I thought the same about EV but having got bored of having nothing to build i bought one and its actually a great display set. Mine is set up with a Tydirium Shuttle and At-st and looks great. 

I also think it will do just fine post retirement unless you're talking about qf'ing

Just rung my local store and they had a place for me! Pretty chuffed with that, gonna be an early get up but I'm down with that. Was the 10% off Star Wars sets due to happen or was that a false rumour? 

I'm actually kind of surprised they are asking you guys with invites to buy $150 to get the dinky space slug set.  With this type of event for VIPs, you'd think they'd give it to you when you show up, for free.

I guess it's Lego/Disneys way of squeezing more money out of us all !! Bottom line is, they know we'll part with more cash for another S1 or SC that we don't really need, and come Saturday night you'll see copious amount of Slug Sets on eBay when buyers are trying to offset the $150 they spent !!

i'm glad they organize these events. It's a nice way to get to know some new people. All the bs on the gift set seems off point. But hey, who am i to be a critic of the critics. ...

please keep on flaming on the slug. I'm sure that makes it very happy.

I think giving 28 people per store a free item just because they were invited would lead to 1,000X more complaints and moaning from people that weren't invited. If you make it a premium, then at least your average consumer is looking at it as something that they probably wouldn't have gotten anyway. They can soothe themselves with the knowledge that even if they had been invited, $150 of Star Wars LEGO they don't have is starting to look like an obstacle that they wouldn't overcome. As far as the quality of a small freebie is concerned, It's basically what, a $15-$20 set that you're getting in addition to the polybag, the poster, the discount and VIP points? It's basically people saying, "What's up with this silver? Give me gold or platinum for free."

Are the posters for this sort of thing normally rolled, or folded?  Just wondering ahead of time if the Lego Force Awakens poster is something I'd want to frame.  If it were folded, that wouldn't look as nice in a frame.

Anything specific to you on the invite ? Take a screenshot and I'll force my way in there lol !

That's why I can't understand the complaints.  This is exactly like the two Comic Con sets.  Those sets retail at $40.  The piece count is the same.  About the only difference is minifig vs no minifig.  There's only 2000 of the Comic Con sets made, while there are 3500 of these (worldwide).
