Welcome.  There are a lot of threads and blog articles for you to read for  you to make that decision.  There is a ton of info here.

If you are just starting them I recommend starting small. You will not make any money your first few years and in fact you will need to invest capital into your startup but after that you may start earning money. To start small try to get 100-200 a month set aside and buy some sets that looks like they are on there way out. There Is 2 main rules that I personally follow, don't put all your eggs in 1 basket and there will always be stuff on sale somewhere. 

Were you looking for a personal collection or a collection for resale. If you want to know what sets are the most fun to build, take a look at reviews. If you're looking for perceived long term value, there's a lot of threads here.
