(oops I clicked on "like this" instead of "quote") I would bet that the multibillionaire amazon doesn't care about brickpicker forums and will certainly not change their website because of us... Because of all of the investors (video games, albums, DVD collector's editions, etc.) i would say "maybe". But not specially because of brickpicker.com and our lego purchases... these are like a drop in the bucket.

I hate to break it to many of you, but the ability to see how many sets Amazon had in inventory was always a worthless endeavor. What many assumed was Amazon's inventory of a set probably had nothing to do with real stock numbers or future inventory if more shipments were on the way. It makes for interesting discussion, but how many times has the 10188 Death Star gone down to zero in Amazon's history? At least 3 or 4 times that I know of and the set is still going strong. Judging EOL off of Amazon's inventory data is waste of time IMO. You are better off using a Ouija board.

Two years after this theme has come and gone a lot of you will be wishing you bought more of these sets. While I haven't gone completely crazy buying them, I do have a decent amount of the first wave sets. Have these tripled in value once gone from the primary market like a few of the recent super heroes sets have? No, but once this theme is completely gone they will be in demand on the secondary market. Why? Because it's the turtles! They have just as large and dedicated a fan base as some of the main stream super heroes.

A special screw you to all the people who put up a listing for "Lego set" and when you open it, you find a picture of Megabloks staring back at you. Lego is not a blanket term to encompass all building block toys

That is possibly the greatest use of Lego heads I have ever seen. I am going to start converting those things to coolers as soon as summers over and work slows down. I wonder if that bar owner is a member.

I will say for this retiring soon thread. I am glad that 90% of what I will be investing in will be this year and early next year and then I am done (almost done at this point). Outside of building with the kids I will not be investing in anything after those dates. Time delay is too long fo all these current sets. I may potentially invest more way down the road. Outside of a few exclusives released in late 2012 and early to mid 2013. I have a few concerns with over-saturation of sets. Not by resellers but my Lego themselves. They have a lot of product. i will make an personal official decision once this year is over and we will know what is gone for good.

The only sets I'd pick up now if you're worried are the VW and batcave, the rest will be around until next year at least. R2 is iffy, but my gut says this one sticks around through the movie premier next year.

Do you all really think Tower of Orthanc could be gone this year? It was just released July of 2013.

I don't trust Amazon's inventory count anymore especially after the SSD mess. I find it hard to believe that R2 dropped from 115 (when I checked before midnight) to just 2. why would 50 individual buyers (best case scenario), all of a sudden jump on it in the middle of the night? the numbers have been slowly dropping and just to see a sudden spike in buying doesn't add up . It wasn't reported on BP or SD either, so to me it doesn't add up. one to keep an eye on I guess

Beat me to it I would get the buyer to buy the goods first. You send them an invoice with the discounted postage (which you'll have to estimate - but if you are an experienced seller you should have an idea), wait until they pay, then de-box the items.

rule of thumb ... make them pay first .... after that youre ok ... i ask to do that sometimes too and as a seller i always offer that option for big sets as i do free shipping and every little bit helps!!!

Proof she goes nice ****** low. An awesome set, great detail, blows the set from 2005 clear out of the dunes per say. Still not sure if I should sell these complete, or part em out. Sure does look sweet next to the others. I'm still tweaking my display layout.

Oooh... I didn't read the OP carefully enough, I didn't realize they wanted the sealed bags opened as well. Yeah, that's a no go for me. I will debox a set and sell just the contents to cut down on shipping, but I never open the bags on anything I sell as new. *edit* lol... looks like Darth misread the OP... they requested that the sealed bags be put into ziplocs.... carry on.

I'd estimate the shipping total without actually opening your sets. If they don't pay, you're stuck with the open sets.

With all the other big sets coming out soon like the Ice Mammoth Stomper and Flying Phoenix Fire Temple, I would think that is ready to hit the graveyard.

You could also get some from a few Cars and Pharaoh's Quest sets. Here is a listing of all sets that came with a tommy gun. I believe the ones used here are customs by Brick Arms. That sounded a little funnier than it should. Haha. I do agree though. It is a decent design but not really something for my own city. Also the phone booth entrance seems a bit hokey like classic Superman or maybe Get Smart.

You mean the 2014 - 2016 time frame isn't accurate enough for you? I say production has stopped on the SSD, but they have enough in the warehouses for the next 3 years. On a serious note...I'm OK with either outcome. If it's retired, I have enough to see a nice profit. If it does come back in stock, I'll have a chance to buy a couple of more. The sets are all still available in my neck of the woods, albeit at TRU inflated prices (VC for $149.99, etc), but still, plenty of stock to be had. At this rate they will definitely be available here come October, if not beyond, there is just that much and it moves that slow. HH on the other hand, I don`t know what to say. If Lego is going to retire it this year, I`d bet it would be Nov-Dec. If next year, same thing, I can`t see how retiring mid year would be a good thing when Halloween sales are close by, or retiring beginning of the year, which would be unusual, though that isn`t impossible.

You would be surprised by the amount of newfound AFOL's on the site. Most came out of their Dark Ages around the time they found BrickPicker. Many are in the same boat as yourself. Back on topic... Very nice build as usual, though speaking for myself, a Speakeasy isn't exactly up my alley.

The above are all speculations of course. I like the certainty of the dates, very compelling.

I think that having a subscription system gives you (as site founders) a better chance of forward planning - as you will be collecting revenues for the whole of the year you know what the minimum income levels will be from the start. If it is setup as a per-transaction setup, you could end up with a small and volatile pot of money to play with if it doesn't work quite as you'd hoped or needs improvements. Affiliate schemes and marketing won't be cheap but at least you'll know your baseline, and new shop setups or upgrades will only increase your options. From a seller user point of view, it seems you already have all the bases covered as the tiered structure you propose would only work out at a percentage of what you actually sold - though no-one like shelling out money upfront The only way it might be a problem is if you take out your subscription and then have a change of circumstances that affects how much time you have to list - but if you are just upgrading each time you sell that should still work out fine. (sorry if I've just rambled on and made no sense - it's been a long day and I'm tired)

The R2-D2 has been out 2 years this month,Like I said before if the set is going to retire its usually at the end of the year, so the set is a good seller and if it is retiring it will be at the end of the year, so look I have 23 going for 30 or so but I see no reason to Panic, and I would rather go to the Lego store and pay the extra $8.00 or so tax then to order them from Amazon or Walmart as the chances are high that the boxes will be damaged. Do picking up a Droid once a month or so is a good idea as you want to have this set as a money maker down the road. Ed

I'll try to clarify.... You are absolutely correct that LEGO drops their sets into the boxes vertically, but the flaps are always on the top and bottom. This way the flutes (those little wavy pieces in the middle) always stay vertical. You get the most edge crush strength when the flutes are vertical. The way you've stacked your packing boxes, all of the flutes are horizontal which means the LEGO boxes inside are carrying a fair bit of the load from the second and third rows. Scroll down to the Stacking Strength section ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corrugated_box_design And yes I realize that LEGO uses the same flat boxes for shipping (unless you get the original LEGO shipping box) but at that point they are generally assuming the consumer and shipper aren't (edit, oops) stacking them on their sides. And if you consider post offices and delivery trucks, they usually have shelves so that boxes aren't stacked more than 2 high. (hah, at least they shouldn't) Here are some pictures that hopefully help... Flutes in the cardboard provide vertical strength.. Flutes run the same around all sides of a box.. Stacking on the side doesn't get strength from the flutes.. Stacking top/bottom does because the sides provide crush strength to the next row. So the ultimate strength is in fact stacking boxes of the same size perfectly on top of each other, flaps to the top and bottom. Having said that, you can't stack forever. Crush strength of the bottom row is the only important one to consider. Criss-crossing rows is best when the cardboard has no flutes (like regular LEGO boxes).
