space set. I just have a feeling that, because the Lord of the Rings legos haven't been HUGE sellers, that could actually help their value long-term since they probably haven't made as many, and they're retiring more quickly. Maybe I'm wrong. I like them a lot, and I'm trying to get my hands on as many as I can at the right price.1 point

How Long did the previous Maersk ship last? 10155 came out in 2010. Was it only available for a limited time? I have to admited, the Non US CAGR (UK is 5%) of this ship puts me off buying any more of the current one unless it is discounted. Which, I think it unlikely. The Maersk train seems to be doing a lot better. But again, how long was this set out for? I have thought the same. Why pay full RRP at another retailer if you can get an effective 5% discount from LEGO Shop at Home. Of course this only works on sets, that are Hard to Find or Exclusive. If you want an idea how the GE may perform at EOL, look at 10197 FB. There were a lots of threads on this set last year with many being very pessimistic about its EOL performance. But it has shot up in price. Not guaranteed of course but I suspect the GE will perform in a similar manner.1 point

LEGO Shop at Home is your best option , if you are buying less than 5 or 4 sets.......1 point

If that's supposed to be the next UCS Falcon, 10179 will only go up in price. It's bigger than 7965 for sure, but not anywhere close to 10179. Could be a MOC or prototype as well, I guess.1 point

Several times. I usually just open the box and check the contents. Never has had any impact on the selling price.1 point

I don't think it lasted long enough to have much of an impact.1 point

Guys I don't think the Finance executives for the Lego Group would keep their jobs long if they spend millions investment in creating 1 set such as the Triple E, having it sell so well it sells out constantly, and then discontinues it in its first year....not to be rude...but come on, use some logic here.1 point

The new Imperial Star Destroyer is available, and this guy has already done a comparison with the old one. I haven't decided yet which I like better.1 point

Yeah!! it was a very exciting moment. I already reinvested all of it on 3 more sets I caught on eBay between yesterday and today lol.1 point

Lego's getting sloppy with their history. The Jedi and Panaka weren't even AT that battle. Sheesh. - oh lord forgive me for noting factual differences in a Non-OT 'film'. [commences self-loathing]1 point

Reinvesting short term gains into sets for another round of short term gain (analog of compound interest with high frequency of compounding) is a viable investing strategy as is the long-term hold strategy. We discussed that already in multiple threads (which usually get locked by Ed due to fruitlessness). Let's try to avoid another "what investment strategy is better" discussion - this will only get this thread locked1 point

I had a vivid dream last night in which I received simultaneous text messages from my contacts saying that several sets, including the GE, VW, and SC, had just retired. I saw the timestamps of the texts: May 28th. Given the credibility of our other sources, I believe this dream is worthy of sharing. Ignore the vision at your own risk.1 point

between Uefma's videos and your posts, it is always nice to how sets are being appreciated outside a monitory context. Keep up the great work.1 point

If things go right, I hope to be in Private Beta in about 3 weeks. I will ask the mods and some members that we know sell a lot and have inventory to help populate the site. I will listen to feedback and make changes where possible. Then open it up to everyone else.1 point

Oh dear, we can't have that kind of comment here, next you'll be telling us how hard done by the little kiddie winks are because someone already got the free polybags from the paper by buying 50 papers and getting 50 lego toys, then perching up at some park bench, cutting out the vouchers and hopping on the train to the next town handing over the said 50 cut out vouchers and getting another 50 lego toys. And at both stores, you tell the shop assistant "they miss counted" and they hand over a few more. And them selling them to a German at a 600% mark up. And then using that money to take a holiday sitting in the sun sipping beer. P.S I have fed an Asian family for the last 2 and a half years by selling lego. I'm hoping my investing will get them out of the jungle into a house one day.1 point
