  1. Yes, I can tell you that the discounted sets have to do with the Star Wars theme

  2. While we wait till 8PM, I'll tell you about an experience I had last night...It was the pre-dawn hours and I was half asleep. I felt an evil, almost malicious presence in the room. I started sweating bullets, like I was in the middle of the Sahara Desert. I was fighting back fear, then my dog Skiffy, a Vizsla, jumped in my bed and I woke up. End of story.

  3. Alright... I'm really hoping to get a few likes for this one... I was disappointed with the TRU.ca sale, so I decided to roam the net, and I happened upon this site... http://www.playvaluetoys.com/ They have the rover available (limit 12 per customer), at 34.99 each. On top of that, they still have Uruk-Hai Armies, Helm's Deeps, Two-Face Chase and a bunch of older SW and POTC sets plus much more! Must check out! Most things are MSRP, but worth it for sets that have long disappeared! Free shipping in Canada with $75 purchase. They ship to US too!

  10. Very small selection when I got there. They were all adopted already. The half off discount really helped find those poor animals homes. There were only three dogs left when I got there and one was Skiffy.

  12. Give it a chance. It shouldn't be a downgrade refresh as the updated AT-AT and last year's Sail Barge in terms of design, size, and elements used. I will be getting mine on Saturday and will posting comparison pics early next week.

  13. One thing I have done is reserved my business name's .com and I point that web address straight to my eBay store page*. That reserves the name for you, points people to your inventory (you could point it to whatever other site you sell more on instead, if it's not eBay), and gives you the option in the future to create your own site if you want to. Buying a domain name is cheap, and well worth it to keep from kicking yourself in a few years when you really want to do something with mycoolstorename.com. *I have not checked that linkage in awhile, turns out it's defunct, lol. Doing online chat with godaddy right now to get it back in place. See, these threads are quite useful, they remind me to check things like that from time to time!

  16. Thanks guys. Looks like I'll be online at 9 placing a few orders. Will probably take the boys down later in the day tomorrow and avoid the crowds. Not thinking I am going to get rich investments wise with anything, but should be a good chance to let the boys pick out a cool set or two and maybe grab some Simpsons CMF's.

  17. Don't worry, the big discounted items aren't even in (m)any stores anymore and the rest of the stuff won't be going anywhere.

  18. There's also more than sufficient time to take a good look at the deals, crunch the numbers, and make decisions between the "official" announcement time and when LEGO Shop at Home goes live and/or the stores open tomorrow.

  20. Aaaanndddddd this is why I have way way way too many sets and not enough storage space left. I buy stuff that I find just "OK" basically as an insurance policy in case A) I like it later or It rockets in value. Lost count of how many times I told my wife "worst case I'll get my money back"

  21. You should have plenty more chances for a good deal on that. Anyone know if Amazon ends up matching the sale prices?

  22. And this is why Lego investing works Also, there are people who don't even know the SSD is a thing, but when they find out they might really, really want one. Next year when Star Wars fever comes back in full force, all of these OT sets are going to be hotcakes. I really didn't want a SSD for myself, as I'm not that into UCS models, but I bought one for myself anyway just in case.

  23. Alternatively, they could set it up for "I am your father" day, considering the back-order status rumors... It is certainly not as popular as May 4th, but they could try to make it more popular this way :-)

  25. Okay, I have a request - how about a "add this set to your Brickfolio" button? Sometimes I like to look up a set, and I'd love to just be able to click a button and have take me to the add page, rather than scrolling to the top, clicking "My Brickfolio" and then the add button. And then I still have to search for that set. If I was already on that set page, I'd like it to just be a single click.

  26. I hear the UK had a much better choice of dogs to choose from. I like British Bulldogs, but all they had was a Vizsla and a big greyish mutt and little sand colored Chi.

  37. I think the time component belongs to May 5th. They are not specifying from what time on the 3rd exactly it starts. Just another way for TLC to mess with our heads... like temporary OOS for SSD.

  43. Unless you have a very unique inventory - a huge quantity of old, vintage sets, or custom items, etc., there is no point in wasting time with your own site when you can sell on eBay, Amazon, Bricklink, Brickpicker (Soon!), etc. People gravitate to sites with the best selection, you'll never match the "mall" type stores.

  45. Hello On the 'quizzzzzzzzzzzzz' 1/ Discount on exclusives are "harder to get" but are still out very well -there-. have a look here: http://www.toysrus.fr/family/index.jsp?categoryId=4070781 2/ The "May 4th SW sale" was pre-announced by multiple Lego fan sites. The Brick Show, BrickSet, HothBricks etc said the same. This was the commercial intent of LEGO - makes sense as it boosts their sales 3/ Some sites also announced the EoL of SSD and R2D2. What I don't understand is why Lego.com would do that in the middle of an action like the current one? Give people a "last chance" to get one ? Being obliged to answer many order when in fact there's little stock left? Maybe cancelling stuff - what about customer service? My best guess is that by the end of this year, some of these sets will have disappeared. But it will take some time - the SSD and DS are out of stock everywhere. Has LEGO dramatically underestimated demand? I doubt that. => http://www.hothbricks.com/2014/04/retiring-soon-les-sets-10221-10225-bientot-en-rupture-definitive/ 4/ The http://shop.lego.com/fr-BE/Red-Five-X-wing-Starfighter-10240 gets a lot of bad press. Part out value is not worth it. If I were Lego, I'd stop producing the less popular stuff. Obviously on raw sales data, I haven't done my homework yet. Maybe somebody else has a better view on what ships / SW sets a selling well/ which ones not. regards

  46. i hope all of you freaking out about the SSD have plenty of curiosity rovers already, because it's going to outperform the SSD in both the long and short term and the rest of my rover money got stolen by the wife and turned into "we're going to disney for may the 4th" money I'm done buying rovers until we get back and she returns what's left of it

  48. Hate to burst your bubble, but honestly, I don`t think very much, if any, investment potential. The set design has been almost cookie-cutted, with minor changes, over and over again. There really isn`t too much to this set that makes it "desirable" in comparison to the many similar versions out there. 9494 is probably retired now, and has/is being replaced with this model (75038), which as you can see by looking at it just illustrates my point. Same ship, tiny changes, different paint job, not very much investment value or desirability for previous versions. One more thing to note is the mini figures. 9494 has several, but 3 are very common (neimoidian, droid, r2-d2) and the remaining two are also common, but have some small details changed. Every Lego SW collector and his/her dog has some version of Anakin and Obi-wan, making these figures desired only by completists (for the most part). Bottom line, most just by what is on the market. Many consumers of Lego are parents, grandparents, the target audience, kids, then there are collectors, AFOLs, investors, and a whole whack of others. Only reason I mention that is to say that pretty much the only people who will want this set now that is is (presumably) EOL are the last few groups mentioned who missed the opportunity to get them. Pretty much everyone else is going to go for 75038 as it is soon to be readily available. That does mean 9494 is a bad set, it`s just that there is little need for people to buy it now that EOL is coming. It does not offer very much more then 75038, and it is less money, so why should people pay a premium? So to recap: remake, very similar to previous models, minimal desirable mini figures, and 75038 replacing it = not very much desirability and thus little investment value. That`s just how I look at it. Value will remain constant, and rise slightly with age. I`d be very, very surprised if it went any other way.
