I'm new and just started my research into a possible Lego hobby.   My interest is architectural MOC, so what I'm looking at seems complicated and overpowering.   Needing design software and apparently a giant brick inventory doesn't sound like a recipe for a simple hobby.   Fortunately -- there's a Lego Store in a mall near me.   I think I see an early Monday morning Lego Store reconnoitering and info-gathering trip coming up tomorrow...
