You are wasting your time convincing the downers to have faith in the theme. What they are chasing after is sharp increase right after EOL, fast profit, easy money. LotR certainly does not fit that. Just let them be.

Back in the day when I used to deliver pizzas, if anyone tried to pay us in coin I would make them count it out in front of me and sometimes even make the roll it before I would accept it. I knew I wasn't getting a tip (anyone who pays with a bag of coins is too cheap to tip anyways) so I liked to have fun with them. One time a dude was short 14 cents so I made him go look for it before I gave him the pizza. Good times good times.

I'd completely disagree with this, so far the retired LOTR's sets have done very well in my opinion. Helms deep already

I open all the bags and give the minifigures to my son to build and lose the guns, tools, helmets, ect. Then I dump the bags and organize by color. I start handing pieces to my daughter 1 or two direction numbers ahead of where she is. While she is building, I sort the pieces further by shape and size. I try to fit all the same type of pieces together so they don't get lost when my son is done building the minifigures. When I am several steps ahead of my daughter, and all the bricks are organized, I start helping my son find the lost pieces. When building alone, I do pretty much the same thing, only I work bag by bag and have several glasses of scotch.

The question of is X set a good investment in daily thread really annoys me. But I get it not everyone can make decisions on their own and most people. In life are followers and not leaders. So it's only natural these questions happen. Still annoy me. But.... There is no excuse and it makes me crazy only because it happens all the time now. X set is on sale. Guys guys guys submit your price match to amazon. Guyssss .... Amazon does not have item and hasn't forever. I can think of five occasions this has happened on past month. The only thing that makes me Not scream at a wall is the fact that these people are my supposed competition on the reselling market. If you can't see that an item is not sold by Amazon or you think cause it's on amazon from a third party seller that that somehow translates to amazon price matching then how will you ever navigate ebay. I'll be submitting my price matches to your ebay store in the near future.:)

Finished Temple of Doom earlier in the week - sweet set that needs a decent amount of shelf real estate to display. In the middle of R2D2 - what a great build. IMO, every Lego SW collector needs to own this set. My only complaint is that it's a bit pricey for the final size of the model.

Yes, and Yes. That hasn't stopped me from trying to put together a few more sets this way. I've got the Grand Carousel, Zombies, and Winter Toy Shop that I'm doing this way as well. They're a bit easier to put together than Mini Modulars, but it's definitely a pain in the ass. I have around 75 lbs of bulk LEGO here that I'm in the process of sorting. So, it's been fun to separate, and then use the BL inventories to search for what I need. Once you factor in time spent looking for parts, though, it's definitely a money saver to just buy the original set. All the above I want to keep, so I have a little more incentive to just BL it. But for stuff that I want just build and then get rid of (no room for it, no longer term desire to keep it, etc) I think it's worth it to just buy it and sell it later. For example, I'd love to build one of the retired modulars, so I will probably just buy it (even if it's in the $500 range), build it, and then sell it off. Even if I were to lose $40 on something like that, I would have gotten $40 worth of enjoyment out of it.

I gotta go with Krayzie on this. Living in LA for a while, commuting to school every morning. Who DOESN'T know there is a line to get on the freeway, oh.....except that person in the nice Lexus who is too important to wait like the rest of us, bypassing ALL 30 cars in line to accidentally nudge the nose of her car right into the FWY on-ramp entrance. "oh theres a liiiiiine behind me? oopsie" Then some white little car cuts me off at the Chevron, who gets out to pump gas? Leonardo DiCaprio! who is too cool for the traffic rule apparently. Then Black Friday here in Ohio last year. Waiting outside, freezing a bit in front of Kohls to buy things wifey wanted (asleep and warm in her bed). Wait for an hour in a long line and when it opens, all of a sudden little leaches come out of their warm cars to bumrush the entrance and cut in line. People booing and hissing, rightfully so. I mean come on, dont give me that "oooooh I didnt know there was a line heeeeeeere, ooopsie" Cartman attitude. Since day one in school kids learn about lines and order. My wife is from Europe, where Legos are born apparently. And as civilized as you think it'd be, those people push, shove and cut in line like its the last chopper out of Saigon. I had enough one day of some guy pushing my wife aside and elbowed the bro sharply in teh chest and apologized in my other language feigning sincerity, he got the point. To round out my weekend, my favorite calibre rifle ammo is being banned from import, thanks government. Grrrrr.

I bricklinked a set once. I learned two things: 1) It's not that much cheaper than buying the complete set on the aftermarket (for retired sets). It can actually be more expensive if you're not careful. 2) It's a pain in the a$$. However, it does feel like an accomplishment when you finally finish it. I recommend everyone do it once for the experience.

I really don't understand comments like these. I can still find wave 1 LOTR at stores. I was just at TRU today and they were 5 deep in Mines of Moria (granted, at $99 TRU markup, but still). I was at a TRU last week that had 2 HD sitting on the shelf. I just bought 3 Weathertop sets at Kmart clearance a few weeks ago. These sets just retired, there is still stock out in the wild. Give it time. Everyone for some reason thinks they will make instant money the moment that "retired" tag hits on lego.com. It seems like it's a rare occurance for a set to skyrocket once retired. It happens a few times with sets like cafe corner, zombies, etc, but that's not the norm. LOTR is a great theme, well known and well loved. New AFOLs come into the market every day, and they will be looking for classics like LOTR.

I hate that I forgot my headphones at the gym. The miley cyrus music playing in the gym is affecting my lifts.

I also forgot to mention the now-retired Monster theme. Love it !

Any new set ideas you would love to see Lego do in the future? My idea is to do new sets based on things from Disney World. I would love to see the Magic Kingdom Castle, It's a Small World set based off the ride, Splash Mountain set (minus the tar baby that is in The Song of the South film, but thank God is not in the ride). It would be awesome to see a turnable set based off of the Carousel of Progress with different scenes of history to it like the ride (almost like the Death Star has with the different scenes.) Loc Blocs did the Magic Kingdom Castle years ago, but I know Lego could do t much better. Any ideas?

I miss Italy so much. some day if I get rich, I mean really rich, and my wife say's it's OK. I want to move to Capri. I loved it there so much. and I would be closer to some of my family still over there and in Greece.

People seem to be wanting instant returns again as soon as a set goes EOL. It could take a few years to see a decent return. Just because the FB doubled in a month does not mean the LOTR range will also. As Allen says..... Patience Also HD is already above its UK RRP.

1. Is it just a coincidence that only UK folks are down on the LotR sets? Maybe the theme is just not for the UK or EU market. 2. Can we have some patience here? I dont have a lot of experience but a winner set doesn't always mean it will skyrocket within a few months after EOL. Lego collectors are not stupid. They look for ways to buy the sets they love for cheap. Give some time for new collectors to develop their interest. By the meantime you earn your profit by outpatient other sellers willing to sell for low. 3. Do you really expect a big secondary market price increase when lots of potential buyers are recovering from post holiday stress syndrome?

Sold Riddler Chase w/o Minifigs right before I left for work this am. Wife says she will ship for me. Calls me at work later, do you think they will mind if I closed the box (set box) with priority mail labels? D'oh. Lucky I had a second set. Wife switched boxes. I got home and found the comic and stickers on the floor under her desk. I will make nothing on this.

I don't know why you guys are slamming this....this idea would totally work! ....if they sent each set locked and sealed in one of these: Actually, please forget that I even mentioned this, I've got my new business venture planned, all for a mere $7 per month per subscriber.

Hello from Belgium. I'm 32, my gf 33 and we're expecting a baby soon. I was looking at investment plans and after finding the stock market too abstract, risky and ..; well... boring, I looked for alternatives and tried to find something I was good with... being Lego. I have built Lego for eons but hadn't found out until 2 months ago how profitable it could be. I started out buying 2 batches of used mixed lego and sold them for 50% profit so far after many hours of rebuilding. My gf got interested too and we decided she'd handle the modular and special items and I would focuss on the themes (marvell, sw, harry potter, lotr, hobbit). Let's see how it goes. Thank you all for contributing to this forum, it has guided me in making some nice purchases so far!

My risk management has nothing to do with the actual shipping companies. My risk management has to do with the buyer. You for example I would be happy to deal with, you seem to be a reasonable person -- you understand that there can be customs issues -- everything from delays, to customs opening boxes so that they are no longer sealed in mint condition or even damaging them. If there was a check box for "Only sell to honest buyers who have common sense" then I would just check that check box, then happily sell world wide. The 100+ feedback was an arbitrary number, it could be 10 or 50, or whatever an individual feels is a good indicator of a honest buyer that is experienced with making international purchases and is unlikely to be someone that is already planning on filing a not-received or received damaged claim before they ever clicked on buy. As for listing specific things so they have no other option, see my original post -- within 24hrs of starting to sell on eBay, with the only shipping options being Domestic, I had a buyer from South Korea, with an account with zero feedback that was less then a day old complete a BIN and then requested an invoice with a comment asking for shipping to Seoul. I told them I don't ship internationally, as indicated by the fact I only selected domestic shipping options, but quoted them shipping anyway and indicated if it was too much I could cancel the transaction. No response for 4 days, then a replay with just three words "shipping too much" -- so I then attempted to cancel the transaction, and the buyer sat on the cancellation notification until ebay closed it out automatically about a week later. I know more now, but it was truely annoying to have it happen on my 3rd order and so soon after I started selling -- was hoping to go at least a month before my first bad transaction.

There have been many minor comments the last week or so that didn't really impress me as being fair and carefully stated. There was not one particular comment or person to whom I am referring to or I would warn that person in private. My statement was just in general, but served as a warning as well. I am the first person to crack a joke or be sarcastic and don't want to be some tight ass moderator, but everyone must understand that there are all types of people on this site. Very young, very old, all races and nationalities, male, female and somewhere in between I'm sure. It's all good. People just need to make sure they are careful the way they present their ideas and topics and that it will not offend someone. I've had my fill of some negative attitudes and will weed those characters out in time. People can constructively disagree without being nasty or insulting. I want to keep this site fun and friendly, which it has been for 99.9% of the time. That is all... :-) Ed
