Brickpickers, A local boy is battling a rare form of bone cancer and has been quarantined in his house for months. His aunt is asking the community to cheer him up with a special Lego wonderland at his school. He was scheduled to make a trip to the Lego world headquarters in Denmark but that has been postponed due to recent setbacks. Sold a few Unikitties from the Cloud Cuckoo Palace. I feel like she is the Boba Fett of The Lego Movie. Yeah...that's right, I just compared Unikitty to Boba Fett.

I didn't have any as a child - but it hurts me inside everytime I see some child getting rid of all his legos for pennies on the dollar. I have had several Craigslist deals I tried to talk people out of selling because when I went to pick it up I knew they will regret it in 5-10 years. Live and learn. Outside of incredibly bad financial problems, I will never sell my Lego sets I buy to build. I buy everyone with the intention of keeping it forever.

I know this topic is a few months old but thought I would share this. I enjoy trying my hand at most things, although I am not the most creative person in the world I thought I would try and come up with a nice way of displaying the Team GB set that I have managed to collect. So with a bit of measuring, cutting, printing etc I came up with this: I have had a play around and made a few different backgrounds. I actually have 3 full sets of figures, 1 set we will keep but I might sell the other 2 sets complete with frames depending on what a full set goes for on eBay.

I can agree to what some people are saying. There are more investors around so there is a possibility of flooding of sets. I believe this will temper the prices on retired sets in the future. There still will be profits made but not as much as on the Taj Mahal or Eiffel Tower. I believe these were less produced at the time and they were not available in all shops and had less lifetime. Now you see that every self-respecting town has its own lego-shop with exclusive sets. Years ago that was absolutely not the case. However, do not forget. There is still an economic crisis going on (especially in Europe). Alot of people simply cannot afford to buy lego, let alone those expensive sets! They would like to, but they can't! When the economy will go better in the coming years people will have jobs and more money on their hands and buy the good old exclusive classics. So I believe there are chances there. In this regard it is a must that lego retires SSD and DS. Otherwise people will have to many choices on the retail market and not buy our older retired sets. I just hope the new generations will stay interested in Lego. When I look around I see alot of kids who do not care for lego. They are to much into their smart phones and computer games. This I believe is the biggest thread to us lego investors. My advice: If you have money laying around... buy and invest in the bigger exclusive sets. And flip some medium sets in between to cover a bit for your investments done.

I did look up to find some of the stuff Character Building is coming out with this year for Doctor Who including a figure based on the latest Doctor. I can only surmise that although they still have the license; CB may have lost certain exclusive rights to the brand allowing a possibility for another company such as Lego to release items based on the TV series. Anyway, the CUUSOO project submitted by GlenBricker and Kaminoan has hit the full support milestone and received an official comment by Lego. Sorry I am late to this as I just noticed it. As a father of a daughter with an uncurable disease, I know the struggles and stress of daily life. I'm willing to donate either money or another set. Let me know what else he needs.

Or they do not care how much they are worth. Next to the hospital bill's the family has to endure its nothing. Whenever I am in the hospital and a patient smiles, be it an adult or a child, it makes my day. I wish I could do more but sometimes all I can offer is a smile and a hand to hold.

Go Cardinals! Should be another great baseball year. A little about me. 42, Married, and I just acquired the best thing ever. We are adopting a little boy, Robert. He is just over 5 weeks old. Super stoked to finally have a building buddy. Although I have to admit this level of sleep deprivation was not forseen. Wow. Of all people my mom is responsible for bringing me out of the dark ages. I think it was 2009/2010 when she asked me to remove last few items from my old room before they moved. In my box of Lego I found classic space sets, vintage castle sets, and a nearly new in box 6285 Barracuda. The Barracuda I received as a senoir in Highschool. It was basically a display model and really didn't get played with. I still have it, the box and manuals. I have been hooked ever since. I buy large theme concentrated lots on eBay and do my best to restore (complete each set), build and finally resell sets. Don't make a lot because of the time spent, but it sure is fun. As a AFOL and investor, I have been building inventory ever since. My best purchase ever: I found a $5 off each purchase over $25 at Target and I bought (12) 9465 Zombies sets. Still have 6. I wish I bought more...funny each set was shipped individually. Some of my better purchases, bought (6) 10210 for an avg price of 148.00. Buying (3) 10212 from target on Discount 207.00 Buying (3) 10188 from target on discount 295.00 Buying (4) 8043 from TRU on discount 156.00 Other notable purchases have been holiday sets on discount. Taking advantage of Amazon UK for great Technic set discounts. Last summer I went crazy buying: 9398 9396 42000 Biggest flop...buying 99 Pharaohs Quest Battle packs. I still have 83 of them. Very diff to move. My favorite theme is vintage Pirates. I have every major set. Most in multples. If someone needs something to fill in their collection contact me and we can trade. Best investment advice...buy what you know. Look for exckusives and short production runs. When in doubt stick to the Legacy themes (pirates, castle, city, technic etc) Why are they so popular? Because the people who grew up with them as kids are now seeking them out as adults. Rinse and repeat....what is very popular right now will probably come around again in 20 yrs (opinion: Lego Movie could be a big one). Look at the solid gains of the Vintage Pirate theme...the Ship sets are really picking up some momentum. Build, build build...what is the point of having all this Lego without using it? It is rising. I think it was predictable it would rise up at least to about $300. But I am not sure it has much higher of a ceiling with its production run. DO we really think its a $400 set? Not sure. Thats why I will probably be done with the 3 I have at $300.

The parks usually have a few random keychain type things that aren't everywhere, but for the most part they have all the same stuff. The only thing to look out for is the new miniland scale people set that should be a park exclusive. Not sure when it will be released though.

Not sure what you should buy, but fair warning: The shop at Legoland is not a LEGO brand store thus you cannot redeem VIP points nor gain them on purchases there.

You can stack a nice $10 off $50, so I fiddled with a couple orders to get them as close to $50 as possible to max the discount. There is at least one must buy out of the sets that are for sale! Must! I have a Sears store card, plus I link it through swagbucks for a couple extra % off.

I met Gavin's Aunt today. I can't begin to tell you how happy she was to hear what everyone is doing for him. She was extremely grateful. She did give me Gavin's home address so I'll PM everyone that wanted to mail him something. I told her to warn his mom that some random packages will start arriving over the next couple of weeks :-) I also told her about the Death Star. She couldn't believe that either! $65 more until we reach our goal! She suggested that I wait until after the event is over tonight before making the purchase just in case he receives one. I will send her an email to see if he got one. He did receive some bigger sets, but not a Death Star from what I could tell. Here are some pictures from the event. I think this will be a birthday to remember :-)

I'm amazed that Emazer's decisions are still so influential on so many. He happily admits to only selling $20k per year to avoid receiving a 1099 from PayPal. Even if he doubled that on the side, there are plenty of people who are moving 5x+ of those numbers every year. Those are the people I'd want to be duplicating.

I see a few reasons: 1. Some people have online stores that benefit from a breadth of product line and use it as a differentiator. 2. Small sets are easier to buy since they're not as expensive. 3. There are very few large sets from Super Heroes, TMNT, Friends, Ninjago, Lord of the Rings and Hobbit sets, popular themes for most investors. 4. It's easier for small sets to earn strong ROI since their cost bases are smaller.

You will be ok.....it's not as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to be, same with the DUPLO zoo.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the build, it's one of my favourite sets. Only thing I would have liked is a way to get some of Haldir's elven archers to man the walls. Other than Helm's Deep (& Uruk-Hai Army) I think Tower of Orthanc & Unexpected Gathering will be the most sought after sets in the future.

Took me a good long while to but I finally managed getting the main post list updated with proper links, retails, set names, and even organized a little better. There should only be a couple loose ends needing to be tied in due time but everything we know of is there I believe. Well I'm pooped.

I am up to 5. I don't stock up in the double digits too often, but I think I will head towards 10 on this one. I think it is winner because Frank Lloyd Wright is a star of architectural design like Batman or Spiderman to comic book fans. This is a great model, and there are a lot of people that don't realize lego makes these models. As they see them, the early ones will be valuable like the first wave Batman sets. The Robie is the biggest to date, and is a sleeper because it isn't as well known as Fallingwater. I will continue to collect these if I can find them around $150. My TRU has them that cheap whenever there is BOGO sale. It think it has a good chance to hit $400 within 2 years. It might not be a quick flip, but I wouldn't be surprised if it went a lot higher. There has never been a large architecture set retired. We will have to wait and see. It hasn't seen huge discounts and sold out pretty quickly from Amazon. We will have to see how many are in the TRU and Barnes and Noble systems. Not many other places have them around me. The entire Architecture line is still a sleeper with most people, even after its performance this holiday season. Don't forget about Fallingwater. I pick these up below $75. I think it will have a higher CAGR than Robie House.

There was a rumor floating around about an upcoming Hot Wheels or Matchbox/Lego collaboration. That's what this looks like - take a peak at the front hood of the car. It has two blue studs on it that the minifig stands on. If it's true, I find it mildly amusing they would choose to put a lucha libre wrestler with an el Camino type car...
