I always stick with describing sets as new in the box and avoid using the term mint at all costs. Describing something as "mint" sets unrealistic expectations in some buyers and generally attracts the type of buyer who is going to return something if they find even a tiny defect.

Turning bunches of Captain America sets into SSDs wasn't much work.

If $85 is a good deal, then...Well you do the math.

If you are going to buy another one of each set, I would recommend building the set with the worse box condition. You can save the set in better condition, so that you can make more money.

The value of the MF is going to go through the roof after retirement, whenever that may be, precisely because it will be in the next few SW episodes, and it is undisputably the most recognizable ship in the Star Wars saga. Now if you have the capital to buy one to build, and one or more to invest, I'd go for it. The MF looks great when built, and it looks really awesome with the flaps that fold outwards to display the interior. The 10240 Red X-Wing came out this year, and it probably won't retire for a while, so I think you have time to buy at least another one for investing. It's hard to tell at this point whether it will be a successful investment based on past records, since this is the first remade UCS model, but my gut is telling me it will bring in a pretty penny once it retires.

Doesnt seem that crazy. The instruction manual for market street sells for $100, ive seen its box go for close to that as well. Maybe people are investing in the box, or they bough a set and the box was badly damaged and they want a replacement.

The Cottage is my favorite, too. And my first set ever. If I see it 20% off again in January, I'll pick up a few more. Story: seeing the cottage on sale was my eye-opener to the potential of Lego. The clerk told me an eariler customer bought 11 @ 20% off. That made so much sense I couldn't bear it. I probably found BrickPicker that same night. Anyway I think I'm done buying this year. I've got about 100 sealed sets of varying sizes, and no more than 7 of any one set. I have 7 HDs, 3 VCs, 5 UGs, 4 R2s, 4 VWs, 4 HHs, 3 41999s, 3 8110s, B-wings and Funhouses and and a Super Star Destroyer, oh my. I don't know if I really expect any of them to eol this year. Anyway that's my keeper stash for now. Although I do still want a Kingdoms Joust, so maybe one more buy before 2014.

Everyone cares about how there item is shipped and their initial view is formed right away upon opening the package. You keep sending the boxes in bubble mailers and you will have a problem regardless what you say in the description. if no one has made a fuss yet you have been lucky. I agree with you about smaller sets. I love them, some appreciate quickly, are cheap to ship and shipping multiples isnt that much more work than shipping the bigger sets. Plus the Large sets are pain to package and have more risk. Id rather sell 100 small sets and make a little off the shipping for my time. As far as using Bubble Mailers It doesnt cost that much more maybe .50 and not much more work to properly box the set. Id reconsider your strategy or you will learn the hard way. I also ship hundreds of items in bubble mailers but would not dare to send any Lego box that way. May not be an investment at $25 very well could be a gift and your showing your buyers you dont really care how their item looks when it arrives. Bad business IMO

1 x 7965 Millennium Falcon - $70. Went to one random Walmart today. Marked down on the regular shelf, no red tag. They had an empty shelf space for Goblin King for $15, lol.

The first 2 winter village sets (10199 and 10216) were both available for 3 holiday seasons. 10222 however was only available for 2 holiday seasons. Since the cottage is on it's second holiday season right now it could go after this year, but I'm a firm believer that Lego is going to start keeping the newer holiday sets (the cottage and the new winter village market) around a lot longer than the previous 3. The first 3 were $50-70 sets and the 2 newer sets are $100 sets. I don't see them continuing the 2 or 3 seasons and out method that they used before with sets that are $100 and up. Rather I think the newer holiday sets will start to follow a similar trend that the modulars are now on. The Cottage was a huge seller for TLG last year and I'm sure it will be around for at least another year or two, or five haha

May be something others already know, but if giving a refund through paypal and you don't have a balance, Paypal doesn't front the money. they contact your bank and it will usually take several days. Many of you may already know this. You also cannot cancel it once it happens. I have never had a problem before. I was trying to refund someone yesterday and it is pending until thursday and though I now have money in my account, nothing can be done paypal said. Luckily it was so we could cancel a transaction and repurchase so my ebay buyer is cool. But I wanted to alert anyone who had to give a refund to an Ebay buyer. Don't want to take a chance on getting a negative because you have to wait 4 days.

What about the Winter village cottage 10229? This is it's second year and it should be retired after new years. all the sets from the winter village series had so far a 2 year life span.

I spend them pretty much as I get them. When LEGO, working in close cooperation with the NSA, stop harassing Angela Merkel and get around to tracking my secret location here deep in an underground bunker, I don't want to lose them in the ensuing firefight and apocalypse.

LOTR is a decades old franchise, but there hasn't really been a toy line that does it justice until now. When someone decides they want to show their love by displaying a nice model or toy, the Lego line is one of the top contenders. The same goes for Harry Potter. These two themes are going to be hunted in attics for decades to come.

Lord of The Rings has been around for decades and been super popular among young men for generations. It is the second highest selling novel of all time. The movies aren't what made LOTR popular. Teenage boys will continue to read this book for generations. There WILL always be a large demand for LOTR stuff...always...
