I'm going to go ahead and say that's the largest private collection of official LEGO sets I have EVER seen. I mean seriously. When the camera first turned around to face the entire room. When the camera moves upward to see the hanging shelves. When the camera moves into an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SECOND ROOM EQUALLY FILLED WITH LEGO. Lego's getting sloppy with their history. The Jedi and Panaka weren't even AT that battle. Sheesh. - oh lord forgive me for noting factual differences in a Non-OT 'film'. [commences self-loathing]

Tower of Orthanc has a licensed attached to it. The LOTR license is not the same as the Hobbit license. When the license expires, the set expires. It does not look like more LOTR sets are going to be made at this point. If they produce more sets then that may indicate the life of the license, squeezing most amount of money out of it. If they do not make more LOTR sets then we can expect the license to go away along with this set. Get em while you can.

If it's your personal set I say do it. If it's for resale not worth it.

True and predictable after seeing 75059 in-person. I still like my 10144 and kept it in my son's bedroom along with the new one. Here's some words to consider: you can't win them all. You're not going to win every set. You're not going to get every deal. Whether it's time, resources, or money. Sometimes, you just have to let sets get away. I know the general investment rule is "with great risk comes great reward." For me, it's unusual that I'll take the time to drive an hour for a great CL deal. If it's worth it for you, go for it. But be sure you're doing it for logical reasons, and don't get caught up in the emotional about it.

You know, the one thing that I have learned is that change is constant. You adapt or die. This site has morphed over the past three years from a "make money" site into a "save money" site. "A penny saved is a penny earned." If the site needed a motto, that would be it. It is a place where any LEGO fan can come and find out about great deals on LEGO sets and items. Sure, we have the Price Guide and other features, but almost everything on this site is dedicated to saving money, including the Price Guide. I want members(and future buyers) to be educated about prices and buying and selling LEGO sets. I want them to learn about the value of LEGO sets and how they appreciate. Paying the proper price for LEGO sets will keep speculation in check. If potential buyers know how and why LEGO sets increase in value, maybe it will be easier to pull a trigger on expensive sets and get more people involved in the hobby. People know they have to pay a premium for items that are rare, hard to find, out of stock, out of production, etc...and that is where sites like eBay, Bricklink, Amazon and ours(hopefully) make their profits. Our intention is to cater and sell to every type of LEGO fan imaginable. We do not discriminate. You keep on asking what markets we will sell to. I say, with all due respect, "Who gives a sh*t?" It does not matter. We will sell to everyone with a PayPal account, credit card or check book. People will find us if prices are fair and sellers are reliable. We cannot make members price sets properly or ship them correctly, but we can charge sellers a fair commission and limit regulations and restrictions so that they see the value in listing sets with us. We hope members will respect our game plan and take some of the savings from fees and pass them to buyers. Peer pressure can also help here as well. I think the main issue that you and some other members have with the Classifieds and the site in general is that we promote the buying and selling of LEGO sets. This is true and will be true until the site is no more. The cat is out if the bag and many people now know about the world of LEGO investing. But even though we promote the buying and selling of LEGO sets to more people than some would like, we also help members save money when doing so. We will save you money on the Classifieds as well. It is up to all of you to make this work. Jeff and I will advertise and find creative ways to promote your sets and improve the site, but all of you sellers will have to deliver in order for this to work. Is the theory flawed? We will soon find out...

It took everything out of me to pass on these deals. I'd like to think it's the disciplined investor in me but the reality is my two SSD shipped and my credit card needs some relief this month. lol, I was going to make a similar smart-aleck comment...something like: I've heard of everything bagels and cinnamon raisin bagels, but I'd probably stay away from the garbage bagels. The organization thing bugged me too. I mean, I thought it was an unwritten rule that all LEGO fanatics had to be at least a little bit OCD as well. He had a bunch of Blacktron II sets all displayed in roughly in the same area, and it would have been so easy to just group them together. They were so close, yet so far away. It actually made me kind of antsy.

I almost hate it when deals this good pop up.... almost.

Here's my strategy for this set. You could call it a "mini blog." Not quite enough information for a blog post, yet still good info, so I am posting it here. I am going to buy two at midnight on June 1st. Some people will buy many more, but I am a small-scale investor. I am going to open, build, and enjoy one, and I will keep the other sealed. If it goes out of stock quickly on LEGO Shop at Home, I will flip the sealed set and sell some of the minifigures from the one I opened to make up for what I paid for it. I am hoping to sell the minifigs at $10-$15 USD to make up for the cost of the Ecto-1, which I am planning on keeping. If this set does not sell out quickly on LEGO Shop at Home, it will still be popular. If that is the case, I will open the sealed set and part it out. I highly doubt this will happen, though, because of my experiences with other CUUSOO sets. Minecraft sold out quickly. So did the Delorean. By then, it seemed that LEGO would have learned their lesson and upped the production limit for the Curiosity Rover, but the Curiosity Rover also sold out quickly. Even if LEGO decided to bump up the production limit for the Ecto-1, it would still sell out eventually. Ghostbusters has a huge fan base. Even kids that have never heard of Ghostbusters will still want this set because one of their friends has it. I have to admit that I have never watched Ghostbusters and know very little about it, (other than that it is popular,) yet I am still planning on buying it. Why? Because of the design. I enjoy building cars and vehicles with advanced building techniques, and this set matches this description perfectly. I would bet that I am not the only one buying this set without being a Ghostbusters fan. Minecraft is known as one of the best sets to flip of all time, yet its design was not very impressive. The reason the set was so popular was because Minecraft was popular. People that did not know what Minecraft was would not buy the set for the design. Here is how I classified the types of buyers of Minecraft: 1. Fans of Minecraft 2. LEGO collectors that need every single set 3. People who bought it because it's popular The list looks similar for peeps who will be buying the Ecto-1: 1. Fans of Ghostbusters 2. LEGO collectors that need every single set 3. People who will buy it because it's popular 4. Minifigure collectors that want only the minifigures 5. LEGO collectors that like the design <--- (That's me.) The first three types of buyers on both lists are the same, yet the Ghostbusters list has two more important types of buyers. Minecraft did not have any minifigures; the Ecto-1 does. Minecraft did not that great of a design; this set does. So, I have a feeling that this set will possibly be as popular, or even more popular, than 21102 Minecraft. In conclusion, my advice is to at least buy one of this set right when it comes out. If you don't, you will be kicking yourself.

And....I think Amazon just stole my wallet

Another thing that Ed and I have bounced around is how do we want people to manage their listings and what happens after they post their item. As we have stated before, our goal is to become a great place to shop for LEGO. We want to tell people that we have experienced and knowledgable members with great pricing, come buy from them. We also hope that sellers give good value which will keep the buyers coming back to see what's new. There are two types of listings. Never-ending ones and of course ones that will end after a certain period of time. We are going to offer both. 1. Will have a longer duration, something like 60 or 90 days. The goal is to keep the seller engaged with the site and their items. One major negative of the never-ending listing is that people set it and then forget it. They don't come back and look to see what the price is, are people looking at it, basically if it sells, it sells. This is also a potential site killer for those that push high prices and don't care. You will be notified that you listing has ended and then you will just have to visit the site and re-list for free (just click a single button). At that time you should evaluate your price, images, description, everything to help put you in a position to sell your item. At least then, people will know that the items and seller are still around. A direct quote from Ed..."If it sits there too long, maybe the price wrong..." 2. The never-ending listing. This will be available for you as well. There will be a small fee with this though and its only paid if the item sells. We understand there are the users that want to set it and forget it and that is fine as well. If you are the type that is dead set on what you want for you item and don't care how long it sits there, then this is for you. All initial items from the start will have a long duration rate until the site gets going. We are trying to come up with options that give the most impact. Custom builders, unique products, custom minifig creators Ed and I also know that there are very creative people out there that may want to sell or that there may be the really rare item that you want to bring more detail and attention too. There will be very simple features like adding youtube clips to showcase your listing. We know you are out there and will want to get feedback from you so that you know you have a good place to go and post your unique items. We are adding categories for these users. Once inventory increases and we see what types of items are listed, we can then create sub categories

I usually just add random missing pieces to my wanted list and pick them up when I'm getting pieces that I really NEED to finish something.

Do you have to build it, no? But you should take a photo of all the parts in their bags, bins or something. The most basic concept that we are trying to show here is that people will see what they are actually buying. A pictures is worth (enter whatever number here) words. It is a great way to protect yourself from a potentially unhappy buyer that did not read the fine print as well. You show a picture. This is what you are going to get delivered to you. Think of yourself on the buying end. Even though you may know exactly what it is that you are getting, I know I would feel better about my purchase if I actually saw what it is, the condition it was in. You can include a stock photo to show that this is indeed the item you are selling, but you have to at least include one photo of what you have. I think right now that each listing is set for up to 10 photos. You can add two. One stock, one real, that is fine. If you are going to be selling 50 of these, then just put a quantity of 50 in the listing, but you only need one photo unless the condition of some of them are different then the others, those should go into an other listings with a different condition.

This will be part of the upcoming BrickWatcher feature when I release the site update. It will include search for sets on the classifieds as well. People will be able to enter in set numbers that they would like specific updates on, select the stores (Amazon, Kmart, Brick Classifieds) price ranges or percents off. I was working on SMS capabilities that will allow for you to be alerted via email and text message if you register your cell number.

BOGO is not eligible on the SSD

Went to my local TRU picked up last 4 witch poly bags they had for $2.40 got 4 free Spiderman glider poly bags total saved 30 dollars.

Found a Silver Mine Shootout at Walmart for $35, box is a little dinged up but I think I should be able to make something off it.

Or there was a warehouse fire and 134 sets were reduced to slag.

Craigslist puts it best. "Deal local, pay cash." Most of the scams will disappear once you talk about meeting in a public place. Just mention that you will be in the area and could pick the lot up my guess is they will find a reason that you need to pay online. In which case run away.

You had me at "badge or emblem". You know how us girls are about shiny stuff.

This will be the place where the seller has some rights. The buyer won't always be right. We want to keep it simple. Post a real picture of the item. Give a good description. Package and ship properly. Charge a fair price. All the things members talk about on the site everyday. Our basic listing fees will be cheaper than everyone else's, but our plan is to have options that can expand advertising options that might increase the fees with the increased exposure. The argument against the 10188 is that it is a childish set and was never designated as a UCS set. It is not accurate in appearance or proportion. Same goes for the Ewok Village and Sandcrawler. Sorry, the Sandcrawler is a nice set, but it certainly isn't UCS quality in my eyes. LEGO did the entire line a disservice by adding the little hokey gold emblem on the box stating it's a UCS set. LEGO really cheesed out on the Sandcrawler UCS set IMO. It's better than the first version, but a proper UCS Sandcrawler should have been 5000 pieces or more. They threw on the corny UCS emblem to increase sales. There is also something to be said about a classy looking box and set. All you have to do is look at the classic box from the 7191 UCS X-Wing and compare it to the boring looking UCS Red 5 X-Wing box. No comparison. The sets are similar, but the 7191 looks more valuable. To me, LEGO really missed a golden opportunity to make a truly iconic theme of LEGO sets. They should have made all the UCS boxes in a similar fashion to the Architecture boxes, black and classy with the STAR WARS emblem standing out in a glossy gold color. The could include a quality instruction booklet with each set, that has a professional look and feel(like the AS book). Each set should always include a plaque. The UCS series could have expanded to other types of adult oriented models as well.

I think I'm seeing a pattern emerge. These scenarios seem to play out thusly

I double/triple check each opened bag for stuck Lego. I learned my lesson early on when putting together the MF and "lost" pieces (temporarily). Dumpster diving = not fun.

I played Rampage in my neighbor's basement on the NES, and we would stay up for hours trying to beat that damned game. One day we finally beat it, and I was expecting some grand ending sequence to show King Kong getting killed, or running away, or something, and there was nothing...just a spin back to the entry screen. I felt seriously screwed. I am still bitter to this day.
