Helm's deep has finally hit £200 over here on Amazon so recently sold 10 of them, will hold the rest until sometime after Christmas to see what the aftermath is like.

Sold a Mini cooper polybag for $30 CDN after fees and shipping on Amazon.

Also had my first trade today. A guy who missed out on my LOTR listings offered to trade a sealed Uruk Hai army that he had no use for (he has no Helm's Deep) for my Research Institute. So I traded away a set that cost me $25 and was selling for $50 for a set that retailed for $40 and that I have sold for $100. Good math for me. However it may be theoretical because even though I have supplemented my personal Helms Deep with 2 Uruk Hai add ons already, I am really tempted to expand the wall.

Have my HD at 3 extra walls long (as seen in collection/stockroom thread), well worth it if you mod them to be flat faced :3 I've debated grabbing a 4th as a local mom and pop store still has these in stock at $50 or so.

You and I are both in Toronto so I won't ask you where that store is, but if it was me I'd empty them out and then deal with whether to sell or build. I would certainly pay $50 to expand the wall which is why getting this for $25 effectively is compelling me to open it.

eBay is only at £125-150 for this set.

I've not seen one sell for over £150 on eBay, that's some sweet prices you're getting there on Amazon

I hear ya on the bulk lot break, I just started a huge lot, it gets tedious rather quickly.

How is a 25% profit over retail a total waste of time

I have sold several for $35 after a $24 buy in an I am thrilled. Profit is profit

Unless u sold them for cash there are fees involved and shipping costs among others .

Yeah one of the many reasons I prefer selling on Amazon, better overall customer and almost always a higher selling price, even though the fee's are higher you still make more.

I'm about to meet a guy to sell my one and only Exo Suit. Buy in was like $32 and some change. Selling it for $35. Looking forward to getting rid of this one. $3 profit.....woohoo!!!

Nothing wrong with cashing out at (basically) buy-in so you can reinvest the money more smartly.

So far I've inventoried and accurately identified about 5 ~500 piece sets, but this still leaves something like 15lbs of bulk to be sorted and discovered. 

So my question is, do you input these sets into your brickfolio as used sets? If so, how do you come up with the initial buy in value of that set from a lot still being processed? Do you update the prices as you discover more sets? Do you weigh the completed set and then do a percentage of the lot's weight, figuring the cost on a weight basis? 

 

What works for folks? Looking for some ideas.

When I've had this situation in the past I have just divided the purchase amount by the sets I've found inside - leftover bulk purchase.  Example, I find 10 City vehicle sets in a lot that I purchased for $100.  When I'm done, I have 5lb left that I sell for $5/lb, or $25.  I input each "used" set at $7.50 buy-in since I reduced my purchase from $100 to $75 due to selling off excess bulk.  The $75 I have left is equally divided by the remaining sets.

I usually do this if sets are similar.   If I have a much bigger set that obviously would skew data, I give that set more weight.  It's not an exact science, but it's close and the bottom line will end up the same if you sell them all as you buy-in never changes no matter what value you give each set.
