New Lego Investors are dropping like flies, alot of guys think they buy a couple hundred dollars of sets and make a thousand real quick, take the B-wing, guys were selling them for $125 and up, these guys lost money, its like that everyday people think its so easy to just start buying lego sets and make the big bucks, but when they find out they have to wait for a set to retire and then they may have to wait 2 years or more to make the big bucks, well these guys are out. If you have the right sets you will always do good, thats IF you buy the right sets. Get Those Tower Bridges, Haunted Houses, SSDS,Epic Battle, ETC.

I'm usually a naysayer in these discussions, but I'll be brief. No product or collectable has ever been able to sustain the type of growth that LEGO has been experiencing over the last few years. While growth may continue, there is no way that Lego's sales can double every three years, and there's no way most retired sets could increase at that rate either.

The vast majority of LEGO sets are purchased by children. When the kids stop buying, that is the time to start worrying.

I do not think so. I think with the Internet and sellers being able to sell sets in places consumers can not easily access we will be ok. Consumption goes up and down, fads come and go, new kids are born everyday. There will be slower times, but all in all I think there will always be a market. Today's consumers are also very spontaneous. They do not put much thought into purchasing.. especially gifts. Many are so busy, they wait to the last minute and then impulsively purchase to meet a deadline or make someone happy. LEGO has been getting alot of attention lately (Bloomberg video today) about their Brand. They are extremely smart and there is a reason they are so successful. Their brand I honestly believe will continue to grow. Some say LEGO is timeless, I personally believe as of right now, they are extremely strong in the market and holding their own against digital media entertainment.

I had a guy that I sold a lot to use my auction pictures AND entire listing to turn around and try to sell for a higher price. I didn't care he wanted to make some money, but get off you lazy butt and take your own damn pictures, and your own words. I complained to him and ebay and got it removed, but when he emailed me back it was if nothing he had done was wrong. Moron.

So I was at my local Canadian target at lunch today (Greater Vancouver area) and they have started clearance on the current LOTR sets. My location had Mines of Moria for $69.99, Shelob Attacks for $17,99 and Weather Top for $52.99. Not bad pricing especially on the Weather Top. Add an extra 5% discount with Redcard and there's a few deals to be had. I don't know if this clearance is chain wide or not tho, it's the only location near me. Orc Forge was also on clearance for $34.99, but there were none left because I bought the last 23 they had yesterday! lol

If I make the purchase, I always then iimedately add it to my brickfolio. Currently (while in the Price Guide page for a set, I need to click "Brickfolio", then, "Add Brickfolio Item", then search for it, and "then click on the result" before I get to the page where the data can be entered.

Agreed, I'd start to worry when people who are buying on the secondary market are primarily keeping things in the box. Other collectable markets have burst because it's just a collectable and the majority of the time any one of us sells a discontinued set that's new it very quickly looses that status and the higher value.

If I'm going to get an RC car/truck then I will buy one specifically desinged for that purpose. RC Lego is for indoor playing only and not intended for serious competiton, racing or play. It's not intended to be abused as a purpose designed RC vehicle is. There's no way a Lego constructed RC car or truck is going to be as strong as Tamiya's, Losi's, Kyosho's, Associated's, PHP's, or a slew of others. These vehicles are made with steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, high impact ABS, nylon type components that can handle the stresses encountered. I can flip one of my Tamiya cars end over end and it survives to keep racing. Want to try that with this 4x4 crawler? I don't think so........ Making a Lego RC is more of a novelty than a serious attempt at trying to compete with those other brands I mentioned. Do I think Lego RC is cool as hell? You bet I do! Do I expect them to perform like a purpose built RC vehicle? Hell no! I know better. If you want to hop up or mod these Technic sets then go for it, have fun but don't ever expect them to survive in serious competition. They will fail. Enjoy them for what they are.

Will the Haunted House be worth $700 4 years after eol? Probably not. Will it be worth $300 2 years after eol? Probably so. If that's not a good ROI for you, then there is no pleasing you.

I don't think interest in Lego is slowing with kids at all. I can only count on one hand the number of times I was in the Lego aisle and a parent isn't buying their kid a set. Maybe there are better things to sink investment money into in Canada? Immediate returns don't require good CAGR ratings. If you acquire multiples of a sought after set for 50% off or more, flip it for 30% profit immediately or a few months later. Roll that money up into buying bigger sets for long term investments. The perfect time to do this is during Christmas and July clearance seasons. Wait a few months for the quick flippers to get rid of their stock where they sell low and then start listing the near term retired sets or sought after EOL stuff for MSRP or a little more. It doesn't take much to turn decent profits. It's just a little more up front work with the smaller sets.

I think it needs to be pointed out this is a website that people from all around the world visit. Each person locality has different prices and demands. Not all of us live in America and have access to there retail prices, most are inflated. Most people only like to buy locally or country specific to save on shipping. These things need to be considered when looking to invest and like shares they take awhile to mature.

You're fun, and you really like coupons, so I'll give you a tip. Keep in mind I have not done this... You know those coupon books you buy from high schools or chick-fil-a? Sometimes they have 10, 20, & 30% off Lego coupons. Sometimes people will sell them on ebay.

pm me I have a bunch of $5 off $50 purchase coupons that I don't think I will use b4 they expire. I can send you a few if you want. It would be a shame for them to be wasted.

The Lego channel on Youtube recently did a series of about a dozen videos on specific techniques. They're just 2 minute tutorials done by Lego designers, but they're fun.

Whenever I go on an excessive hunt, I try to hit a kmart and spend at least $50 (lego or other things I may need). When you hit that mark they give you a coupon for 30 cents off per gallon of gas at BP stations. That savings (around $6) gets me about 2 1/2 gallons of gas for free. I get about 26 miles to a gallon. So, the way I see it, anything under 65 miles becomes economically justifiable.

I guess it isn't official anywhere, but it's the price.

Common sense tells me clearance shopping is dumb. At least in my area. What a waste of time, gas, wear and tear, and emotionally draining! I am completely done---I refuse to even bother. Online 100% for me from now on.

Welcome. I'm almost fearing asking what you sold back then...anyway you said you made a profit so I guess it's all relative. Anyway, you will find this site to be a valuable resource nonetheless. I'd look up some of the sets you had before and gauge how much they appreciated, maybe use that knowledge to make good decisions on themes/sets that are available now.

Speaking of clearance, affluence, Mines of Moria, and 1st world problems, I got to witness the soccer Mom effect first hand today. Walked into a Target where they had one mine left on clearance at 55.98 or whatever they were. It was down to one from about 6 or so before the clearance. 8 year old kid hits the aisle with soccer Mom in tow. Kid: "Hey Mom, can I get this one? It used to be 79.99, but now it's 55.98!" Mom: "Sure, little Johnny. That must be a good price if it was 79.99 before." Me: Don't get me wrong, I could've got the set but chose not to, and everyone else has a right to buy whatever they want. Glad a kid got it and his Mom seemed cool. But it's a perfect example of why you get better deals in some areas as opposed to others. When I was a kid, my Father would've whooped my ass for even thinking about asking for something that cost that much. It better be Christmas or my birthday if he's gonna spend that kind of cheese.

I think that the Death Star, once it reaches eol status, will steadily increase on the secondary market. Even though it has been around for so long, and there has probably been alot produced, it will remain a very sought after set.....if u don't have one now, go get one soon...I don't believe it will be around much longer....

You can get one Hot dog cart per transaction. You can make more than one transaction though.

You really are quite a piece of work. Your logic is tired. If Spongebob is retiring soon then why is it not on clearance everywhere else? Again, just because target has it on clearance does not mean EOL is imminent.. It is entirely possible, but you have no concrete PROOF.
