Back in the summer of last year (2012) LEGO released its new and vastly improved version of one of the most iconic locations of the whole Star Wars universe: Jabba's Palace. The new version included several improved mini and maxi figs, and it was a very good recreation of the "actual" structure. What's more, LEGO apparently had planned to produce the compatible Rancor Pit for a while now, making this set even more unique. Nothing else was really out of the ordinary about this set. So after my Rancor article, I knew it was not going to be very long before I got the Jabba set out and completed this masterpiece of a Lego duo. I was actually a bit afraid it might be a little bit of a letdown after how much fun I had putting together the Rancor Pit. On the other hand, this set was a decent amount bigger and had a lot of cool little details as well as a ton of minifigures so I figured I would still be in for a good time. So I got the set out and dumped it out just as before. Fi

This entry is about the values for the two different UCS X-Wing Fighters and how the remake is affecting the values. There is a good article about the First Impressions of the set. Here is the link: http://www.brickpicker.com/forum/index.php/blog/5/entry-188-first-impressions-10240-ucs-x-wing-remake/ After one month of being on the market, both UCS sets have risen in value. This is very surpirsing. My personal thoughts were that the new UCS set would rise in value and that the old UCS set would

Bigger is always better. Some of you may agree or disagree with that statement to some extent, but there is no denying that when it comes to LEGO investing, the larger the set, the greatest its possibilities of becoming a great performer. In almost every aspect of life, people are usually very interested in figuring out what is the largest “anything”, as evidenced by the thousands and thousands of Top 10 or the like lists that have populated books and the internet over the course of history. Hello guys, My second article will discuss Architecture Sets! As a reminder, the first one summarized my experiences with buying second hand lego sets and bulk. Even though the conclusions were probably predictable to many veteran BrickPicker, for me jumping in the water of the secondary hand lego market was the best way to learn where the culprits are of this trade. For those who are not interested in discovering the tips, I can summarize by telling you I live by the NICHE rule now: Net Incomin

I wanted to make the pictures I took at SDCC 2013 regarding the LEGO stuff I experienced available to everyone here, but rather than individually import about 100 images, I'll just post the public Facebook album link. Feel free to use these pictures for anything you'd like as long as you give me credit for taking them. The SDCC model was made by the SANDLUG and displayed at the LEGO store in Fashion Valley Mall. BrickPicker Notes: Hello. I would like to introduce you to Owen, AKA Stomping Freak. He has quite a story to tell. Owen was a Sergeant in the Cheshire Regiment of the British Army. He has served tours all over the world. Jeff and I thought Owen's story is a must read for many LEGO fans...and even some non LEGO fans. Owen suffers from many physical and mental disorders, but has found relief and help through building and handling LEGO bricks. I hope you enjoy his blog. It is our wish that his stor

Many of us grew up on LEGO City sets.  With each passing year, LEGO seems to produce a new Fire or Police Station, yet many of these sets still appreciate very well in the LEGO secondary market.  Let's take a look at some City sets that might do well in 2014... First, and in all fairness, I have to tell you I'm Canadian - BUT - that when I head to the US I drive north.  Yes, I live in Windsor, Ontario,  Stephen Colbert's least favorite city on the map.  Being Canadian means that a few sets on t

Whether it is an exaggeration or not, in popular culture there has always been the perception of some sort of a friendly rivalry between the two main public service branches, the police and fire departments. I really have no idea about how big this rivalry, or if it even exists, in the real world, but I thought it would be fun to play with the idea in the context one the LEGO CITY theme, so later we will be examining which of the two has been the better performer over the years. Before we do th

Galaxy Squad, Lego's latest interpretation of their "evergreen" space theme appears to be a mix of the old Insectoids theme with a splash of Space Police III and a touch of Ninjago (you`ll see about that later). The similarity to the Insectoid theme of the 1990s is what first drew me to the sets, as it is always nice to see a fresh take on a classic theme. A look at the sets of Galaxy Squads first line individually and as a whole will lend some insight into the theme. Are the set`s on a cosmic c

Tommorow, I will be headed off to the beautiful land of Asia with my family (visiting some relatives). It will be my first time headed to Asia, and I thought I could take advantage of the trip to give Brickpickers an inside look at one of TLG's emerging markets. As some of you may or may not know, Lego said in a recent press release that it is planning to build a factory in Jiaxing, China, to support the Asian market, which saw sales in recent years grow by around 50% annually. The factory will

Every day, I read the forums and marvel at people that order 20, 30, and even 50 of a Lego set. I marvel because I am a hobbyist investor. Reselling isn't my day job, and it doesn't fund my 401K, or even my family vacation. I enjoy building Lego, so investing to me is a way to help fund my building hobby. My infatuation with Brickpicker has now encroached on my Lego building hobby (much to the detriment of my "Robo-Chicken" MOCs), yet my cash outlay is relatively minor compared to mega-sellers.

OK, admit it. Whenever you hear the term "SpongeBob", in your head, you are humming the theme song of the cartoon show. You aren't alone! SpongeBob Squarepants, the TV show first aired on Nickelodeon on May 1st, 1999. It is the network's longest running show ever. The first SpongeBob LEGO sets were released in 2006, starting with the 3827 Adventures in Bikini Bottom, 3826 Build-a-Bob, and the 3825 Krusty Krab sets. In total, the theme has 14 sets in 7 years. You might wonder, how does such a m

I just thought it would fun to keep anyone that is interested in this updated. I will buy the wood this weekend and the train track should be here soon. I will update this blog with text and pics as progress is made. Any ideas and criticism is more than welcome. I hope some of you find this interesting an

With the recent disappointment of Pirates of the Caribbean and Price of Persia LEGO themes, are we looking at another flop theme when seeing the Lone Ranger? Not to say that the POTC sets weren't well designed and put together, but the overall popularity of the fourth movie didn't have the same appeal as say the first movie. The Lone Ranger is out in theaters and with that we have seen the LEGO Lone Ranger sets out on the shelves. I personally have put together three of these sets and I am very

Welcome to LEGO LOTR wave 1, re-evaluation of investing potential, of last, currently non-retired sets. I will be re-quoting myself for the new members! now lets lurk over these remaining unretired sets: 9470-1: Shelob Attacks -30.87% The set is still dropping in value and is not yet retired. My old words still stand. 25% below US retail is the price to chase... If you can get it on that entry price there is no fear of losing money for now. It will be to be held for longer than 2 years a

There has been a lot of talk in the forums about the Lord of The Rings LEGO theme over the past few months, most of it enthusiastic and positive, but also with some doubters and skeptics. My intent with writing this article is to get a little deeper into the future prospects of this line of sets in the secondary market, and for that I will be making use of another theme that has been recently retired to get a more accurate prediction about what should we expect with the LOTR, and that is Harry P

Before I was an investor, or even a collector, I was... A TRADER. I think that I started out back in 2006 with a friend who was years older than me and a large collection of Lego. I got a few figs off of him for some pieces (he was being generous) and was hooked from there. Through the years, I have expanded my minfigure collection through trading and buying, and now about 2/3 of my minifigures are pure profits from trading. (I don't want to argue out this whole profit thing now, so you can find

Modular buildings. Considered by some investors as the gold standard of LEGO investing along with the UCS line of Star Wars, have been around since 2007, when LEGO decided to release the first one of the line, the coveted 10182 Cafe Corner. The story of how this line of sets became a reality is a very interesting one, and very different to what usually happens when LEGO decides to produce a new theme. Let’s go back a few years and see how this really popular line was conceived. Most of you prob

When it comes to LEGO investing, the investor usually has to deal with several different questions that make things more complicated; box condition, shipping and taxes are just some of those factors. However, the most important choice they usually have to make is about what specific sets are going to be better performers than the rest in either the short or long run, depending on their objectives. Even more, most investors are not really satisfied by following the herd and investing in only thos

Lego enthusiasts come in all shapes and sizes, and over the years TLC has been great at finding and catering to non-traditional toy enthusiasts. For gearheads, mechanics, and Mr. Fix-Its, the Technic theme is manna from heaven. Consisting of gears, pistons, shocks, struts, hydraulics, motors, and remote controls, Technic models move, squeeze, light, and pull in a variety of ways to showcase hundreds of mechanical functions. Technic was introduced back in 1977, and has become a staple of TLC's pr
