I fear this will be the Hobbit of Harry Potter movie wise. This was a 50 page or so book. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the ‘Harry Potter’ series but an extension of the wizarding world,” Rowling explained." No prequel btw.

Not sure this sound promising.  There really seems to be little connection with the harry potter books, Its really sounding like an over blown hollywood production.  I predict lots of effects and action with little in the way of plots and story lines.  I am also not sure who they will target for their audience.  most core potter fans are now in their 20s and early 30s, not a key movie going demographic these days.  going after pre and early teens who have no really connection to potter, is quite a different movie than going after the potter fans.

Set in New York roughly seven decades before Harry Potter’s saga starts, “Fantastic Beasts” is based on the Hogwarts textbook of the same name and follows the adventures of its author, Newt Scamander. Scamander is described as a “magiczoologist,” which in the “Harry Potter” realm is a person who studies magical creatures. Besides Scamander, there are four other main roles — two American girls and two American boys — that the studio is looking to cast.

“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the ‘Harry Potter’ series but an extension of the wizarding world,” Rowling explained.

as for the lego connection, I suspect the license is long gone.  will have to wait and see if they go after the new stuff.

The only HP characters that could appear in this are younger versions of some HP teachers, perhaps Doubledoor (or his twin) ? ;)  The setting is 70 years in the past, so even Voldermort is not born yet.

I am thinking this will be more like Jurrassic Park but with dragons, griffins, centaurs, unicorns, phoenix, etc etc
In other words, you can just watch Narnia:The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe movie :D:D:D

So we're expecting new Harry Potter film by Nov 18th, but not heard any rumour about new lego sets?

Does it mean TLG has no rights anymore to create and commercialise new lego sets? But it has rights to do so with Dimensions???

Either new sets arrive or not, it should be good news for holders of iconic sets such as Castle 4842 and Diagon 10217 right?

Curious what the opinions are on this as well, particularly 10217 Diagon Alley..... I've been eyeing that up recently thinking I should jump on it. Is now the time? Is it likely to climb higher than it has already?

[Does anyone have one for cheap they want to set me up with? :P  ]

I never got into Star Wars, but know how people that did feel due to Harry Potter! There are very few things I spend money on for myself and the castle and diagonal alley were 2 I did! I actually have 2 4842 castles and 1 diagonal alley all used but I doubt I will ever sell them. My kids know I love them and they love them too :)
