series 3 space villain vs VIP version

I know lego came out with a vip version of a couple of the minifigures. I am about to make a trade and the person who I am trading asked if the space villain is from the original series. Is there any difference between the two? I looked them up on bricklink and I don't see any difference. Anybody have both that they can compare for me?

    The VIP fig has a much lighter pearl gray "peg" leg. And though I have just the one of the VIP to compare, I would say the printing is of significantly higher quality on the original series figs compared to the VIP.

    Here is a pic of mine: I am pretty sure it is the original. In person the grey peg leg looks darker.
