Winter village collection starter piece

I was considering surprising the fam with one of the winter sets to build for holiday decoration.

Given the somewhat discouraging reviews of the Santa Workshop, which of the others would you recommend instead? It has to be reasonably obtainable though, so likely not long since retired sets.

Is winter village market a fun set to build and display?

Outside of the Workshop being on the small side (hence it's price), what complaints have there been about this set?  Most have been complaining about the Market more than anything.

My personal favorite is the Cottage.

Most reviews I have seen talk about the lack of details to the workshop itself, the underwhelming Christmas tree, not enough reindeer...

Cottage does look nice

I like the toy shop the best, mainly for it's big tree.

Got to suggest Santa`s Workshop, it`s easily the most iconic of theme thus far IMHO, though they are all good. A second would be the Cottage, and in some ways this set beats the workshop as well (size and detail). Either of those 2 are great.

If you don't want to pay over retail then your choices lie between the workshop and the market.

I own all of them and I have to say that wifey and I enjoyed building the cottage and its nice 'display-ness'.

The Bakery can still be had for around $100 but it is smaller too. I brinklinked all but the 2 that are available for about $200 but I had half the bricks already.
