Lego buying and selling in the UK (and EU)

Hi, I've really enjoyed reading this forum over the last month and appreciated the insight.

I've certainly got carried away at times in the early days of investing having read some of the advice in the forums. However, I occassionally notice a post that says something doesn't really apply to Europe, e.g the popularity of a certain line, or where is good for selling, or the time it takes for items to increase in value.

So as a lot of the advice is written with north america in mind, I thought it would be really useful to hear from those based in the UK and Europe.

- What are the main differences for our market to the US

- What sort of discout and ROI do you usually aim for?

- Where do you prefer to buy and sell trom?

- What delivery companies do you recommend for the mid to large sizes?

- Any good cheaper 2nd hand selling sites for used sets we want to make ourselves?

- Are there any yearly sales in our region to look out for?

- Aside from xmas are there peak times to sell in the UK?

- any good tips on saving in the UK by buying from the EU while the Euro is down?

- Any recommended toy shops for picking up older stock?

Sorry if this has all been covered elsewhere but i couldn't find a thread that focused on it.

Cheers

B

  • To catch the deals before they sell out, you can use the android app and set an alert on "lego". Your smartphone will alert you when a deal is posted. Save you from having to check regularly!

  • This might be of interest to someone. TRU £10 voucher for every £40 spend in store. Could be useful if your after some CMF or buy 4 ectos get one free etc. Havnt really had a chance to have a proper l

Happy days! might grab 2 more tumblers

Wonder whether the 20% off will apply to exclusives, would be breaking the Lego Omerta if they did

though the exclusives thing only applied in LEGO Shop at Home?

You can't get decent discounts on exclusives anywhere, orders from on high.

Guess i'll have a try and see if the minions in the shop don't know this........

Failing that, I guess a few more Ecto 1s and whatever else is good. There was still one Bennys Spaceship at €50 last week too.

Grab the Benny's Spaceship at €50 if the box isn't battered, that's a no brainer.

Last year it did, I bought a few Death stars and the 20% off applied, so I plan to top off my Pet shops and Ewok Villages.

Good to know, Pet Shop for €120 sounds good.

Actually that's a good shout on the Ecto's, I bought like 20 when Asda had them for 35, but with like 9 quid off I guess I will have to buy some more  :money:

if we buy Ectos from Smyths Ireland at €49.99(normal price) that's £36.76. 20% off would make them just over £29.40. a score if you ask me.

I hope there's no more sales this month, I'm gonna be broke.

Birds is apparently still available at Lego land Windsor.

Great if your a annual pass holder, as you can get in free and will get 10% off the set (£36)

You'd better star selling then

There will be another Argos 3-2 at some point, late Oct / Early Nov.  Asda will have good pre-Christmas discount around the same time. Lego double VIP sometime before Christmas with (hopefully) decent polys.  Black Friday.  Tesco 1000points for a £60 Lego spend.  Etc...

There are plenty of opportunities.  No need to go all in right now.

Totally agree, however 20% off on EV is a must for me, esp as it could be gone at some point in the near future.

So what's everyone's take on the best sets to pick up if all of Smyth's Lego sets are 20% off?

I'm trying to narrow it down from the following:

Simpsons House

Death Star

Sandcrawler

Ewok Village

Metalbeard's Sea Cow

Slave 1

Tumblr

Pet Shop

Millennium Falcon

Tie Fighter

Ecto-1

Raptor Escape

Wall-E

I will be buying Tumblers, Pet Shops & Sandcrawlers and a Technic Arocs to build

There are no EV or Sea Cows in stock in any Smyths near me for a while now

Will this 20% off be online as well do you think?

On a different note is anyone buying the winter shop? As the trick or treat went out of stock quickly and Lego emailed me sayings its not coming back.

is this in store only?

I believe it is in store only - it has been for the last few years

RE's , tumblers, and EV's for me.

Already hit my target on PS but if these are not available I could be in for a few more.

To early for tie ( even though I have 1 ) and I think also theres more time to get the slave ( even though I have 2 haha)

You know what I might finally buy at least 1 sea cow, just for the sake of it.

Just popped into my local Tesco for a few bits and looked in at the Simpson Minifigures in the Toy section. As they were 3 for £5 I tried to smoosh for the 2 that I needed for a complete set. I found the ones I wanted and as I came across a couple of Comic Book Guys I bought a small bundle.

When I paid at the till I could tell that the 3 for £5 hadn't been factored in so I went to the customer service desk they refunded me double the difference as their mistake meant they had over charged me so I ended up getting 6 minifigures for £5 which is even better than the 5 for £5 @ Sainsburys deal I posted up last week.
