As we all know - "sold out" does not mean anything, besides absence of immediate or 30 day horizon availability. GE was at "Sold Out" for quite a bit.

As I have mentioned before, it is my opinion that this set won't be around long.  It was designed and produced to appease the masses....

I'm not saying it is completely gone, but haven't we been down this road before?  "Sold Out" is the first step to EOL IMO.  It tells me it's a set that is on it last legs or was never meant to be produced in high numbers in the first place.  

 

Think about this set for a second...Who is the target audience?  Young girls?  Teenage girls?  Adult women?  Boys?  Men?  Probably young women if you put a gun to my head.  Is that a big market?  Not really.  It is a great little set that was made to make some people happy.  I really don't think LEGO will invest to many resources in keeping it around for 2 years.  Just a few rambling thoughts...

 

PS:  Why does the Exo Suit have a TOOS and the RI is Sold Out?

That is assuming that people TLC was trying to make happy were satisfied just by the fact that Lego produced something like that. If they were actually hoping to get some, they now will be very unhappy and pissed at 1) TLC (for producing that little); 2) reseller scum (well, for being scum).

P.S. I wonder if the idea contributor was able to buy a few for the family. Or TLC is kind enough to send a case to them?

I think the interviews with the writers said it's not Thor girl, and it's not a reboot.  Because at some point in the past, they've already set up that the current Thor angered Odin, so Odin changed it so that the power of Thor is in Mjolnir itself, and whomever possesses Mjolnir possesses the power of Thor.  Even though certain people, including women, have been deemed worthy and have held Mjolnir and thus the power of Thor, it has been only temporary.  People like Beta Ray Bill.  In the upcoming storyline, they said that Thor is going to be no longer worthy to hold Mjolnir, and the next person that will possess Mjolnir will be a woman, and she will be the new Thor, and there's no going back.

It all image.  "LEGO launches new set geared towards...blah..blah..blah..."  Any publicity is good publicity.  The Research Institute already did its job.  The Exo Suit is for making money.

that is true. Media will even point to "ah, look it is Sold Out, very popular, TLC nailed it!" (good publicity). If TLC flooded the market with it, the media would say "ouch, apparently poor seller, nobody actually wanted it" (bad publicity)

The funny thing is that a lot of people on this site didn't like the set when it was first announced. I heard lots of people saying this and that about the set and not positive things, now people are over the moon about it. Lol Hilarious. And female minifigures or males, this whole lego is sexist and doesn't produce enough female minifigs is just so dumb. Who cares if lego were to never produce a single female minifigure, the few people that have nothing better to do than complain about things that no one cares about, that's who. Just like the Jabbas palace fiasco...oh it looks like a mosque and the figs represent terrorist. Oh please, that's the last thing I think of when I look at jabbas palace. Lego doesn't produce enough female minifigs? Fine then, where are all the black minifigs and Asian minifigs, oh wait there were plenty Asian minifigs back in the day....they were all yellow! I don't hear people complaining about that. I want an ideas set, limited release, black and Asian minifigure set. God people are ridiculous now days!

There is a wheelchair set on the Ideas site that is literally just a wheelchair and a ramp, for everyone who's upset by the political correctness aspect of this.  Personally, I don't care who the minifigures in the set are, I just want the set itself to be cool.  Which is why I like the Research Institute, because the dino skeleton and the lab bench make it an interesting small set.  I would've bought it if it had female minifigs, male minifigs or a combination.

Exactly. Its a cool set no matter what figs are in it. I work in a lab, im a scientist, I want this set to make a moc lab and it is perfect. That's why I want it.

And No lego set I buy has to do with money. Im a collector first, builder second, and I think ive sold like 4 sets in the past 4 years. For the love of lego not money. I have a job, that's where ill make my money.

The amount of greed and ugliness that has been coming out of people over lego sets lately is very disturbing. I seriously am waiting for the day when I read in the paper or on the news that person x killed person y over a lego set. Because the way people are acting lately its only a matter of time.

That sounds like a betting opportunity - What's the over/under in days on a lego related fatality? There's more than one way to profit from this. Now back to flipping my sets.

I think that demonstrates why Lego approved the Research Institute.  The wheelchair and ramp may be for a good cause but it just isn't fun to play with or display.  The RI is much better in those regards and has a secondary bonus of the good PR generated by the female figs.  In other words, it's not just a ploy, it's a legitimate set.
