Looking for feedback from members who currently play &/or collect pieces from the X-Wing Miniature cards/dice game.  My son asked me about it and I trust the discussions between members on this site to inform

a) how much fun/playability the game offers

b) whether the pieces might have any potential resale value if/when my son loses interest at a later date.

Read amazon reviews and the wiki; I see they are releasing a 2nd series and the breadth of offerings from the manufacturer over many years leads me to believe this is a popular game. Any advice appreciated.

I actually just got into this game just over a month ago. It is a lot of fun and has a lot of playability. The community is overall really good (look up the xwingTMG subreddit as well as gold squadron videos on youtube)

the Xwing game entered version 2 last year and in essence “relaunched” with streamlined rules and more long term balance focus. The miniatures wont hold much value since they are fairly easy to get and there is no “random” nature to what you get. You look into what you want to fly. You buy it and you’re done. So far I play Empire, First order, republic, rebels and scum

I played it for a couple years and my bother used to play in Tournaments with it weekly.  We loved the game. Very engaging, very fun and it takes strategy to another level trying to navigate and out-play your opponent.  I have many of the 1st round ships and look to get my son into this game soon.

As far as reselling, you can always sell you collection on Ebay.  I would not plan on making a profit on these though. I can only remember 1 time when a ship could sell for more than MSRP and please note I don't follow every ship or prices on this anymore, bit the Falcon was once bought out every where and you could flip them for 2-3x their MSRP easily until production increased again.  This was probably 2-3 years ago.

But the game is very fun, expensive, but very fun. They only came out with a 2nd series because some of the ships they made were too big and they needed to revise the rules a little and also to make more money :)

Thanks to you both.  The expense of the pieces is what raised my resale questions...

If both my kids & I were to play would we want/need 3 starter "core" packs?

No, just buy 1 starter pack and then a bunch of other ships you like.  Seriously find someone selling their collection on Ebay to get the best bang for your buck and you can even use the older rules especillly if you don't get any of the super large ships.  The overall rules are similar I believe from one version to the next.

I've only played Armada and it's fun, but you need 4-6 players for real combat.  Love the ships, but they don't resell for much.

I never played the Armada type just the original X-Wing.  I believe my brother had around 20-30 total ships in the end.
