There is already some speculation as to the shelf life of this set albeit a newer one. I was wondering what everyone thought about this set. It is somewhat overpriced being 430 pieces but msrp of $59.99 instead of $49.99. No other set however has the Ringwraiths yet nor does it look like any other set will so far. Merry is exclusive to the set and the Frodo contains an exclusive variation which I think is just his cape is different. Aragorn is in one other set. The horses are exclusive variations I believe. It is oos on Barnes and Noble.com (other sellers selling high), limit 1 per customer at Lego.com, and looks like Amazon itself isn't selling (other sellers not Amazon). I picked up 2 at my Walmart on clearance for $40 but saw another one the other day. Was considering getting it...

I feel you pain with this one. There are tons of leftover LotR sets around here (except for Helm's Deep) and they are all retail still.

I'm pretty confident they will go on clearance very soon now, along with the other first line LOTR sets. My home store just seems very sluggish compared to others nearby.

I don't think so. It was just retired but it is still found on several different places so it will take a while for the price to actually start going up.

Agreed. I picked up two on two seperate days last week (for a total of four) at TRU with their "$20 off a Lego purchase of $100 or more" in-store promotion. So it knocked the per unit price down to $55 each before tax. Not too sure about this one. Four is enough for me.

Was at my local lego store yesterday and these were listed on sale at about $10 off. In my experience, anytime the lego store has something on sale, it's done. Glad I picked up 10 a while back for $35 each. Might be able to make some coin by Christmas. I also saw the Star Wars Old Republic battle pack and the Droideka battle pack on sale as well.

It's been marked as 'Retired' for a while no?  Maybe it's different in Canada...

575 in stock on Amazon UK although the price is significantly higher than before

For some reason, I thought it was common knowledge that this one was heading out. Or maybe I was just hoping. Anyways, I'd try to grab as many as possible. Already listed as a retired product on LEGO Shop at Home USA. Even at MSRP, it will be a steal when it starts to appreciate, along with quite a few LoTR and Hobbit sets.

Weathertop has been retired for a couple months now, so any price you can get it at is probably worth doing.  Most Walmarts that have it in stock are selling it for $40.

Been retired almost 9 months here in the US, either canada still sells them or more than likely they just came across some in a warehouse or someone returned them.

Yup, it went from the UK in June -ish. Apart from Amazon UK who seems to have purchased the entire country's stock and is selling it at different prices every hour.

This set has been on pretty much all store shelves here in Toronto since it first came out until only the past month or so when I started seeing it on clearance - I got my 9 sets at Target for half off. But this is the first time I've seen it for sale at an actual lego store.

They had a few for 10% off at the last Lego store I visited. Finally!

Great price for Canadians too. It's essentially 50% off our retail price. I believe it's $95.19 after tax here, and from Amazon UK at this price is $45. I bought 2 and was charged an import fee of $19.33, but that still ends up being cheaper.
