Pseudoty Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Not looking $1K worthy although we are getting some Andor error figs. 25/40 1 Quote
Dr Jedi Posted July 26 Posted July 26 I'll say that I'm glad to see the Imperial Dignitary. I had wondered if they would lean into the ROTJ figures with this set, or if they might hold them back for a UCS DS2 in another 5-10 years. 2 Quote

Word on the street is that it is going to be a diorama and to build the complete sphere you would need to buy TWO 😂 Kind of like the Architecture Pyramid set. Quote

I've seen those rumors this afternoon, and I think I'm still digesting the info (if it proves to be accurate). My first thought is that the Enterprise-D just shot up to #1 on my most anticipated sets of the year. Beyond that, I imagine it's still possible that the set will look good - the rumored size is 37 x 31 x 10 inches, which gives a lot of space with which to work. If this is truly half a sphere (setting aside the obvious inconsistency of 37 x 31 being the cross section of a sphere), then I think I'd much rather have a hinged skeleton and exterior plating to swing closed onto the half the sphere with the diorama. I don't think I can imagine buying a 2nd set at $1k to complete the sphere. If there had been more unique, well done or highly desired minifigs that you could part out, it would've been a lot easier to justify a second set. I'm going to withhold judgment until we see photos of the set, but at first blush, this has certainly been disappointing news. 1 Quote

As seen in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga video game, except the stormtrooper in this set based on the image looks closer to one in the background from the LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation short film on Disney+ three years ago. I would hazard a guess this new Death Star will include a small hot tub stuck in a corner as a nod to the LEGO Star Wars games. 1 Quote

BrickStanley74 Posted yesterday at 02:15 AM Posted yesterday at 02:15 AM So it's $1000 for half a Death Star?? 1 Quote

TheOrcKing Posted yesterday at 12:20 PM Posted yesterday at 12:20 PM I did not hold any expectations aside from being large. It is neat for a possibly wall mounted collection of dioramas ....that we kind of already have from over the years individually. This is the sort of build I might expect to see at a Brickfair as a habitat showcasing all the well-known scenes of the Death Star within the homage of one. I wonder what the backside looks like. Also, where is the hot tub at? Haha. At least it is different from the previous iterations ....while simultaneously doing the same thing. I am certainly not the market for this (and still a cheap ass penny pinching son of a brick). It's okay, just not for me. 4 Quote
Bricklectic Posted yesterday at 04:42 PM Posted yesterday at 04:42 PM I actually love it! But too expensive Quote
Pseudoty Posted yesterday at 05:21 PM Author Posted yesterday at 05:21 PM (edited) I watched a comparison review to the MILF with cost adjustment based on inflation from 2017 they come out to about the same price and they are almost the same size 31” in diameter. I am not sure if all of the smaller SW diorama sets did so well that they think this is what we want, but I think the smaller set affordability makes them available to a wider audience. This does make sense for display ability vs a huge sphere and maybe it will be the first in a series of UCS diorama sets. At $1K it’s definitely not a buy for me but $800 and I’m in for one. ETA: When I heard it was going to be a diorama I had hoped it would be like the Batman Shadow Box that when closed looks like the DS2 set and then you open it to see what we have now. Pseudoty Posted yesterday at 05:58 PM Author Posted yesterday at 05:58 PM M&R kinda getting me hyped up for it now 🤪 1 Quote
mlc3423 Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago As many on this forum and other places have discussed over the years at some point Lego was gonna release a $1K set.........I'm guessing they figured this might as well be the one Quote
Mathew Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) I don’t see the value. They took the $80 dioramas and cramped them down in size to fit. It’s 9000 pieces but a majority appear to go towards the frame. There’s a lot of dead space that could’ve been used better. The elevator shafts for example. Not a lot to get excited about IMO. Kind of a joke really. Edited 19 hours ago by Mathew 1 Quote

He pointed out some really good and insightful parts of the build. That is why I said he is actually getting me hyped for the set. I wasn’t being facetious. Darth_Raichu Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Looks like I am over this whole LEGO is better than gold thing. When I see a collection of dioramas marked as UCS, all I can say is "meh" 5 Quote

Jim Jones 😂 I've spent months, blocking channels that post negative, outrage videos on anything lego. I finally got my feed to where i'm getting more pleasant and more reasonable channels... if I click on that video from M&R, then months worth of work will be unraveled, and youtube will start feeding me the outrage channels again. It's like playing duck hunt blocking the negative nancy channels, in order to give a middle finger to the algorithm. Anyway, I don't know the dimensions on this set, but I do like the design, and it looks heavily detailed. There's supposedly 9000 pieces, so that's a good couple weeks worth of building, and i'm sure it will be interesting to build. The only mini that peaks my interest is the Imperial Dignitary, and to a lesser extent Galen Erso. Everything else is pretty much also in the older sets. This is a set you use your lego rewards points on, and either buy out of the gates and get the special GWP that will probably go for a good amount on ebay....or wait a year until the sales hit. Regardless, I will buy this one. I bought the original one (still mintly boxed), and the second version, but the second version grew quite nicely in value, that I sold it off. I want to get this new version, and build it. I do hope one day, they make a Death Star like the previous version, but it's covered in plates, and looks like an entire Death Star. That's what I was hoping for originally, with this version, but ohh well. This new one is still a nicely designed set. 2 Quote
