The only good thing about this set for me is that my dozens of Snowtrooper Battle Packs just got more valuable.

Only if you sell them.

Investment wise, it doesn't seem to have that "MUST HAVE" "BANG" that other UCS sets have.  By itself, I don't think it's a very impressive display piece (although it could be if you sunk a couple of thousand extra bricks into it). It works much better as a "play" piece.....but it certainly is lesser than the other "play" UCS(style) sets (Sandcrawler,Ewok Village,Death Star).

And here i thought this type of set would be swimming with baddies...

Certainly not worthy of the UCS seal, but i will defiantly be purchasing this and the small add-on set to get a really good Hoth display going.

Not much of an assault, is it?

If this was a Chima set it would $149.99.  Nice mark up I guess!?  Maybe Lego is hurting from the decline in Oil Prices in some strange way.......

Just to nitpick, raw material is not the big cost factor in LEGO. The molds, logistics, marketing and product design eat up the money. And license fees, of course.

Some day thousands of this set will get buried in a big hole somewhere in the Nevada Desert - right between those E.T. game catridges from Atari on one side and thousands of Exo Suits on the other.

I don't own nor have I owned any previous Hoth set and this set is just bad.  Either it fails in that it doesn't have enough enemies to be considered an assault or it's just way overpriced for what you get.  If they don't come out with modular add-ons to add enemies later on (new AT-AT and speeders) I can't see this thing selling.

Temple of Airjitsu is nice but Lego had to add a free $60 set to it to motivate people to buy it instead of hoarding PS/PC last year.  No way I'm getting one of these for $250 - not unless it comes with a free 75105 or something.  Either that or they'll be doing a $125 B-Wing special next May 4th.

Strike 1/3, 2 more chances at bat this year.

I don't think they spent a lot on new molds and product design here.  Maybe the pricing is LEGO's attempt to cut out the middle man (ie - reseller).

Found this on SAH by chance among Sandcrawler reviews. Guy is complaining about lack of plaque.

We are so happy that you love the UCS Sandcrawler™. To answer your concerns about the plaques for the UCS'. In the past the plaques were ment for display models only, for example: 10240 Red Five X-Wing Starfighter™ and 10227 B-Wing Starfighter™ have a plaques because both sets don't have much of the play value as the Sandcrawler and 10188 Death Star™ have. However, in the future we at the LEGO® Group will be adding plaques to all of our UCS' as everything at LEGO should to be played with and we want our fans to have fun with their bricks and builds.

Thank you for your feedback and it will passed along to our awesome Star Wars™ design team.

Wonder what kind of plaque they will come up for Hoth if it is indeed a UCS. Could you imagine one for EV?

DS was the first bell, EV the second one (let's consider them UCS* though they could not, 'cos not in brickset list, as the TLG stated) and went on with SC and Slave I; since 2013 three (+ this Hoth = 4) SW UCS* playsets vs. two SW UCS display sets. On one hand I don't really care about this Hoth, won't invest in it but just see what to do with 75049 and 75054, on the other hand if really "everything at lego should to be played with" I'm happy for 10240, one of lasts SW UCS display sets, according to latest TLG SW creations.
As Ed said: "More important than the plaques is the fact that they said they want all new UCS to be played with." If it's really like that, nothing's strange, the TLG is just doing its own business using UCS* brand not to allowing investors make money with display sets, but doing itself much money redirecting UCS brand to play sets. If the wind is really changing, to survive the sails have to be changed.
I'm sorry for my english, I don't write it well, neither my russian, but I can assure you I speak italian as a mothertongue :)

Not intending to disturb any of the current jubilation, but I think I found a weak aspect of this set: it will totally discolor after a few years of UCS-typical display life.

(On second thought, maybe that's not a bad thing for patient investors who'll keep this set sealed...)

I am really surprised they tagged this with the UCS.  next this this EV looks more UCS.  that being said its a great play set, and good MOC starting point.  and of course it will only increase the value of 75054 (AT-AT).  I also think it will help give 75049 (Speeder) as sales bump.  but with a nearly identical speeder in this, and the UCS coming 75049 will be limited.

I took down my imperial shuttle because of the possibility of this :)

Okay - At Jeff's direction, I put the pics of the set back up.  For a refresh, here's the pic:

Still looks underwhelming...

This is the most horrible UCS set ever... its just a megapack of several standard sets, which we have seen before. Nothing exclusive on this set... I can accept UCS as a playset, but not in such way - just compare this sh*t with Ewok village - cannot. Its shame to make such set. Hoth scene has had many megapacks, battlepacks, etc, why to make such mega-super-pack for eur 250? If they make it as a standard set, i can accept it and wait for discounts - but this is UCS with no chance for big discounts... This is too bad set not just for collectors, but also for investors. I cannot imagine who will pay for this set eur 500 and more once it retired. Why the hell they didnt make UCS AT-AT or just big cave????

This is terrible. The designers usually do a good job. My kids liked ewok village another play set and took one look at this and moved on. My daughter said it looked like her brother built it (he is 5). At least I can save money and not buy this.
