Hello fellow Brickpickers,

I have just noticed that of Technic sets with any significance, 42039 Le Mans Race Car was the only one without dedicated topic (whereas the previous 42000 racer has 3!), so I figured I'd correct the injustice :)

Please feel free to share your opinions on the design and naturally, its investment potential.

There is currently a great deal going on it on Dutch Kruidvat website (only today) and I was wondering if it could ever be found for less than 70€ in Europe? I figure it's quite a decent price for its value.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Is it available in  supermarket and non specialist shops? If so, avoid at all costs as an investment because it will be around forever after EOL (42000 can still be found 1 year after EOL).

As a personal buy, it´s a cool set - big, imposing, lots of useful panels and the new gear parts. Just don´t expect much in the way of technical sophistication.

It can also be motorised with lights and lifting engine cover and MOC´d to steer and drive.

My opinion is that this is the most beautiful technic set I have seen so far. It is also the first technic set that I will buy for myself. I cannot wait for a great deal (less than 70 euro) on this one so I can buy and build it. I have seen it displayed in a legostore and it is marvelous.

For investment? I have to agree with Eric here. Keep an eye on exposure. If it is sold everywhere beware.

That it was on sale and discount in shops from almost day one has always been strange to me.

To make the most of it you need to buy 2 or an 42000/42025 as well in order to have enough white panels to fill in the gaps on the chassis put on a tail fin and make better doors! The power functions and full RC also add a lot to playability.

You guys are absolutely right naturally, but I only bit the bullet when I saw it for 69€99 at Kruidvat (Ciglione will know :P ). The thing is, I am a beginner part-outer as well (I have a feeling more profits could be made there in foreseeable future "insert bubble talk here"...) and this thing has an insane part-out value on BL!

Now I only regret not having taken more at this price point (no one was touching this one while other sets like Space Shuttle City thing, Friends and Deep See Exploration were flying out of stock...). But I have high hopes for the upcoming weekend, I think we will see a lot of good offers here in NL.

Btw Ciglione, I have seen it built in Nurnberg Lego store as well and it is quite nice (large, man :phew:)  . But frankly, I personally associate Technic much more with construction machines and I don't think this can come close to the likes of 42009 (especially with Jurgen's mods) and 42030.

The part out value will fall when the wheel arches are available in 1h16 sets......

€69,99 is a rather expensive buy-in for this set.

I bought it at V&D for €45,-

They were €100,- but buy one get the second free, and they had a coupon off €10,- per purchase so that's  €90,- for two. You can imagine i bought mor then 2 :derisive:

Yeah, coz purple is such a racing colour :P  It has terrific parts even besides wheel arches (only 8 of them) Eric, I think it will remain a strong part-outer even after 1h16...

Why? I wasn't a brickvestor when 42000 was around, just know that my cousin told me it was the model he regretted missing the most... Then a week ago I find a last box of it in a forgotten Intertoys for 99.99€! I have no interest in it, but that's one happy cousin :)

Was available for 50 euros for a nanosecond at amazon.it

That´s a sensible price for anyone who can have delivery there as the extra 10 euros to ship abroad ruins the deal).

I got my one for collection from amazon.it for £55 posted, happy with that compared to uk rrp

Ok, I get it, you got very seriously burned :D Eric, for 60€, this set is part-outer gold! Geld! Pela! Guita! Whatever :) I almost bought it today for 75€ but restrained myself. I'm still delusional that something I want more will be discounted on LEGO Shop at Home or Intertoys...

I´ll stick to Volvos at 115 euros and crawlers and 105 if I want to get into parting out! This one has a problem in that the new gears and panels are going to be used in more sets and the only other useful items are the low profile tyres - if the IP supercar uses them as well then forget it. Also, the green panels don´t go with the ones used in 42008 truck.

  • Author

Yeah noticed that just today! Local department store had one 42008 left. By all means next time you see a Volvo at 115€, shoot me a PM please! I got mine for 169€ and thought to have made a good deal :/

And for the IP car, anything less than Tumbler tires would be a disgrace for "the most expensive Technic set ever"...

  • Author

Huh, not following you there? Even the Drag Racer is rumored to have Tumbler tires?

I have been a reseller, collector since 2013. I have started building small sets recently, being drawn to the technic line. I started building the race car today, my largest build to date. I'm impressed, being a Honda auto tech by trade, when I realize I'm building [true to the real world] a working independent rear drive suspension. Can't wait to see the completed set. To be honest, I know the technics are hit and miss as investments but, this one is too cool.
